I did not become scared or distrustful of Muslims after 9/11, despite the fact my country, my state, was directly attacked. I felt no urge to join those who attacked Muslims, Muslim restaurants, and firebombed mosques here in America. Seeing Muslims in America wearing their traditional clothing like hijab or symbols of their homelands or items of worship does not make me upset or uncomfortable. I did not ask every Muslim I met if they condemn Al Qaeda or ISIS.

If you feel distrustful of Jews, that’s antisemitism. If you think it helps Palestinians to attack Jews, their restaurants, or synagogues here in America, you are antisemitic. If seeing a Jew wearing traditional clothing or items of worship such as the Star of David or a kippah or tallit makes you uncomfortable, you are antisemitic. If you feel like you need to ask every Jew if they condemn the actions of the Israeli government to make sure they’re a “good Jew”, you are antisemitic.

a funny thing about having a Problematic Blorbo is that you'll periodically come across a post along the lines of "um let's not forget that [Blorbo] is a bad person..." listing their various crimes, and if you have a modicum of intellectual honesty you find yourself nodding along and saying yeah it's true... but it's the greyness of their character that makes them so compelling... I’m so tired of the historical revisionism that acts like modern-day streams of Orthodox Judaism are somehow the most authentically historical streams of Jewish practice and that any liberalizing movements are either “invented” or “foreign.” It’s just patently untrue and is either ignorant or a malicious misreading of Jewish history and the evolution of halakha and its interpretation.
