I wish you people would understand that “silly wolp :3” stuff has no place in conservation and if your rebuttal to somebody villainizing a wolf for killing animals or livestock is “wolves don’t kill livestock.” Or “wolves are good guys look how cute and friendly this wolfDOG in a video is look” you are actually actively perpetuating wolf villainization. If we judge the wolf, or any wild animal, but especially something that kills other animals off of human morals, we have no choice but to conclude that the wolf is a villain. Wolves DO kill livestock. Wolves kill each other. Wolves kill wild animals. Wolves aren’t good guys. They aren’t bad guys either. We have to judge the wolf based on its ecological role and its necessity to a healthy environment as well as inherent traits about the animal like their social intelligence, endurance, persistence, etc. we cannot fight fire with cutesy sort of nicer fire. It’s still fire. When you judge an animal that is not a human on human morality, it will ALWAYS lead to demonizing.

This whole fucking issue would end so much faster if people would stop responding to people judging the morality of wolves with more morality judgement on the positive side instead of negative. This will never stop until people start popping back with actual evidence and explain that wolves are necessary because they belong in the wild and the ecosystem evolved in tandem with them for millions of years and that killing and slaughtering animals because they are doing what they evolved to do is cruel.

“Wolves don’t kill livestock. Wolves are good and sweet and friendly.” Can be refuted with real actual evidence in a couple of seconds. You’re literally validating these people by playing their game.

genuinely sometimes it feels like the only gender some trfs can conceptualise anyone being is female. Like, you hear it when they talk about forcefemming cis men and speculating on them being eggs. You hear it when they call afab non-binary folks theyfabs, or otherwise make constant reference to their agab. You hear it when they talk about trans men with the same gendered insults we’ve been hearing our whole lives, when they call us cunts and bitches and whiny and pooners. You hear it when they talk about non-binary identities being stepping stones to binary ones (in the case of amab nb folk, stepping stones to transfemininity, and in the case of afab nb folk, stepping stones to detransitioning). You hear it when they talk about afab trans folks having the “privilege” of detransitioning “any time we want”, like being female is just a truth we’re putting off. You hear it when they’re perfectly happy to misgender transphobic cis men, but don’t do the same to transphobic cis women. You hear it when a character being headcanoned as transfem is treated as gospel, and a character being headcanoned as transmasc is torn to shreds. You hear it when a cis man wearing feminine clothes is treated like an egg, and when a trans man wearing feminine clothes is accused of actually being cis. You hear it when they joke about no one actually wanting to be a man, about how no one really actually likes being one, and how everyone would be happier as a woman.

I could spend a few paragraphs highlighting how this thinking is incredibly binaristic and how it views dysphoria as a solid basis for morality, rather than a personal feeling of discomfort, or I could just say that it’s more than ok to be masculine, to be a man, to be anything other than feminine or a woman. It’s more than ok to be non-binary, xenine, atrinary, something inhuman, something genderfucky, something not quite any of these things. I’d even encourage it. And if you want to be feminine, to be a woman, a girl, or anything close, I’d encourage that too.

I'm not gonna articulate this well, but there's this phenomenon I keep seeing on the left that I'll call "bean soup rhetoric," wherein someone fails to understand that they are not the target audience for a particular message, or just can't conceptualize why a speaker would craft their message differently to resonate with a target audience that doesn't already completely agree with them.

"The 'God Made Trans People' billboard is stupid! God didn't make me! I'm an atheist!" Okay. The billboard sits along a major highway in Kansas. We can deduce that the target audience is not you—it's the centrist evangelical Christians driving along that road who could probably be persuaded to become allies as long as we choose our words carefully and don't make them feel attacked for not already knowing everything about trans rights issues. Another one I see a lot is, "We shouldn't be talking about how right-wing legislation catches [privileged in-group] in the crossfire when [marginalized out-group] suffers far more!" I know. I agree with you. Which is why you and I are not the intended audience of this argument!

The entire point of rhetoric is to win over someone who doesn't already fully agree with you. In this case, let's say that someone is Jennifer, the moderate center-right mom in your neighborhood who doesn't really know or care about transgender issues but would be absolutely horrified by the idea of her teenage daughter having to submit to an invasive inspection of her body just to be allowed to play soccer. Tell her, "Banning trans students from sports will inevitably subject all student athletes to invasive gender-policing," or "Legal restrictions on gender-affirming care will make it harder for you to access the hormone replacement therapy you take to treat menopause symptoms," and she is more likely to question her existing beliefs and listen to the rest of what you have to say than if you lead with leftist talking points that she already has a calcified opinion about or which she thinks do not personally affect her.

Tailoring the argument to the things she already cares about does not mean we're forgetting that she has more privilege than most—entirely the opposite, in fact. A privileged ally can be extremely valuable. Jennifer votes in every election. And so do all the other ladies at her book club, and church, and in the PTA, and those folks listen to Jennifer. There's a reason both parties were courting suburban women so hard in the last election cycle! If we can find common ground with her on this, if we can get her calling her representatives and talking to her friends and phone-banking and door-knocking and making a stink, that's how the needle starts to move. If I can convince her to take her support away from the candidates who are actively restricting my rights and throw it toward those who want to restore and expand those rights...then I'm sorry, but Jennifer is a more valuable ally to me than the people who agree that the legal boundaries of gender ought to be abolished altogether but refuse to actually do anything except complain online about how both sides are equally bad because the right is trying to force everyone to drink the cyanide kool-aid while the left keeps serving bean soup and they don't like bean soup

I was at the trans march in SF last night when 1 person tagging the side of the building with spray paint turned into 6 violent arrests, at least 100 cops pulling up, creating crush hazards with their cruiser cars in the 10,000 person march, screaming at people and physically assaulting and hurting them. cops were picking up other trans people just to slam them back into the concrete multiple times to hurt them. They were chasing people who had done nothing at all.

The news is only reporting about the tagger and the 6 arrests. Nothing else. Every report from a mainstream outlet has been completely sanitized of anything else.

this was a peaceful march and they didn’t care.

children were present. people were doing art and music performances and wearing fun costumes. They didn’t care.

The event had all the permits and the road closures far in advance. They didn’t care.

And there was a lane dedicated to folks that have disabilities and marched slower than the rest of the pack. they abused them too for not “getting out of the way “ fast enough

I don’t want to get on a soapbox, but cops don’t belong at any pride.

The cops at pride are not there to help.
