transplural tips from a cisplural
-> the biggest one is faking it until you make it. seriously. in my experience of helping transplurals, this has been the biggest part. but a question i often receive is: what does that look like?
"fake it until you make it" is very vague. so here are some things you could do:
1. use simply plural. Of course, it helps you keep track of your alters, but the chat feature is often underutilized. spend some time chatting with your alters. even if they're not conscious yet. even if you're basically just roleplaying for them. this helps you develop relationships with them and helps them develop a voice. let your alters talk to each other too.
2. give them differences. if you love sweet foods, make one of your alters hate them. if you have a specific music genre you like, make them like a different one. and stick with these differences. if you taste something thats just a little too sweet, oh suddenly you've switched and now you're this alter. if you hear the music your alter likes, suddenly youve switched.
3. you dont have to feel like youve switched. if you're still at the stage where you're roleplaying a switch, that's fine. go ahead, it doesn't hurt anyone. if you have to pretend to be an alter after encountering one of their triggers, do it.
4. make them their own internet presence. whether it be a blog or a social media account or even just a pinterest board, let them curate their own internet experience. and if you have to pretend to be them to curate that experience, go ahead.
5. just pretend. switches? pretend. likes? pretend. how they feel about someone? pretend. pretend long enough and itll come true.
-> think about them as if they're a real person. one of my system's most commonly used phrases is "oh x would like this." we buy things for each other, save images/posts for each other, and even make things for each other.
-> allow different alters to have different friends. this is a big thing for separating you from your alters. let them make their own friends. you can still be friends with them too but make sure its primarily the alter talking to the.
-> review your alters' info religiously. this is mostly for when you're first making an alter but constantly look over their info. try to utilize it in real situations. ex. "x likes this. x wouldnt like this. this would make x front. x hates this person but loves this other person.
"transDID systems will never be real" my ass.
I just got diagnosed with DID clinically today. it was genuinely the best, most euphoric experience I've ever had in my entire life. I'm transDID and I genuinely pass so well that I got professionally diagnosed. it's on my medical records and my medical professionals genuinely 100% we are cisDID.
please never give up, transplural/transDID/etc systems, transID or radqueer systems in general. it does get better, and even though the world is in trying times currently, I think what is best right now (especially in the US) for everyone, including antis too, is to try and get along for the meantime until everything is in a better state.. then we can go back to arguing
(actually, let's not go back to arguing. let's all just hold hands and frolic in a field of tulips!)
I’ve heard there’s a documentary coming out about the radqueer community so remember you’re loved and appreciated and your identities and feelings are all real and valid and there’s nothing wrong with you<3
For anyone that doesn't have anywhere to start with planning their alters, create your alters based off of internal family systems therapy!
This is a great place to start because everyone has parts to themselves, but you could use this as a way to turn those "parts" into fully formed alters! (IFS is different from dissociative identity disorder, which is why I'm saying this).
This will be a long post, so the info will be under the cut!
Hi, transplurals, I wish you a lovely day.
Please, know, that we love you with all our heart.
Your life is more precious than ever.
TransDID Tips from a CisDID System
Disclaimer: we only found out we had DID when we were diagnosed a few months ago and this post is based mainly on our experience!
☆ Use (self)hypnosis to create dissociative states in yourself! DID systems are highly suggestible as well so by creating hypnotic states (which are dissociative!) in yourself you are also becoming suggestible. I've heard of people making alters and amnesia this way.
♡ Practise different mannerisms for each of your alters, subtle things like the way you walk and even full body language tends to vary between alters.
☆ Act like you have amnesia for what happened when a different alter is out even if you don't have the amnesia- fake it til you make it!
♡ Have you alters have opposing views on things such as radqueers, proshipping, or even minority groups (transhateful) which are very common in DID systems since the environments in which we grow up are racist/homophobic/etc.
☆ Every alter in a DID system exists for a reason and their identity is heavily tied to trauma, work on how your alters relate to your trauma/transtrauma!
♡ Research the subtle ways DID presents both internally and externally and focus on creating those throughout your day.
☆ Read about imitative DID and work on having less warning signs for it. This is especially important if a diagnosis is going to be a part of your transitioning.
I hope these are helpful to someone! I tried to focus on things I don't see often:D
affirmations!
- It is more than okay to want to be a more complicated system.
- I deserve to have more system members, fragments, and more internal complexity.
- I need to be as large of a system as possible.
- I love being a system with dozens of parts.
