Are any other systems secretive about who fills what system roles? Like, it feels personal for us, especially who our primary host is. It feels like they’re trying to find out who the ‘real person’ is and who are the side alters 🙃🙄

I suppose it might also vary on system size, the various purpose of the alters and so on. I know some systems also have many fragments, maybe they are thinking some may be fragments? Our own system is actually shrinking some now that we are almost physically 30 and years of therapy have begun to help but each system is going to be at different stages of healing... that’s just how it is.

I feel like I am only ever here when we are at our worst, when the most damaged, volatile, broken parts of our system have been out and about and I have to come out to pick of the pieces and try to return things to homeostasis. It doesn’t feel good. I’d like to be here during good times too. 

I don’t think it’s always been like this? I think there were peaceful times when I was able to just be here and enjoy our life. I keep trying to get back to that, or forgetting that it’s not stable like that right now. 

The kitchen cupboards are full of ingredients for recipes that I want to try. I keep buying them, thinking that I will have the time and energy to cook the way I used to. But I don’t. When I am here I’m just cleaning up messes, literally and figuratively. 

I’m so tired. I don’t even know where to begin cleaning up all these messes. I’m cleaning the literal messes instead.

Hmm... I’m not sure if there is anything I can say to make it better. The right words are hard sometimes. We have been in this kind of situation ourselves many times, countless times, in what feels like a never ending cycle.

But we HAVE improved, and your system will too. Talk to those you are comfortable with irl. If you can afford to go to therapy, see if it might help. If you are already in therapy, maybe show them this post, or read/explain it to them. These are at least things that have helped us stabilize. Hopefully with time and patience, your others will be better about sharing their thoughts and feelings, thus giving you time to help them before a new mess is create. Best wishes and luck!

Our disability may not be physical but it is real and it is something that we’ve been told repeatedly will impact us for the rest of our lives. Luckily we live in a well populated area that provides many different types of assistance. We do have a difficult time accepting help admittedly but we are trying to get better with that. Much love!

I had a talk with an old friend who was able to observe me when I was switching. After our conversation, I have realized that the system that he was describing was completely different from my system now. Is it possible for a set of alters to disappear? The difference is that I was in a very dark place back then but my situation isn't as bad as now.

since you had 2 questions (I’m sorry if you’re a different person, i am going off assumptions here) i will try to answer them both. If your mind is throwing up strong barriers perhaps put on some relaxing music and see if you can figure out why. often times our host throws up barriers because she is very stressed out and the more stress she’s experiencing the stronger the barrier. it might be because something triggering happened and it’s just an automatic response. usually it’s best to just let the barriers go away on their own though. as for the second question, yes it is entirely possible and having systems change dramatically like that is pretty normal especially when the trauma is occurring. your brain created alters as it needed to adapt and it only makes sense that they either remerged or went dormant once you were in a better situation. if it’s something that worries you see if perhaps they are still around but just dormant. if they aren’t it that’s ok too! like i said it’s normal to have more alters as a child or teen when the trauma is occurring but have them remerge as we grow older. hope that helps! :)

Psych2Go I am disappointed in you. While it is true there are some truly dangerous individuals out there, it seems like this video is lacking in a lot of ways. I know plenty of people who might be labeled as psychopath just from this list but they are individuals who need help. This is something that will only cast suspicion on individuals who might seem dangerous but may not actually be. Please do better facts checking next time. You’ve done so on the past I see no reason why you can’t do so now.

we’ve been told similar things unfortunately. at one point in time our friend let slip to his mom that we had DID and being the unfortunately very religious person she is claimed that we were demons possessing a body! we were pretty upset when he told us (and we got after him for saying something without asking permission and he hasn’t leaked a word since) but after a while we realized with dread that DID = demon possession is a pretty popular belief. it’s wrong and hurtful, but it is important to rise above and just ignore. arguing is pointless and just tires you out - but remember you’re not alone! you have your headmates and other systems like us who will back you up every step of the way :)
