thinking about Matsuda in the epilogue. The manga epilogue chapter, set a year after yellowbox, where Matsuda and Ide discuss Light and Kira, even though the world’s mostly gone back to pre-Kira. And it’s clear from Ide that Matsuda’s theories around what happened on the 28th come up a lot. Matsuda thinks that Near used the notebook on Mikami, and that he fed Mello the information he needed to manipulate him into kidnapping Takada and proving the notebook as fake. And it’s so, so painfully clear that Matsuda is desperately clinging onto anything that would make Light seem more sympathetic. That all the cards were stacked against him, that Near was secretly evil and self-serving too, that maybe Light didn’t even have a choice in what happened at Yellowbox. Because, as Ide said, Matsuda cared about Light. More than the others. He’s wracked by guilt over what happened- who wouldn’t be? Matsuda’s light-hearted, optimistic personality he even managed to keep during the whole Kira case is reduced to a facade, a mask of his old self. He’s depressed. He’s angry. He’s grasping at straws to justify the past five years of his life spent devoted to and admiring a serial killer who saw him as nothing more than the dirt beneath his boot. Someone he thought he could trust. Someone he literally risked his life to protect, when he told Mello he was acting as L, so prevent Soichiro from having to expose Light’s identity as L. Kira may be evil, but Light was good, right? So Kira couldn’t be truly evil, because Light wasn’t; couldn’t be.

i’ve been tryna figure out what weird shit matsuda would be into and i can’t figure it out- thoughts ?? like he has to have some sort of weird hobby 🤧

help because the entire task force is definitely into doing weird creepy things ???? also i ended up going all in and i have thoughts for the spk so those might come soon!!

matsuda; he listens to people's conversations and reads messages and emails over their shoulders inconspicuously. L is the only person who knows he does this, but matsuda gave him eight boxes of Pocky sticks so he keeps quiet.

L; he stopped when he was 16 because he made watari mad but he used to bite his nails (and toenails 😐) and like throw them to the side ???? that was the only time watari ever yelled at him in front of the computer, so all of Wammy's house knows this. they wish they didn't

Light ; does """personal things""" on work computers. one time while they were waiting on evidence from the lab he wrote an entire fanfiction about him getting married and falling in love with Hideki Ryuga because he was bored. His dad knows about it, and so does Sayu.

Aizawa; He genuinely enjoys watching gory stuff. It's not really creepy, but off putting. He really likes those unsolved really gory crime cases, and he talks about them a lot. He says they help sharpen his mind but he just liked the blood and graphic descriptions/pictures

Soichiro; Unironically calls his wife "shnookums" and other gag-worthy pet names. in public. With everyone around to hear. The first time it happened was the first and last time they saw Light cry from shame.

Mogi; sweet gentle giant who is to be protected. but he has a Misa Misa shrine. he's got signed stuff, selfies, security footage from headquarters, and an old sock that's actually from Light's mom that got into his laundry by accident but he thinks its Misa's. Its surrounded by ritualistic candles and he talks to it for advice every night. No one knows why Watari laughs when he sees Mogi.

Ukita; He talked to himself. Loudly. everyone knew about everything in his life cus they heard it from him before he even wanted to tell them.

ide; he knows everything about everyone. he doesnt snoop, he doesnt eavesdrop, he just knows. he made matsuda cry once because he knew that Matsuda's fish was dead before he did. Matsuda never told anyone he had a fish.
