like im lucky enough that sw is not my main source of income but for atleast half of the girls working that ive known it is, and they all meet the same roadblocks of having records due to sw that prevent them from getting regular jobs, scrutiny from “non judgement” employers, banks banning them entirely from being able to bank with them, little to no education to get out or have other ppl relying on them that makes it so the quick money is the only way to raise their kids pay rent keep up with bills etc etc…..if u actually care about the whore u will make it so her existence is not illegal or worthy of banishment from public daytime life u would help her find other avenues and if she wants to stay u would make it so she can defend her self legally if she faces discrimination and withheld wages for her work….but yall dgaf about that….u just hate the whore thats it 😭 u r not feminist for holding the same view of swers as the average cishet man

Two things can be true at once.

Children deserve to be seen as autonomous human persons who deserve rights, and us treating them as lesser to defend some fantasy of "childlike innocence" is a bad thing.

But at the same time it is also a bad thing that this presumption of childlike innocence does stop in the moment in which a child has dark skin. The way dark-skinned, and especially Black children get adultified, and criminalized is bad, and has often lead to their deaths.

trying to put a finger on it but the insinuation that lestat is deeply bothered by claudia lying about him threatening her with rape (which I already find to be a v distasteful plotline) and the show making a comparitive layering of the scenes of assault they experience doesn’t particularly sit right with me because it homogenises the state of Being Raped and ignores the material conditions which facilitate it. the choice also a) fails to account for how claudia’s sexual abuse is directly facilitated by his own failures as a father which drive her away from her home b) ignores the nature of the incestuous environment he brokers in their household, the disregard he has for maintaining parental boundaries, and his active violations of those boundaries when he chooses to begin her vampiric and sexual instruction side by side at lovers’ lane - later going on to further demolish those boundaries by offering to have sex with her and assessing her body in a sexual light. I’m not impressed!

I agree. I understand that Lestat would be angry at the depiction of him threatening to rape Claudia especially if he himself was raped. But this completely pulls the focus away from Claudia's experience and towards Lestat's feelings. The thing that should matter to him and that I hope (but doubt) the show will focus on is that Claudia still wrote their exchange down in a diary she didn't think anyone would read or use to write a book; she thought she was being threatened with rape, whatever Lestat meant or thinks happened. So much of IwtV is about the futility of trying to get at an objective truth when working with memory alone and this highlights why: does it really matter that Lestat didn't mean to threaten her with rape if he created an enviorment and acted in such a way towards her that she thought he was? "Disproving" her perspective won't undo the harm his actions caused it will only make Lestat seem a bit nicer, which really shouldn't be the focus.

As for the editing towards the end of Ep03, I also think it was a bit pointless and hollow – what exactly does it tell us that we didn't know alrwady? I have one question though:

When did that happen? I was high the one and only time I watched season 1 in full so I'm probably genuinely just forgetting something.

I think the most charitable interpretation of this is that people connect to characters that are like them, and that the experiences of Blackness is so alien to them that the White characters are the only ones that White people connect with. Combine that with the fact that Tumblr is so White as a platform, and you get this issue.

It’s still bad and racist, but it is understandable. People should still do better though. (I’m not trying to justify, I’m trying to come up with an explanation)
