scrolling asoiaftwt (dumb) and thereâs really no other way to put it: some of yall are just addicted to discourse. literally addicted like if itâs too quiet round there u see them poking and prodding to get their fix. pls stop pretending this is about defending ur fave or ur community or the text and admit the conflict is something u actively enjoy bc truly thatâs the first step to recovery
i think this goes for most twt fandoms (and more lol) anyway bc of that siteâs design. so many features of it incentivises and exacerbates every single thing that contributes to and feeds constant conflict
âą qrt function
âą visible likes + rts + ratio
âą character limit that facilitates quick, knee-jerk exchanges that r hostile
the way these things and more compound creates such a putrid environment thats p unusable for conversations about anything really imo. dogpiling, stripping of context and misrepresentation, misinfo & agenda wars, power imbalance, public performance over dialogue, shaming as entertainment etc. i almost think that there is no way out of it over there
qrt function legitimately feels like a humiliation ritual tool. that shit can be the root of so much evil to me lmao
twt qrt function đ
A few days ago someone on twt posted a thoughtful meta post about, iirc, Frankenstein 2025, commenting "wait they are really cooking on tumblr" and I had to hold back from commenting well, no shit the site that allows long form posts is better suited to nuanced and well thought out takes than the one designed to break down every discussion into quips and clapbacks that will enrage you (it wasn't always like that; remember when twitter was treated like some sort of grassroots news agency?). Not like Tumblr is perfect, al lot of the annoying things that make up twitter discourse today had their test run #onhere about a decade ago. But it's true that the infrastructure of twitter literally speedruns the degradation of discourse into an overly aggressive circlejerk
This as quite literally to a T what my grad school dissertation was on, specifically the design of tumblr versus twitter! My research concentration has been on digital geography within platform studies and how the shape and design of a platform informs the way communities are built and the way we interact because the way we receive information tends to be just as important than the information itself.
TL;DR Twitter is structured in a way that isnât conducive to conversation but conducive to âdunkingâ rather than conversation because âdunkingâ actually drives up engagement more than having a serious conversation. People arenât incentivized to seriously participate on topics they arenât knowledgeable about, but rather encouraged to provide âcommentaryâ via versus tumblrâs design being very discourse (the academic term) basedâŠ
Like an important difference is that tumblr has âlinear discourseâ in its design versus Twitter is ânonlinearâ which encourages people to âdunkâ and make snap decisions or responsesâŠfor example the concept of a quote retweet versus a reblog chain. Twitter allows someone to have commentary on something after theyâve read the OPâs statement, and the reader has to manually click to view OPâs whole chain, or click to read the whole thread. Most people donât do that, and so the conversation is generally inflated by conversation happening around the subject rather than engaging with the subject. Itâs comparatively labor-intensive to engage beyond a like or a QRT.
On tumblr a reblog chain allows for linear discussion (you read OPâs original statement, then keep scrolling to read how someone else responded) which allows for comprehensible conversation about the topic itself.
And of course all of this plays into the word count, algorithmic structure, bluecheck system (which is a whole other can of worms with the concept of monetized posting which just increases incentive for intentionally reactive conversation) etc.
Anyways. All this is to say Twitter is quite literally designed in a way that makes it nearly impossible to have comprehensive discussions. Youâre supposed to like a quote retweet and be done, not talk substantially.
The answer to "How did these Ancient People do this????" is basically always
1. A lot of dudes. Just a ton of fucking people from beginning to end of the process.
2. Ancient people weren't stupid, they just figured shit out the same way we do: fuck around until you find out.
3. We're gonna plan this out and it's gonna take ten fucking years, and you will cope.
4. Sticks and string are surprisingly versatile and can be used for a variety of purposes, like moving stuff and making sure things are even and go in the spot you wanted to put them in!
5. I want to make this easier and more efficient to move. If I put this on the round thing and push, it will move. If I put this in water, it will move. If I get some animals and rope and have a whole bunch of them drag it, it will move. All of these things are a better option than one guy trying to pick the whole fucking thing up.

"The king said to do it"
History does not record the stupid megaprojects that failed
History absolutely does record the stupid megaprojects that failed. Here are just a few of them:
Fidenae Stadium Disaster of 27AD. A huge gladitorial stadium, built fast and cheap, collapsed and killed 20,000 people, as well as injuring many more out of the total audience of 50,000.
The Sagrada Familia was started in 1882. It is still not finished.
Mingun Pahtodawgyi was started in 1790 but a prophecy said the king who commissioned it would die when it was finished, so he stopped building it.
The Pyramid of Neferefre was never finished because Neferefre died early and his successor didn't bother.
Alai Minar was supposed to be twice the diameter and twice the height of Qutb Minar. Didn't get past the first storey, abandoned in 1316.
Bara Kaman, abandoned in 1672.
The Basilica of San Petronio was started in 1390. The main facade was never finished. In 1514, they hired a guy to construct the dome, but the pope ordered the "megalomaniac dream" halted.
Arguably every empire that has ever fallen counts as a stupid megaproject that failed.

UNPOPULAR OPINION: A lot of "mental health issues" disappear when bills are paid, rent is secure, and the fridge is full. Peace is expensive. And pretending money doesn't affect mental health is privilege.
Time to feed unprofessional managers what theyâve been dishing out for far too long.
Couple things here, for when you do this to people:Â
1. if you get the âanswer my callâ text, NEVER ANSWER THE CALL.Â
They are calling you because they want to have the conversation verbally, and be able to lie later about what they said or didnât say. Force them to continue via text or email- force them to continue the conversation in writing or not at all.Â
2. âLack of 2 weeks notice is unprofessional!â or the other version, âNot providing notice is illegal!â
No it isnât. Neither is true.Â
And in the US, all states except Montana are âat willâ employment (though you may hear an employer refer to it as âright to workâ to make it sound better, itâs the same thing). Sure, at-will employment means they can fire you without cause, BUT! It also means that you are not legally required to give a reason for quitting, or to give notice of any kind.Â
Is it polite to give notice when you can? Sure. Do bosses expect it? Absolutely. But that does not make you legally required to provide it.Â
3. The only thing I would change in the workerâs interaction here was their response when initially asked to come in.Â
Employee: âHey Mark. Sorry Iâm unable to cover the shift tonight because Iâm studying for my exam tomorrow.âÂ
Donât give a reason for your lack of availability. It may be tempting to. You may feel rude if you donât.Â
DONâT DO IT.
You do not owe your boss any information about what you do off the clock, and any reason you give will only ever be used against you.Â
Boss: âHey I need you to cover Jasperâs shift tonight.â
Employee: âSorry, Iâm not available.â
And leave it at that.Â
Do not elaborate.Â
Do not offer additional information.Â
When you boss asks you to elaborate, because they will, be polite but firm. âWith respect, thatâs personal. Iâm sorry, but Iâm unavailable to cover this shift/work late/come in early/etc.â
Be a broken record- youâre unavailable. Thatâs the only information they need to know, and itâs the only information they have a LEGAL RIGHT to know.Â
Please stop giving your bosses information they donât need to know and donât get to have, because theyâre only going to try and use it to fuck you over later.Â

The recent hot VS cold polls have made me realise that a lot of people have no idea how to cool down.
As someone from a hot country that's regularly on fire, here's some tips:
WATER IS YOUR FRIEND! WATER! IS! YOUR! FRIEND! You can transfer SO much heat into this bad boy! You cannot cool down without water!
Wrists under the cold tap. Splash your face and the back of your neck. Fan yourself.
In some countries you can buy a little handeld fan with a water sprayer.
Damp tea towel around the neck. Stick an ice pack in there on hotter days.
Half fill a water bottle with water, stick in freezer. If you use a bottle with a straw, make sure it's lying on its side with the straw side up and out of the water. When frozen top up the rest of the way with tap water and off you go.
Desperate to cool off? Wet T-shirt. Sit in front of a fan. This will nuke it, just don't get hypothermia and don't fall asleep like this.
Cold showers are also your friend in summer. Some people get psyched up by these. Personally, I sleep like a baby, so I'm good to have them before bed. Just keep in mind that it takes a bit of time for the cool to circulate, so your body will tell you that you're colder than you actually are. I find that when I have cold showers I need to step out of the spray when I think I'm cold... I'll just wait, and thirty seconds later the temperature has evened out and I actually need to step under again. Rinse and repeat until you maintain coolness even after stepping out for a bit.
If you can't do cold showers, turn the cold shower on anyway and just stick your arms under. When they're cold, lift your arms up above your head. The sensation of cool blood draining into your body is fucking weird and kinda unpleasant but less unpleasant than being hot.
Feet in a tub of water with ice. Blood naturally flows to your extremities when hot, so take advantage of this. If you don't have a tub of ice water, sticking a wet rag on your feet in front of the fan works too, it's the less powerful version of the wet T-shirt.
Drinks lots of water but make sure that water has electrolytes as well. Stay in the shade.
Keep air circulating. Fans don't actually cool rooms down, they just help transfer heat from your body to the moisture on your skin or the air via evaporative cooling.
Block north facing windows early in the morning so the sun doesn't get in. If you're in the northern hemisphere, this is opposite for you. Keep in mind that if your home is brick, the bricks will still heat up and slowly release heat into your home even after the sun goes down so this will only do so much.
If it's hotter inside than outside, close all your windows but two, making sure they're on opposite sides of the house/unit you're in. Point a fan out of one window, making sure that the doors between the rooms with the open windows are all open. This will help create a mini pressure system in your home, pulling cooler air in and pushing the hotter air out via the fan. Bonus points if you can get that fan high up where the hot air rises; even within a single room the top is much hotter than the air by the floor. Adjust the amount of open windows based on how many fans you have, but generally you want more windows with fans open than windows without fans to keep the pressure correct.
Obviously, use your common sense for these. Not everything WILL work for you, just use the stuff that does and adjust what needs to be adjusted. Some of these will be impossible to use in the workplace but others you can still use. Others are best used at home. If humidity impacts your ability to use any of these, get a dehumidifier if that's an option, or use more ice instead of evaporation.
Also keep in mind that the skinnier you are, the faster these will work. More fat means more insulation, means more heat, so you may need to be more patient with some of these or use them in combination.

#idk what this means or if i do this but ig i'll just hold my phone with my pinky stuck out from now on??Â
Good question, also no that wonât help.
shitty MS Paint 3 minutes doodle, nto entirely accurate: When you have your pinky hooked on the âbottomâ edge of the phone for the extra security so it doesnât slide out of your hand that easily, youâre wreaking damage on your hand, since the pinky is extremely askew from itâs resting position. You might have noticed that when you hold your phone like that for long time it begins to hurt, like when you are gripping a pen too tightly for example.
Green lines - the fingers are going their natural way. Red line - the pinky is way off, thatâs bad.

grabs you by the shoulders listen. listen to my words. i understand the urge to make fanfiction about yourself and to find a reality in which you're super awesome and great and everyone who hates you is wrong and dumb. i get it. you're better than that. you can love yourself without putting other people down, dehumanizing and generalizing, and retaliating against your oppressors.

I love that Leverage really goes out of itâs way to show us that just because you break the ârulesâ, it doesnât mean youâre breaking the rules. Rules and laws and society are all made up, at the end of the day, and all you really have is your own moral compass and sense of justice; is this just to you? Is it right? Should it be OK for companies to put people in insurmountable debt for the rest of their lives just because our medical care is so expensive in this modern day and age? No law or rule should change what you know in your heart is right and wrong, and I think thatâs the key thing that makes someone a good person in my eyes.
#there was a time when parker wouldnât have noticed, #not because she lacked the capacity to care, #but because she had narrowed herself, #to stay alive she cut off as many unnecessary things as possible, #watching her get them all back, #is one of the glories of this show (via @seananmcguire)
Leverage hands down has the best character development Iâve ever seen.
This scene hit me like a brick. My parents were hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt when I was 16 bc Iâd had cancer the year before (my treatment ended up being free but the initial ER bills and such were not).
But somewhere along the line they just⊠Disappeared. My mom says theyâre not being paid and theyâre not in collections. Itâs almost as if someone out there didâŠexactly what Parker did.
Ever since I saw this the first time, Iâve imagined it was Parker doing it. That she and Hardison had a free weekend and decided to take it out on a collections agency. That I was one of the lucky ones who got a little Leverage.
Okay but like yeah, that is actually a thing that happens, albeit not exactly like this. I donât remember the exact process but basically thereâs a booming industry to sell peoples debt - the business you owe money to sells it to someone else for a fraction of the money owed, wipes their hands of the whole affair, and now whoever bought your debt is riding your ass to get you to give the money to the. But itâs also entirely possible for people to just⊠buy up massive amounts of debt for pennies on the dollar, and then just. Forgive it. Because capitalism is a living nightmare, but the system is broken enough that itâs possible to exploit it for good sometimes.
Like, the main reason I know about this is because John Oliver did a piece on debt buying a few years ago, and ended it by revealing that heâd bought 15 million dollars worth of medical debt just so he could forgive all of it. Both to expose how broken the system was because some random fucker like him could buy millions of dollars in peoples debt with zero regulations, and also just to take the record for biggest TV giveaway in history.
A charity where you can do this, right here.
Be Parker! Be somebody elseâs Leverage!
Reblogging for the website.
yes! if you want to help with the medical debt crisis in the US and have some extra money please donate to RIP Medical Debt if you can. Theyâre completely legit and really do what they say - you really CAN relieve an incredible amount of debt for the needy with even a small donation. Iâm a monthly donor and receive a quarterly report of the debt theyâve abolished, and it truly is amazing. Based on those reports the average amount of debt abolished per person is actually I would say about $600 - which means, if youâre doing the math, that with a $6 donation to RIP Medical Debt, you can potentially pull one person out of a poverty spiral - maybe even one family. For six dollars. thatâs a pretty good deal, I think.
RIP Medical Debt is now called Undue Medical Debt!
Undue Medical Debt makes it easy for donors to make an impactful difference in the lives of those struggling with medical debt.
