Peter whipped his head at the sound, seeing the whizzing shield flying towards him and ducking just in time. He shot a web to catch it and yanked it back towards him.
He sensed the creature behind him and the shield arrived just in time to slam into its face. It crumpled to the ground and Peter didn’t have time to feel guilty. He saw the rest of the creatures advancing in around him and checked to make sure Mr Rogers was surviving okay without his precious weapon.
Steve had a creature in a chokehold with Natasha and Clint either side of him, so he looked in a better position than Peter was.
“Behind you, kid,” Tony’s voice came in his ear piece. He caught the stupid creature just before it could spit that poison at him - he’d already been caught in the leg and it was still burning even now. That was a medbay trip for sure.
Peter saw a line of creatures coming towards him, like a line of bowling pins just begging to be knocked over. He put a hand to his ear. “Mr Rogers? How does the shield work?”
He heard a crackle of noise before Steve’s voice came over, strained as if he was in the middle of something. “Just throw it with all you got and make sure you catch it when it comes back to you.”
Like a frisbee, Peter thought.
He aimed, waited. He put everything he had into the throw, wanted to make sure it didn’t lose momentum half way through and get lost in the fight, so he simply didn’t hold back.
It went soaring away from him. It cut through the sea of creatures ahead of him completely clearing his path. He waited, and waited a little longer.
Then he was back in the fight. He didn’t have time.
It was only after the dust had settled and the last of the creatures were gone that he thought to wonder where it went. When he was stood at Tony’s side, staring into a building with a small streamlined hole in the side of it, he realised that his “all” and Captain America’s “all” might not be quite the same.
“He said to give it everything I got!” Peter defended, laughing by Tony’s side.
Tony looked down at him, an eyebrow raised. “You are a freak of nature, you know that?”
