What are your thoughts on Jk rowling showing public support for Marilyn Manson (a known rapist and abuser) and Johnny Depp (fuck that lying abusive pos). Idk i get the fact that shes like the only actual feminist public figure we have who is unafraid to challenge the cult , but she should not be immune to criticism.
Both of these are news to me so here's what I found!
I've only been able to find that her 'team' had meant to send roses to Marilyn (80s androgynous singer) but they had been sent to Marilyn Manson who posted about the flowers before confirming. I guess she either kept quiet so as to not offend him and/or was hoping it would go away, idk. But she's been very clear that I could find that she didn't mean to send the roses to Marilyn Manson and doesn't really know him, let alone hadn't wanted him to receive the roses.

That being said, the friendship with Johnny Depp is a lot more clear cut. They have been friends for at least a decade that I can find and, tho she fired him from the flop that was the Fantastic Beasts franchise, I get the impression they're probably still friends. Which does absolutely suck. She absolutely should catch flack (is that the expression) for that.

That being said, I am a firm believer in being able to agree on some points, disagree on others, and not blindly following someone on any one thing. I love her stances on the Trans Cult and protecting women from it. I didn't know this stuff about Depp until this very ask was sent in but I do hate that she likely still fraternizes with him after it's become obvious how much of a POS he is. And I think her questionable writing choices regarding diversity definitely can be taken as passive racism, if not direct racism, but I will give her the benefit of the doubt since those books are older than I am and people do change.
All in all, I still agree with her on her stances about the Trans Cult but I am by no means a 'stan' who will defend her, let alone blindly. I clearly didn't know everything there is to know about her 'tea' (and why should I) so it was definitely appreciated to find this out. Thanks for the ask!
the whole point of girls doing the not like other girls thing is basically them believing that the girls around them lack an interior life. they were raised on depictions of women as shallow caricatures and they recognize themselves to be actual people with thoughts and feelings, but instead of drawing the conclusion that these depictions of women are incorrect, they draw the conclusion that those depictions of women are correct and that must mean they're smarter and have more substance than the "average" woman. to exit the not like other girls phase means recognizing that all real life women have the same level of interiority as you do, and that depictions of women in the media as consistently empty headed and frivolous are misogynistic stereotypes not grounded in reality.
i say all this to say that to exit a not like other girls phase does not necessitate taking an interest in "traditionally feminine" ways of dress and makeup, nor does it mean never saying anything negative about the beauty industry
i think a lot of younger teenagers who are against sex-based sports leagues haven't really grasped the strength difference yet. it's not a comfortable thing to understand, and its very tempting to deny it as long as you can.
I will admit that Iāve never been a sporty person at all but something about running around with boys filled me with disgust as a little girl (well running in general honestly, I never understood the hype with tag either, that was boring too). I already saw them as a completely different species and itās really hard not to see them like that even today, !even when Iām actively trying not to! .
In 9th grade, I was required to do a sport and for some unknown freaking reason instead of choosing Yoga like all the other girls were, I decided to do Soccer and other team sports because I thought I was Different and Not Like Other Girls, even though I knew deep down inside Iāve always hated running and soccer???
Well that was absolute hell! I was one of 3 girls in a sweaty stinky gym of tall and heavy people that werenāt even boys anymore, there were full blown men that hadnāt gotten used to their strength yet. They lacked bodily awareness, and were really were very scary with most of them being a whole foot taller than me. Coupled with them running right at youā¦
Anyway, one day I got the soccer ball punted right into my face. It knocked my glasses as it slammed directly into my forehead. I had a feeling this was going to happen. And even though Iād started just running in the opposite direction of the ball it seemed like it was just magnetically attracted to flying at my face. Cause then I started remembering other incidents from middle school, one where a basketball bounced twice directly on my head. Everyone thought it was hilarious. In hindsight, the way it looked probably was very funny, but since then, Iāve internalized that sports are just one big humiliation ritual especially if you do them with men.
And my 12 year old brother refuses to play pickleball with me because Iām not an āexpertā like him (he also sucks, upon observation with my father) so maybe some men learn very early on not to give women a chance and not expect any potential out of them.
Iām sure there are women out there who can beat men in sports and good for them! But the average girl shouldnāt have her first community exposure to sport be post puberty with the opposite sex that is also post puberty and a way different age and developmental stage.
"my anecdotal evidence is more valid than your anecdotal evidence"
Hey so I literally never said my anecdotal evidence was more valid than anyone elseās anecdotal evidence :) I was just ranting and sharing a personal experience that was never meant to be an argument for or against anything :) and in my last paragraph I literally say that it doesnāt mean itās all like that :)
I saw coed sports at my school happening all the time and I always wished that I was as athletic and confident as the girls who could do them. What I personally wished for was the chance to have a space where I could practice sports that werenāt dominated by boys or required some athletic ability in the first place. As I said before, I didnāt like sports even as a young child so as a preteen moving onto older teen there were little to no sports teams or clubs for me that didnāt require some sort of tryouts. In general, I have also thought that the sporting community is often very cultish (see the FIFA fandom most recently, see how domestic abuse spikes after sports matches) so I doubted it was worth it to do even all that to fit in.
This isnāt even about trans women lmao. I donāt even think I have a current solid stance on the debate of whether or not they should be allowed to play for the sports terms of their identified gender. In fact, if the behavior I described above is mostly applicable to biological men and trans women seeking only to play sports are from predatory, then Iām all for it, and I would personally be fine with going and playing with a trans woman. (However, I cannot speak for women who play sports professionally and have bore greater witness to the strength differences because the play occurring in those spaces is competitive and not collegial). So I think my rant here is mainly about giving girls in school a sporty place free from biological (/cisgender) boys and teenage boys who are often not considerate of the fact that women and girls just want spaces that are separate from them.
Thank you for listening, because the rudeness in the tags initially made me not want to warrant this with a response, but then I realized it would be worth it to respond so that people from both sides can potentially see my opinion as I am new to tumblr.
So, last night at philosophy club, we finally got into the trans/gender ideology debate. On one hand, i was excited because for the first time i said what i needed to say in a semi-public venue; it felt good to get a lot of it off my chest and let people know where i stand. On the other, i was left incredibly disheartened by the fact that in a group of 5 women and 1 man, the only one who backed me up was the man. One of the women did have things to say about transitioning children that I appreciated, but for the most part, the other women were glad to throw their fellow females under the bus to uphold this ideology.
my sister is a case manager and has trans clients, so i can extend some respect there, that it's literally her job to get resources for these people. i tried to make it clear that i don't wish harm on trans people and i do believe they are marginalized as well and are deserving of legal and physical protections; it's bizarre to have people who KNOW ME, my own sister and friends, assuming that i think any GNC people should be thrown out into the cold with nothing. it just shows how deep this shit the brainwashing runs, that they can't separate me as a person from ideology. but why, i ask over and over again, WHY must this be at the expense of women's safety? why is it ALWAYS at the expense of women?
i don't even want to say "natal women" or "biological women" anymore because all that does is reinforce their claims. i'm also not going to use to the term 'trans women' anymore but will stick with 'trans identifying males.'
one of the girls there ended with "well for my part i just want to say that i'm personally comfortable welcoming all different types of people into the bubble fo womanhood" ok that's great for you, but what about women who have suffered at the hands of males? women with trauma? little girls who aren't ready to see a naked male body? it really illuminated to me how complicit women are in their own oppression and i'm feeling really fucking down about it today. the hatred for women just runs so deep, i feel like i can't even wrap my mind around it.
if you believe male-bodied people belong in women's spaces you're just a fucking freak. i'm so done. you don't care about women. you ARE comfortable with women being SA'd and raped if you think TIMs belong in female spaces. i'm so done... i'm more done than i've ever been.
"You ARE comfortable with women being SA'd and raped if you think TIMs belong in female spaces." - they think it'll never happen to THEM and that attitude infuriates me! It's the same shit as "well, we need prostitution so that men don't rape real women...".
If the bad stuff was relegated to only happen to women who wanted TIMs in their spaces then I'd walk away from this issue, but it's always the poorest and most vulnerable women who get it in the neck when privileged women decide to back the latest politically correct form of male worship.
Also trans people aren't marginalized. No marginalized group demands "protections" or "rights" that would harm women and homosexuals. This is very clearly a privileged group who is using misogyny and homophobia for their own gains. They don't need any more rights than they already have when "trans" isn't a coherent or consistent group.
Also? Pay attention to how often trans allies make their final response to be about "kindness", "welcoming" and "acceptance", instead of. I don't know, actual evidence, science or statistics. Because that actually reveals to you what this whole ideology is all about. It's men, and occasionally other women, taking advantage of women's kindness. Trans people know they can't prove their own claims beyond reasonable doubt so they always end up appealing to emotion, while perfectly understanding that that's what women are prone to listening to (more than men). That's why the conversation revolves around women's spaces, women's sports teams, women's prisons, women's medical facilities, women's scholarships and quotas for women at large. What can women provide for sad, disenfranchised men?
Women can be negotiated with, women can be forced to step away to give space even when it makes them uncomfortable or hurt, women can be gaslit into thinking that their stress, fear or anxiety is just bigotry in disguise. Women understand and extend their empathy to you if you give them a sob story about violence and discrimination, because they have personal experience about such things. Women don't have too much confidence about their own rights and own boundaries because they have been socialized to think they don't matter much anyway, so just push them a little and they will crumble.
And if there IS a woman who frowns at you, throws a question back, doesn't immediately move out of the way? Well isn't she the terf bitch that needs to be burned at stake, you say, and other women around her will quickly move aside just so they won't be targeted too.
It is not a coincidence that this is what the conversation will always boil down to. It's never really about trans men and how their claims affect men. It's never really about what's going on here biologically, or evolutionarily, or anything of the sort. It always, always, ends up here, where women are being told to shut up so that they are not inconveniencing trans people, so that they're not hurting trans people's feelings.
Like noticed what OP said one of the women ended up saying as a final thought? "I am personally comfortable welcoming all types of people into my bubble of womanhood". Emphasis on welcoming. As in: "womanhood is a community where I can invite people if I feel bad for them". She didn't say "I think there's plenty of scientific evidence that makes transitioned males count as actual females, so it just makes sense for me to count them in after." She didn't say "I also have a gender identity and know exactly how it feels and that's why I resonate with trans women because we really do have that identity in common." She just says "well I don't mind."
She's placing herself on a higher moral ground even if it means she will have to give up on basic feminist principles. She's quick to tell everyone that at least SHE is very kind and friendly, exactly like she's expected to be, even though there's no trans person in the room to judge her.
Our socialization as women and girls drives us into supporters of the movement even when it backfires on us, even when the whole movement was built on our backs and tries to consume all of us. Even if it means we will have to give away all our rights we fought so hard for.
Next time you should ask her why she is stopping with trans women. Why doesn't she open the "bubble" to ALL disenfranchised men? Why not open the doors to gay men, men of color, disabled men, male children? If this is genuinely about empathy and nothing else, why have women's spaces at all, why don't we just have a space for all the bullied people and then another space for all the bullies? Would that work? Would that fix all the problems? Why not?
Thank you so much for this reblog I had to read through this twice in a row because it is one of the most perfectly encapsulating comments I have ever seen on this issue. I sent it to my cousin and I think she officially peaked.
While memes like these are funny, they have some assumption that the sexism baked into it will be well received by everyone. Itās not just the generalization of body dysmorphia in different ways among the man and woman. Why canāt the āmeā be female? It is relatable to me as a woman as well. For Peteās sake, even Virginia Woolf and Sylvia Plath are depicted here, and they were highly influential female writers and thinkers who are role models for many women. But since most of the people in the post are men, Iāll take a guess and say that the target audience and the audience the post reached are mostly ānerdy loserā ānice guysā.

I love my 12 year old little brother so much but why does he have to act so male (trademark symbol) sometimes š
Hey waiter can I get less weird generalizations and more coherent arguments please
āThere is ZERO reason for [female-only] spaces to exist.ā Okay.
Can we please get rid of the idea that very single radfem is just enthusiastically a JKR supporter and just rushes to blindly support her everyimt she posts something. I won't lie I acknowledge her role in radfem ideas but like she isnt the terf God or some shit. She has bad options and approaches sometimes. Not all radfems are JKR supporters or even like her content. Can we please develop some nuance around her.
It is possible to acknowledge the incorrect conspiracy theories people spout about her while also acknowledging her own shortcomings.
I viscerally hate everything that those booktok heterocoomer romantasy ddlg rapeslop books stand for, but I can't help but feel just a tiny bit strangely protective of them as they are clearly one of the last genuinely female-dominated hobbies. Even the "girliest" hobbies like makeup, gossip journalism, knitting, gardening, cooking, yoga/pilates, and fashion all have tons of males who are put on a pedestal and worshipped within those communities just for being scrotes, but they don't seem to have infiltrated booktok yet. And true female spaces are fast becoming the most critically endangered habitat on this planet.
Maybe we just need smart radfems to write romantasy slop with juuuust enough based takes sprinkled in that it activates normie women like a sleeper cell and causes a mass peaking/4b event.
Some booktok smut is indeed a safe space for women to enjoy their sexuality but ādark romanceā as a subgenre is definitely harmful. Unfortunately you canāt eliminate the latter without eliminating the former.
i never understood the āwhy do you care about your partners genitalsā thing because how are YOU having sex š they gotta get involved at some point!
honestly, i think a large portion of TIMs are not having sex ā certainly not with real women, at least. iām sure they have many other sexual deviances, though.
TIMs are just mentally ill incels who seethe over the fact they can never infiltrate lesbianism (their ācotton ceilingā, so to speak, where ācottonā refers to not being able to get into a lesbianās underwear)
so, then they came up with the whole āgenital preferencesā bullshit, in order to try groom and bully lesbians, especially vulnerable, young and socially conscious lesbians, into being sexually exploited by them
A lot of that and some of the āasexual spectrumā too just seems to be rebranded purity culture.
āIām morally superior because I donāt engage in the sin of lust and donāt think about having sex all the timeā
i think a lot of younger teenagers who are against sex-based sports leagues haven't really grasped the strength difference yet. it's not a comfortable thing to understand, and its very tempting to deny it as long as you can.
