Callout Post: Silwë Mírdan/Silwë Illuvarion

This is absolutely unlike most of my content I have ever blogged on here, and bear with me.

I play this MMO called Lord of the Rings Online. It’s ancient and creaky and to me that’s part of its charm. And I got passed a very disturbing link concerning a user who has gone by both of the above names, even though I don’t play on the same world (if it matters, mine is Crickhollow and the link concerns user behavior on one called Laurelin).

Folx, we have a Missing Stair situation. The link, which I will share here despite its extremely upsetting nature (frfr, I cannot put enough trigger warnings on it), contains logs of the above named user on their alternate character, participating enthusiastically in SA, total noncon RP, using the porn trope of “Victim Starts to Enjoy It” (despite literal torture of the chara to where, yes I mean “trigger warning” rather than just “content warning” or “content note,” even if you do not have PTSD from this kind of thing yourself -- anybody would react very strongly to what is described). So who cares? Apparently the user’s former guild (which ironically are called “kinships” in this particular MMO, go fig) because the SA roleplay was done in a public place, right next to a quest giver, where they and their compatriots went on for four hours merrily traumatizing anyone who wanted to use that area of the game for its intended purpose.

The rest of the link is just boomer drama that is relevant only to the other boomers on this user’s world, but I did find it interesting that this Pick Me and their fellow Pick Me folx were apparently snarking some widow for talking about her husband’s chara???? Like???? If that isn’t a move that sentences them to step on Legos for the rest of their natural life idek. I think the most disturbing takeaway from what got posted about them is that they were allowed to continue on with life on their game world for either three or four years (I honestly can’t tell) after this incident. Thanks, boomers? Like the company that publishes this MMO has a function to report problem behavior from a user. This is a fucking problem. (I am using boomer here to describe an attitude, not literally the parents of Generation X)

The above blogs are for me what definitively link this person to the character Isilimë in their public SA porn rp. I don’t care how they got their kink, who knows, maybe they themselves were SA’d which is a common excuse for this kind of material. But if that is the case this person, and I say this with the one grain of compassion I can scrape up, needs actual therapy, not public traumatizing of other users in a niche hobby.

I promised the person who gave me the link that I would anonymize them, and that promise extends to my fellow tumblrinas because your mental safety is important -- if you have further receipts, DM me and I will scramble your identity as best I can. Please practice good psychic hygiene. Not to be mean but sometimes you guys talk about having risky situations and super close almost caught stories only to post the haul and it’s something that easily could’ve been lifted somewhere else?? I just read an outrageous almost caught story involving LP only for it to be over a pack of Hubba Bubba gum and a Jojo Siwa bow. Guys, not only use your best skills but use your common sense too, sometimes a haul from a certain store isn’t worth it. If it can be lifted at a Claire’s or HT, go THERE instead of fucking with Kohł’s of all places.

NO NO NO NO NO. I have said this before and I am saying it again: ONLY, I repeat, ONLY try to create a verbal “disguise” if you can keep the new accent when you are stressed and upset. One of my jobs requires some acting and THAT accent, I have been practicing solidly since 2013, including in the off-season. But if you can do, let me pull one out of my ass at random, “has a slight Scottish burr but otherwise is very close to Received Pronunciation because this person went to a posh university, but reverts to broad Glaswegian when tired, drunk, stressed, angry,” that might actually work. Otherwise if you can do an accent when calm, but drop your loaded-with-goodies purse and go “Oh shit” in your normal voice, that’s going to be sus af.

Because the bored guy who’s sitting in the LP office watching six, nine, or more monitors is going to look for the visual of you shoving some shit in your purse, not listen for your sweet Mississippian drawl. They have to see you select the merchandise and conceal, and maintain unbroken visual surveillance on you (with certain dressing-room exceptions others have blogged about, like if they see you obviously going in with three items on hangers and coming out with one, and the other two aren’t on the dump rack or in the room you just had). Nobody back in the LP room gives a flying shit about how you talk. It’s the dumb shit you say when pressed that they’re hoping for. Also, other bloggers have discussed the idea of looking good for the store you go into, but not standing out from the pack. An accent that is unusual for your area may force you to also create a backstory for that “character” that you might forget later or contradict yourself on under pressure, especially if you’re hitting someplace with really chatty SAs like Lu/sh.

Hairdos and wigs yes, contours yes, fake freckles sure, all of that sounds fine. Not wearing the Ominous Black Hoodie of Doom is probably great. Everything else sounds great. Exceptions: Can you act, like could you pass an actual audition, and does your area literally get shoppers with a nice mélange of accents? Where I live you would just stick out like the proverbial sore thumb if you sounded North Carolinian or Canadian, eh. (Also the “eh” feature is a genuine thing but Canadians don’t do it nearly as often as the stereotype would suggest)

HUGE PSA

I was at W@!m@rt the other day, not lifting at all minding my own business. Well somehow my meat got weighed wrong and it set off the machine. (Self checkout) when the worker typed in her number IT SHOWED IN FULL CLEAR IMAGES MY BACK AND ME SCANNING THE ITEM ON THE SCREEN. so not only do they record your face but they record directly overhead. I should mention that I looked EVERYWHERE for that camera after that happened and I did not see it. Idk what sorcery W@!m@rt is involved in.

there isn’t rly a way to organise stuff in this community, most of tumblr’s tagging and organising equipment is rendered obsolete by the need to keep our community private :/ i suggest going to blogs that are currently active for new posts and searching up keywords on their blogs - most wont work bc many lifters disable search functions on their blogs but some might. you can also ask said lifters if they have any links for you, or what unique coded tags they use to keep track of their posts. e.g. mine for Walmart is #wm, and Michael’s is #mc. i also suggest going to blogs that have been around for a while - new blogs tend to reblog old hauls and info posts since those are widely circulated and have more notes, whereas older lifters will typically focus on the more recent stuff. you can check if someone is regularly active by clicking the little arrow icons at the bottom of their posts - it’ll show you the date and time or when it was posted/reblogged. you can also check if a post is new or not by going to the source blog and doing this. hope this helps!

For Wa!m@rt, honestly I try my best not to lift here, but it also depends on area. If you are in a high risk area there’s going to be a lot of cameras, and Walmart has added new ones that are small white cameras that blend in with the ceiling so they are hard to see. They have hidden LP that aren’t in w@lmar! Attire. So you have to be REALLY careful. Utilize your blind spots if possible and make sure there’s NO ONE around.

For michaels it again depends on the area. I’ve been to Michael’s that have no cameras at all and ones that have cameras in EVERY aisle. Again you NEED to scope out these places before you lift, know where the cameras are. Some michaels have even been putting “hidden” cameras on the aisle shelves. Be aware of those. Some have lp but from my understanding they are usually in Michael’s attire, but I hear they are moving to change that.

Always conceal away from people and in blind spots, no matter the store, and you should be fine. Never assume cameras aren’t monitored.

Very small haul (still have to photograph)

Ya girl, over the course of two weeks, has made a total of 18 ceramic disk magnets disappear from the store that sells them (they come in packages of 6). 

The packaging, which I’ve already gotten rid of, suggests using them to put on the back of things to turn them into fridge magnets. My idea was somewhat different, but I admit their idea is cute. WTL: the energy to do Sculpey again.

These are a bit on the big side: smaller than a US quarter, but too big to fit down an empty lipstick tube. 18 may well be overkill. My plan is to find a cute soft toy on a keychain and give it a “magnetic personality,” since I’m p good at handsewing. (Yes that was arguably a dad joke, I make no apologies for it though)

I still want to get a magnetic back brace, or maybe a highly visible ankle one (sadly, either one is perfectly applicable to the scoliosis AND plantar fasciitis I have going on, and ofc my happy ass took a job at a big box store with a concrete floor). If I could find a big tall ankle brace in something like “Fuck you all, I don’t care who knows I’m a gimp” pink, that would be ideal. (Do you also have bad feet? Wear something like this? Links pls?)

I still need to photograph them next to a ruler and/or a coin for scale. I’m getting there. Work has trashed my energy levels because part of what I do involves scanning the shelf labels of whatever we’re out of, including in the Outdoor Garden department, and I live in a part of the US that will be below freezing again this weekend. (Report from Outdoor Garden: We are just not selling a whole lot of pool chemicals or lawn stuff in January, how very odd)

However, morale is greatly improved since receiving a package from a wonderful Depop seller who included extras along with my sweatshirts and little stuffies -- a Beanie Boo penguin who is made of the sooooooftest fabric ever, and a similarly sized orange dragon that Mr. Better Half described as a “flying cow.” It’s a good thing Mr. Better Half is cute... because wtf. You don’t just insult a dragon like that, including one who is like one shade of lipstick away from resembling the one on the Welsh flag, damn.
