I've noticed something about myself over the years.
Whenever I hear that an artist writes about depression, loss, loneliness, or emotional pain, I become cautious. Maybe even a little skeptical. Those subjects have become strangely fashionable. Sometimes they're treated like decoration. Sometimes they're exaggerated until they lose all resemblance to real life. After a while, everything begins to sound the same.
That's probably why Thierry Haliniak didn't win me over immediately.
Not because the music wasn't good.
Because I thought I already knew where it was going.
I was wrong.
There's a quiet difference in the way he approaches difficult emotions. He doesn't dramatize them. He doesn't invite sympathy. He doesn't seem interested in convincing anyone that his suffering is deeper than everyone else's.
He simply lets those feelings exist.
