Jim O'Rourke & Jos Smolders - Albumin
Hach, is das schön!!!

Albumin
Albumin Functions:
Maintains plasma oncotic pressure (80%)
Transports drugs
Binds to Thyroid Hormone
Binds Fatty Acids, Ca2+ and bilirubin.
Albumin–related disorders
Hypoalbuminaemia
Caused by:
Altered Distribution – inflammation, overhydration.
Reduced Synthesis – malnutrition, malabsorption, liver disease, hereditary analbuminaemia.
Increased Breakdown – hyperthyroid, trauma/surgery, infection.
Increased Loss – kidney disease, skin burns, intestinal.
Acute phase response
Physiological response during: trauma/burns/infection/inflammation
Change in plasma proteins
Involves cytokines eg TNF
Increase in coagulation factors/fibrinolytic system - Haemodynamic changes
Body responds to infection and tissue damage through a complex inter-related series of cellular and humoral responses
Immune response and Inflammatory response
Decrease in albumin and transferrin due to increased vascular permeability mediated by prostaglandins
Clinical application
To detect infection
Guide to the severity of connective tissue disease activity
Diagnosis of inflammatory bowel disease
An indicator of cardiovascular risk
Hyperalbuminaemia
Typically due to abrupt dehydration
Also associated with high protein diets
Today is National Egg Day! Egg yolks will range in color—from pale yellow to deep orange to even a bright red—based on a hen’s diet. Because free-range hens often eat more pigmented, nutritious foods that range from insects to grasses, eggs from these chickens often have richer-colored yolks. On the other hand, conventional, grain-fed chickens will produce a lighter yellow yolks. The protein and fat counts will often remain the same regardless of yolk color, but there can be up to a 100-fold increase in micronutrient value of certain antioxidant carotenoids like lutein and beta-carotene in yolks fed a more nutrient-dense diet (like in pasture-raised hens), according to a 2010 study published in the Journal of the Science of Food and Agriculture. Rich, dark yolks will contain more of these potent antioxidants: compounds which mop up harmful toxins that promote inflammation and fat storage. Other studies have indicated that the same healthy diet that produces richer-colored yolks results in eggs with higher levels of heart-healthy omega-3s and less cholesterol. excerpt by oliviatarantino www.eatthis.com #eggs #breakfast #brokenegg #cholesterol #crackedegg #micronutrient #betacarotene #fitfam #nationaleggday #eggshell #africa #modernart #foodart #foodphotography #arttherapy #nutrition #nutritionmotivation #macros #protein #aminoacids #albumin #gym #fitness #workout #sportsperformance #athleticeatery #toronto #the6ix # foodie #chicken (at Toronto, Ontario)
