A while back I shared this post about that ancient greek textbook I had as a kid, a fine textbook by itself (the author actually put a lot of effort into explaining the reconstructed pronunciation complete with pitch accent, which is uncommon in France), but the author had an interview where he was saying insanely reactionary shit (I mean, shit that was already reactionary 60+ years ago) and then going "but I swear Iām progressive, look, a naked woman" (Aphrodite btw).
(and Iām not calling that drawing sexual, but that is the implication he was making in that interview)
And idk if it sounds weird to you but itās such a standard attitude in France. Reactionary celebrities writing seething editorials about their right to be perverts amount in the hundreds. Reactionary "sex-positivity" is not hard to come by, you just have to turn on any radio station or TV channel owned by far-right billionaires (which is a lot of channels).
Anyways where Iām getting at with this is that no amount of sex(ualization) is a proxy for progressivism.
There is a tendency in the asexual community to assume that if sex is made to be less of a taboo, everyone will automatically become more normal about us. That those are the same fight.
And I canāt stress this enough: they are NOT he same fight, not inherently. They are not opposed, just separate. You need to be vocal about ace issues explicitly because they wonāt solve themselves automatically if you solve "allo issues" first. This will literally never happen.
I know this because I have a tumblr account.
I also know this because I live in France. Supposedly a "much less puritanical" society, yet one with a special derogatory version of the word "virgin" that I canāt even translate into english.
