Finding Feminine Clothing
On one of our shopping trips, my boyfriend told me he was looking for feminine pants. He wasn't really seeing anything that caught his eye. I was trying to help him out, so I gathered a few pairs from around the store to suggest he try on.
"There's nothing particularly feminine about these," he said. "They're just plain pants. They're not flared or shaped differently or anything. They won't look feminine on me."
I explained to him that unfortunately for me and fortunately for him, every pair of women's jeans is designed to fit "femininely," even the plain ones. Women's pants are sneaky and will almost always fit you different than the way they look on the shelf. The details in the tailoring are subtle, but they make a big difference once you're wearing them, so the only real way to know what they look like is to try them on.
He came out of the dressing room with an expression of awe and disbelief. "You're right," he said, "even though they're just normal jeans, they just fit me so... feminine, somehow. The way they fit on my body is so different from guys' jeans."
Later, he told me on several occasions how much he loved them, and how glad he was that I encouraged him to try them on. Those jeans ended up being his favorite he's ever had. To paraphrase, he told me, "For the first time, I looked in the mirror and went-- whoa. Those are my legs. They actually look like me... I never realized until then that I've never felt that way before."
If you want to look a bit more feminine, you don't have to wear makeup or a skirt. Subtle differences in shape language go a long way. Seriously, go to a few stores you like, and just start trying stuff on from the women's section whether or not you love it off the rack. You'll probably be surprised at what you can find!
