i'm so fucking tired of international media reporting on the philippine election with the undertone of "poor uncivilized savage uneducated little brown asian country is so so sooooo stupid for electing a dictator's son" as if there aren't thousands on the streets protesting it, as if there isn't electoral fraud, as if there aren't people staying at voting precincts for over 24 hours just to be denied their right to vote, as if this isn't a product of decades of US-backed imperialism and as if foreign powers don't have a hand in this decades-long project of historical revisionism. if you aren't reporting about the philippine election with these contexts in mind then don't report at all because fuck you we do not need your pity nor your "help"
exactly this. it's what i was going for when i mentioned how foreign powers have their hands dirty in meddling with our elections. before cambridge analytica and facebook fucked over the US 2016 elections they fucked with ours here in the same year. and now facebook, youtube, and tiktok are willing accomplices to a massive disinformation and historical revisionist campaign because it makes them a quick buck.

btw. the youth ARENT overreacting. this isn't something you can rely on wishful thinking, this is six fucking years. six years of our lives that are in hell right now. you can't just “oh well, he won :(” and this isn't us being too political. this is our lives we're fighting for here, our future. 36 years ago we were destroyed and we picked up the pieces from what we had left. the youth grew up with knowledge of the fear and horror the name "marcos" brought, knowing full well that martial law was no lie, it was real and they revolted against it in whatever way a people could.
36 years later, we put the late dictator's son, a fraud, a liar, a tax evader, back in office. we give him the legacy his father desired. we made our own monsters because 30 million people chose this fate. and god, they weren't lying when they said it's so fucking hard not to hate being a filipino. it's so fucking hard not to despise your country, knowing the absolute fuckery they let themselves become.
I am too frazzled right now to check for more—will continue to do so once I have calmed down—but here:

Let every news outlet existing talk about the Marcoses, Marcos Sr’s Martial Law, Marcos Jr's disinformation campaign, and everything else in between.
Let them talk about Leni Robredo and her work as a lawyer representing marginalized individuals and as the Vice President of the country, about Kiko Pangilinan and his advocacy in improving the agricultural sector of the country, about Chel Diokno and how he and his father Ka Pepe Diokno have made contributions in human rights and pro-Filipino economic legislation over the years, about Risa Hontiveros and how she has constantly been advocating for Filipinos' quality of life and even authored the Mental Health Act, the Safe Spaces Act, and the Raising of the Age of Sexual Consent Act, about the other members of Robredo’s senatorial slate and other candidates who chose to run for a position in the government FOR THE PEOPLE.
Let them talk about how voting for Robredo and the others is not about bringing these people into power per se, but about the good governance they represent.
Let them talk about the Filipino people—not as the brainless sheep who deliberately chose to be ignorant, but as victims of a long-running and deeply-ingrained campaign that takes advantage of their ignorance and does everything to keep them ignorant.
Let the whole world know what is going on in the Philippines. We need them to watch us. We need them to listen to us.
We aren’t an isolated case. Like many others have already said, disinformation can happen to anyone, regardless of the country you are from. So read, watch, and listen.
Because your home can be next.

Hey, wanted to share this since doctors are saying it’s time to double mask (with a surgical and filtered cotton mask) or K95 (or the similar high grade medical masks) now. 😷
I’ve never used surgical masks during the past 2 years because they don’t fit tight on my face. But you can fix surgical masks if they don’t fit securely!!
I literally had to try it out at home to see and it makes such a huge difference on the fit.
