im very bored gang. does anyone have any disability-related ninjago headcanons that they want to talk about
Alright so I pretty much said all of this verbatim on a reblog of someone else's post, but I wanted to put it here on my blog too.
As I've mentioned before, I would *very* much like to see Peri canonically having a disability that causes him to use his wand/cane and not just have it be an accessory, and so I analyzed the episodes he's in that I've been able to see so far and came up with a few observations:
As much as I'd be unopposed to seeing it portrayed, leg issues don't really seem like a major deal to fairies in general given as Cosmo misplaced his for most of an episode and a pair of sticks were a good enough replacement for him to have fun at the arcade in human form (without even drawing human attention)
And Peri can apparently use his powers as listed above without his cane since he doesn't always immediately have it on his person (especially since Dev & Hazel took his cane in Lost in Fairy World and he didn't have any power or mobility problems)
But!
I *could* easily see him having some kind of magical fatigue issue or magical equivalent of hypotonia or balance disorder, since he's shown to be
very tired after a morning spent magically creating cupcakes (a probably small but very repetitive task that leaves him running low on energy)
When his stationary float is disrupted he remains seated instead of floating back up again
3. A minor contact/startle reflex is enough to disrupt his hover and cause him to immediately fall pretty hard if not very far
4. speaking of distance, he is shown to sometimes float a bit lower than his parents, which, while not consistent and likely just an animation choice, could tie in with the other points to support the diagnosis theory
However, pain may admittedly be more of a factor than the above images suggest,
he may not just be tired from shape shifting like I'd thought since right before that he was walking (albeit in horse form) and afterwards (low) cloud float is apparently easier and faster for him than just quickly trotting past his parents
He also didn't really seem to be having too much of a problem at all before he hit the ground
Where it goes to a definitely tired and possibly more pained look.
Maybe he didn't want to tell Dev that it was painful either out of pride or because he didn't want to potentially upset him and just went with "tired" because that was what he assumed. It'd be interesting to see if it happens again in a different form.
Personally I think it'd be cool to see both and have it be a chronic condition (directly magical or otherwise) that he already had before the series began (diagnosed or not).
If he's the first fairy kid born in a long time he probably would have been monitored very closely, but it may have taken a while for doctors to notice a problem since there was little reference for comparison and may have even caused some potentially serious problems that gave Comso & Wanda a bad scare, which could tie in pretty well with their developing a high amount of over protectiveness of him, and that in turn leading him to try and behave too far in the other direction (not seeking help when he really does need it, pushing himself way too hard and suffering the fallout which he then tries to hide, ect)
If he's undiagnosed but having the problems it could be interesting to see sort of an inversion of the "character must learn to accept their disability" storyline wherein he's more connecting certain events & symptoms and we get to see him adapting to accommodations and letting himself try different approaches moreso than to having new symptoms (though we as the audience may see these symptoms more or behaviors contextualized as symptoms where they weren't necessarily before).
Idk either way I just think it would be cool (and I've probably put away more analysis into this than will ever pay off lol)
also to everyone who draws him as a disabled mobility device user: ILY please draw more of it it feeds my soul
Dot from Pokemon Horizons is so disabled and chronically ill to me, genuinely. I love her very dearly for it. She's got POTS and chronic fatigue and autism w/ sensory issues and ARFID to me. Whenever she didn't want to eat or try foods bc they were too much, or when she's exhausted or collapsing from having to go up stairs or a hill, or she can't handle the cold, or when she just doesn't leave her room for days on end, she just feels very real and relatable and disabled to me. Disabled Dot is so dear to me, I wanna to draw her with mobility aids sometime.

Blue Lock Disability/Disorders Headcanons
(Not everyone will be mentioned! Just characters I think have a disability, so I'm sorry if a character you were looking for isn't here! Also, this is for FUN. I repeat, FUN, not canon)
Bachira; Schizophrenia, ADHD, high blood pressure
Ness; Co-dependency
Nagi; Narcolepsy, Autistic, possibly even ASPD but I think more Autism
Aryu; Narcissistic traits but NOT NPD, will develop varicose veins as he gets older
Chigiri; Fibromyalgia, Arthritis in the knees as he gets older, Prince complex
Kaiser; PTSD, God Complex that hides an Inferiority Complex, low blood sugar(he doesn't know it, but that's why he likes cola so much), Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD)
Kunigami; Ginger
Nikko; Anxiety, Agoraphobia,
Kurona; Tourettes/Verbal tics, I'm gonna say that due to his teeth eating isn't the easiest so I'll say mild malnutrition/he's used a feeding tube a few times
Shidou; Hypersexuality, Ocular Albinism
Noel; Albinism
i’m also gonna jump on the bandwagon and share my hunger games disability headcanons cuz WHY NOT!
Johanna: she has a seizure disorder and i stand by it. being tortured with electroshocks by the Capitol definitely disrupted the electrical activity in her brain + the trauma and stress of the games and everything else in her life. i can also see her as having BPD or schizoaffective disorder, isolation makes it worse so Finnick always tries to keep in touch with her.
Cashmere: Dyscalculia, Endometriosis and body dysmorphia. (lowkey projecting BUT) her body dysmorphia was definitely caused by the Capitol, and being from a career district she always felt she must look her best and change anything that was mildly imperfect(even if it was just all in her head 💔). Gloss tries his best to help and reassure her(he carries her to bed and gives her a heating pad when she’s on her period. and ofc he says she’s the prettiest ever and stuff. he’s the best brother). (i also headcanon she started developing AVPD after her games and trafficking, being close to anyone put that person at risk so she started distancing herself away from people out of anxiety and fear..it just became habit)
Finnick: He has ADHD and i’m not gonna elaborate further. i feel like he also gets phantom pain and sensations a lot(due to trauma) especially if it’s a AU where he survived the lizard mutts.
Enobaria: TMJ or some jaw pain disorder(also projecting sigh). not sure if this is really a disorder but i feel like she doesn’t see herself as fully human and much more animal, especially after the whole thing of biting a tributes throat out and having her teeth filed.
Annie: Autism, dissociative fugues, schizophrenia (do i really have to go in detail on this?) i feel like she always had Schizophrenia from a young age but her symptoms amplified after her games and that’s also when the dissociative fugues started happening.
and ofc every one of them has PTSD(duh)
happy disability pride month everyone. here are my completely subjective, aggressively self-indulgent merlin character sexuality + disability headcanons
merlin — bisexual. ADHD.
i have never seen a more ADHD-coded protagonist in my life. forgetful in the most inconvenient ways, constantly distracted, blurts things out before thinking, cannot stop fidgeting, hyperfocuses on magic to the point the rest of the world disappears, has absolutely no sense of self-preservation. he also definitely has chronic pain. this man gets thrown into walls every other episode, poisoned, chained up, knocked unconscious, hit with magical blasts, sleeps in forests, and somehow wakes up the next morning like "well. better go polish arthur's boots." no. his joints are held together by hope.
arthur — bisexual. dyslexic. chronic migraines.
look me in the eye and tell me this man enjoys reading. he learns through doing. he remembers conversations and demonstrations far better than written instructions. he'd absolutely mix letters around if he had to read long documents quickly and spent years hiding it because he's the crown prince.
also migraines. stress. bright sunlight. heavy armor. dehydration. endless council meetings with his father. i'm amazed he can see straight.
gwen — biromantic asexual. chronic fatigue syndrome.
she works constantly. she's emotionally available for literally everyone. she's sewing, cleaning, comforting, organizing, solving problems, worrying about morgana, worrying about arthur, worrying about everyone. she deserves twelve consecutive naps.
morgana — lesbian. PTSD. chronic pain. migraines. insomnia.
the nightmares started before the magic. then the magic made them worse. then everyone started gaslighting her. girl has probably not had a proper REM cycle since birth.
morgause — lesbian. hypermobile.
i cannot explain this one scientifically. she simply moves like someone whose joints do whatever they want. graceful until suddenly she folds herself into impossible positions. also i think she's one of those people who's always bruised and has no clue where half of them came from.
gwaine — pansexual. chronic shoulder pain.
this is the one i feel strongest about.
he grew up fighting. sleeping on tavern benches. carrying swords everywhere. getting into fights every three business days. dislocating a shoulder? that's just tuesday. i fully believe he injured one shoulder years ago, never let it heal properly, and now it aches whenever it rains or whenever he overuses it—which is every single day because he's gwaine.
everyone notices except him.
"gwaine, you can't even lift your arm."
"course i can."
tries.
"...that's embarrassing."
he also absolutely shrugs with one shoulder because the other one hurts too much.
lancelot — bisexual. PTSD/C-PTSD with dissociative episodes after his resurrection. before he died, the trauma came from a lifetime of being told he was worth less because of his birth, from violence, loss, and constantly expecting the worst. sometimes everyone else's voices sound impossibly far away. he keeps functioning because that's what lancelot does, but there are moments where he feels like part of him never truly returned from the Isle of the Blessed.
percival — bisexual. partial hearing loss. man has been around enough swords clashing directly beside his ears to permanently lose some hearing. people have to repeat themselves. he says "what?" a lot. he pretends he heard the first time. gwaine was the first to learn sign.
elyan — demiromantic. PTSD and a chronic shoulder injury. people forget that before he came back to Camelot, he spent years traveling alone, fighting to survive, and later became a knight in a kingdom that was almost constantly at war. he doesn't talk about the things he's seen unless someone else asks first, and even then he keeps it vague. loud arguments make him instinctively scan for exits, he sleeps lightly his right shoulder never healed properly after one of those fights. some mornings it's just stiff, other days the pain shoots all the way down his arm and makes gripping a sword difficult
leon — gay. chronic knee pain. camelot's oldest employee. that armor weighs a ridiculous amount. he's absolutely making old man noises every time he stands up.
gaius — aroace. arthritis. the man deserves heated blankets and tea.
freya — lesbian. epilepsy. i like the idea that the curse and her epilepsy are completely separate things. people constantly conflate them because they see a seizure and assume it's magic, which means she's spent her entire life being feared instead of cared for.
elective mutism. after years of abuse and isolation, there are days where speaking simply feels impossible. she communicates just fine through gestures, expressions, and writing, and merlin learns to understand her without ever pressuring her to talk.
her and percival get each other so well.
geoffrey of monmouth — aroace. poor eyesight. arthritis. this man is approximately eight hundred years old. he absolutely owns at least four pairs of reading glasses. he has chronic wrist pain from writing all day and absolutely despises when someone interrupts his cataloguing because he'll lose his place. his ideal day is complete silence.
balinor — bisexual. deaf in one ear and walks with a permanent limp. he automatically turns his good ear toward whoever's speaking, misses conversations if there's too much background noise, and sometimes asks people to repeat themselves without a hint of embarrassment. his limp is more noticeable after long journeys or in cold weather, though he has an uncanny ability to hide how much pain he's actually in
kilgarrah — agender. they/them. they're a dragon. human gender is probably as meaningful to them as the phases of the moon are to a fish. also if you're over a thousand years old your joints are absolutely making noises when you stand up. i don't make the rules.
