Am I the only one who thinks both Jack and Dave read as incredibly intersex?
Like I originally read Jack as a trans man but looking back at the games he honestly strikes me as intersex. First of all there’s the fact that he mentions having a hymen and is also able to pee standing up (yes I know both these moments are jokes but narrative support is narrative support). I’m not super well read up on different variations but I’m sure there’s gotta be one that allows for both of those things to be true.
I can’t remember if there’s anything specifically in the games that directly implies that Dave is intersex like with Jack, but he’s honestly sooooo intersex coded to me. Like the whole “no one wants to adopt an aubergine child” could be read as an allegory for rascism, and it could also be read as an allegory for intersexism. Especially since this was back in the fifties, if I’m remembering correctly. Him being treated as less than human for having cryptid-like traits also feels very intersex coded, especially if he was visibly intersex. And of course, there’s Henry. Henry repeatedly and violently experimented on and altered Dave’s body without his consent, which could so easily be an allegory for IGM and CIMI. I’ve not experienced IGM, but I have been medically abused, and it’s one of the reasons I relate to Dave sm.
I’ve kinda been thinking about what variations I would interpret them with. There’s direct evidence for Jack having ambiguous genitalia, and Dave could honestly be interpreted as having any mix of traits, so there’s a lot of room to mess with ideas. I’d probably interpret Dave as having one or multiple VCV variations because I like to project onto him, and probably a hormonal variation. Who knows! I’d love to see ppls headcanons for their variations. I’ve seen a headcannon for Jack with gynomastia, which I like, especially since so many ppl already draw him binding or with top surgery scars. I do still really like the transmasc Jack hc and can exist alongside him being intersex. I also headcanon Dave as bi/pangender sooooo
