this genuinely makes me so mad. some of you really don’t deserve fanfics. at all.
comment like this, besides the ai witch hunt, is one of the reasons why fanfic writers don’t want to post their fics anymore.
we write for free. whenever we can. whenever we have time. whenever we’re not too exhausted by life and responsibilities. we write for our own enjoyment. as a hobby. not a job. we update whenever we can. whenever we want. we do not owe anybody anything.
one of my favorite fics was updated after literal 13 years. but the point is that fanfic writers do not owe you anything. whether a fic was abandoned forever or updated after a decade or two is not something you as a stranger has a say in.
stop being entitled. stop treating fanfic writer as a content farm or a machine that produces contents for your enjoyment.
we’re not your employees. we’re not your slaves. we’re kind enough to share what we write for our own enjoyment with you for free. so either respect and appreciate us or be quiet.
this and also the only difference between fanfic writers and writers who sell their own original works as careers is that fanfics aren’t monetized. that’s all.
being a “professional” writer doesn’t mean your works are inherently better than fanfics. I’ve read so many fics that are more professionally written than some published books.
whether or not a piece of writing is monetized has nothing to do with its quality.

Kate likes to be under Yelena so she can feel the physical weight and presence of someone who hasn’t left her life yet. Yelena lays on Kate’s chest so that she can hear Kate’s heartbeat and reassure herself that the person she loves the most is alive, breathing and safe.

WIP Wednesday Last Sentence You Wrote
I could not let another week go by without participating, especially when I have been sitting down to write (very little, but I have!).
Make a new post with the last sentence you wrote on your current WIP (and tag some people, maybe)
And ever since then, every Thursday when the world wasn’t falling apart (and one rescheduled Friday because the world just so happened to be falling apart on that Thursday) they met up in the lobby of Stark Industries and Peter waited until Mr. Stark came to collect him.
I went back through some comments on an old story way back from 2021 and someone had left me story suggestions, so I thought I'd try to jumpstart my creativity by picking one and rolling with it. I don't know if this fic will ever see the light of day on ao3 but it sure was fun to write!
I also got a little work done on my Hosie fic! It still needs some major tweaks (and to be finished but we're not talking about that right now) and rewrites, I'm not entirely sure I like how it's coming out, but the gears are turning at least. Anyway, here it is.
The gym was silent, more silent than Hope ever thought a room filled with rowdy teenagers would have been capable of. It seemed like everyone was glued to their seats, eyes still fixed on the screen despite the video having ended.
Like I said, not thrilled with where it's at, the big reveal feels a little lacking in flair but progress is being made! I will keep sleeping and mulling it over while desperately trying not to compare my little fics to professionally written and edited books (trying and failing at the moment.) Please leave me some kind words in the comments if you can and feel so inclined to, it's been a tough week and it's only Wednesday.
Hope everyone's doing alright and have a wonderful rest of the week. Happy writing and Happy Pride Month! <3
A big thanks as always to @uncleasad for the tag :)
Sigh. At least I have this.
Kara who is so good at repressing her feelings that she doesn’t even notice that she is in love with Lena X Lena who is so good at repressing her feelings that she immediately knew she was in love with Kara and hid it
Kara Danvers was in love with her best friend. It was nothing new, not the product of some grand revelation. It was quieter than that. A slow realization, growing in the back of her mind. A warm glow, every time Lena smiled. A flurry of butterflies whenever she laughed. A deep, aching pain when she suffered. Little things, all adding up, until somewhere along the way Lena's happiness became more important than Kara's own.
Whether it was something as simple as romantic attraction, or more complex, Kara wasn't sure. Krypton didn't really differentiate the two like Earth did, and Kara still struggled sometimes to draw the line between friends and romance. But it was Lena that Kara thought of, when love songs came on over the radio, and it was Lena that Kara imagined spending the rest of her life with. Kisses, and sex, and dates, and anniversaries, all seemed irrelevant in comparison to those simple truths.
There wasn't any particular urgency in the feeling. At one time—after telling Lena her true identity—Kara had considered coming clean about her feelings as well. But before she'd been able to work up the courage, Lena had stolen Myriad, and things after that had devolved so thoroughly that Kara nearly gave up any hope of something between them. When she returned from the Phantom Zone, again, Kara had nearly confessed. But things between them had still felt so uncertain, and by the time they stabilized out there was Nxly to deal with.
Now, though, things had finally quieted down. Alex's wedding had come and gone. Lena had moved into Kara's apartment, while she was trapped in the Phantom Zone, and never bothered moving back out. They shared a bed most nights, falling asleep and waking up in each other's arms. Living together was easy; within days they'd fallen into a rhythm so easily in was like they'd been cohabitating for years.
Physical affection between them had come so naturally, it seemed like something long overdue. A kiss on the cheek or forehead; a hand at the other's waist as they slipped by; cuddling on the sofa, or the bed, after a long day. Alex's eyebrows had just about leapt off her face when Lena had seated herself in Kara's lap one game night, burying her face in Kara's neck as the game wound down. Kara had laughed off several questions that night, and even more comments in the days that followed.
"We're friends," Kara assured everyone who asked. She could never bring herself to add the "just". "Just friends" seemed insufficient for someone she was in love with. And as Kara watched Lena now—curled up on the sofa, reading a book—she found herself dwelling on that. She was in love with her best friend. She turned the though over in her mind, holding it gently, feeling the soft warmth radiating from it.
Lena looked up, dark hair falling away from her face. "What?" she asked with a soft laugh, noticing Kara's attention.
Kara just shook her head, smiling. "Nothing," she answered. "I just like looking at you."
Kara could hear the quiet flutter of Lena's heart at her words, and easily saw the pink blush staining her cheeks. "Dork," Lena retorted gently with a shake of her head and turned back to her book, still smiling broadly.
Kara crossed the distance between them, sitting down on the sofa beside Lena. Without a single word or moment of hesitation, Lena shifted so she was leaning against Kara's side. Reflexively, Kara raised an arm to welcome her in, resting it around Lena's shoulders as she settled. As she did, Lena let out a tiny little hum—a sigh of contentment—and Kara felt as though her heart might burst with affection.
Kara Danvers was in love with her best friend, and she was pretty sure her best friend was in love with her too. Neither of them had said as much, but that was okay. There was plenty of time to figure it out, and until then this was pretty nice too.
I'm sorry but I have one draft that I never finished but I laugh every time I see it
Writing Tip
Neither do i
Unreliable everyone
Not sure why it's a new trend among fic readers to assume if the fic has not been posted within the week it's inappropriate to comment on it, like the fic has to be hot out of the oven to give feedback for.
I got a comment on a fic that is less than a year old and it was mostly an apology for being a comment on an "old fic" and how late they were in commenting.
Just comment on the fic. Doesn't matter how old it is.
A writer's relationship with their own work goes: this is genius, this is garbage, this is genius, this is garbage, i should never have been born, okay actually this line is good
Hey! Just a reminder! AO3 does NOT have an app. This garbage was made by theives who steal fan artist’s work and sell it back to you.
“Oh, but it’s free!” There are ads. They are making money off of this. They are stealing from the creators you love and you are hurting those same creators if you use this app or any similar app.
Don’t use it. Report it at every opportunity.
I can do it. I can write a chapter. I am capable of putting sentences together. I know what a comma is. I am Aware of the Character.
