I feel like conversations around "gifted kids" and whether trauma related to that is an actual thing really ignore something really key and important to the argument.
Which is that taking a bunch of six- to ten-year-olds, officially labeling them as Different (good kind), and then putting them in separate classes from their peers, all of which are basically officially called Class for Kids Who Are Smarter Than The Rest, is literally a completely guaranteed way to create social division and resentment from other kids and teens.
And that is completely the fault of the people designing and running these programs, not the kids funneled into them.
