They added a new chess piece “the skeleton”. I was bummed out because I didn’t know how it moved and now I was bad at the new chess.

The skeleton sits in the middle (d4 determines which of the four center squares) and it doesn’t move at all. The other pieces have to avoid it in their movements because landing on it is death for the piece.

Also once every turn, each player rolls a d12, if it lands on 1, the piece they just played dies.

The skeleton represents malnutrition or plague or the deadly misfortunes that hinder all armies.
