Really, guys. For once, canāt you accept that maybe there are some mysteries that have no rational explanation?
18-year-old Keshia Thomas protects a fallen man, believed to be associated with the Ku Klux Klan from an angry mob of anti-clan protestors. Ann Arbor, Michigan USA. 1996. By Mark Brunner
Tumblrās gonna shit its pants with this one.
Whoa.
Even better, shortly after the incident, the manās son tracked her down and thanked her for saving his fatherās life.
Ya, the man was a Klansman and his views were wrong, but Keshia felt that she had shown someone violence is never the answer and maybe changed some minds.
āFor the most part, people who hurt⦠they come from hurt. It is a cycle. Letās say they had killed him or hurt him really bad. How does the son feel? Does he carry on the violence?ā
And the photographer still keeps this picture with her to this day. She uses it as inspiration to be a better person.
But she asks herself whether she could be as brave as Thomas. What if one of the hurtful people who had racially abused her girls was in danger, she wonders. āWould I save them, or would I stand there and say, āYou deserved it, you were a jerk.ā I just donāt know the answer to that, yet. Maybe that is why I am so struck by her.ā
See, THIS is a woman worth looking up to. SHE actually wanted change, not vengeance.
People on this website need to see her, hear her, and be more like her.

Reblogging for this sweet background.
Daryl DavisĀ is a Chicago blues musician, who uses his friendship with KKK to convince members to leave this organization. He successfully persuaded 25 former white supremacists that thereās another way. Davis has his own strategy, he explains and talks to people in more than friendly way, that allows to prevent usual misunderstanding.Ā
āThey may be yelling and screaming or pounding the table, but at least theyāre talking, theyāre not fighting.ā
DavisĀ choose to disarm them with polite conversation and smile. And this worked out.Ā
It doesnāt mean heās anti-Black, he just chose his own path. No need to spread fake facts. This is very important!
#StayWoke
He dismantled every KKK group in his entire state by merely befriending the individual members.
Look how effective his method was compared to screeching at people and calling them buzzwords.

DC Comics alphabet (in no particularly order): C is for; the Court of Owls.

In my dream, the world had suffered a terrible disaster. A black haze shut out the sun, and the darkness was alive with the moans and screams of wounded people. Suddenly, a small light glowed. A candle flickered into life, symbol of hope for millions. A single tiny candle, shining in the ugly dark. I laughed and blew it out.

He says that KKK members have many misconceptions about black people, which stem mostly from intense brainwashing in the home. When the Klansmen get to know him, he says, it becomes impossible for them to hold on to their prejudices. He explains:
This Klansman and I were riding around in my car and the topic of crime came up. He made the remark that all black people had a gene that makes us violent. I said āGary, what are you talking about?ā He said āWhoās doing all the shootings?ā I said ālet me tell you something, I am as black as anyone youāve ever seen and Iāve never done a drive by or a shooting.ā After a time I said āyou know, itās a fact that all white people have within them a gene that makes them serial killers. Name me three black serial killers.ā He could not do it. I said āyou have the gene. Itās just latent.ā He said āwell thatās stupidā I said āitās just as stupid as what you said to me.ā He was very quiet after that and I know it was sinking in.

Whatās weird is this dude has a proven track record of successfully fighting hatred and (oddly enough) his methods donāt include hatred

So many keyboard warriors and internet activists on here that itās beginning to become unbearable. Before you reblog a bunch of misinformation that cater to your feelings, try fact checking the source. Thereās nothing wrong with challenging a popular thought with an unpopular one; that is the basis of the scientific theory. Remember, truth is not measured in mass appeal. If that were the case, weād still think the earth is the center of the universe. So before you accept a misleading claim or statistic as truth, first ask yourself if itās true, and from there, investigate.
