Just out of curiosity, does anyone else have any Trollhunter hot-takes that the fandom jumps them for every time they say?
I'll go first: I genuinely cannot stand Claire. I don't necessarily hate her, there's a few characters i do actually hate more than her, but in Trollhunters, her writing is genuinely terrible. She had a fantastic concept and relationships, but her actual writing makes me so mad. She gives me bad Main Character Syndrome, and it feels like she's constantly punishing the other characters for her not being the Trollhunter.
There's a few scenes where her writing feels very icky that I can think of, like when she attempts to stop the fight between Jim and Steve, just to get angry at Jim later for defending himself, pressuring/guilting Jim into going into the Darklands with absolutely 0 training herself after he AND Toby both explain that there is a literal war troll and army that eats humans on the other side, and the line that really bothers me is when she's ill with Morgana's curse, and Jim tries to suggest taking ONE night ofd (because she's literally on the brink of death) she tries to say, "Nobody needs to carry my burden." There's a couple other scenes too, but these are the ones that came to mind first.
I feel like Claire had so much potential, just to be butchered by bad/cringy writing. She does get better in Wizards though.
Average interactions between Angor Rot and Ngora
----------
During the old days
Ngora: this great- Angor, you let the dog get in the house-!!
Ngora: WHAT IN THE ACTUAL HECK-?!
Angor, being persecuted by a big bull and running away from it as fast as can: STAY IN THE HOUSE!!!
Ngora: YOU-GREAT-!
Ngora proceds to take a jar with colored powder: WAIT THERE!!
----
Actual times, TrollMarket
Ngora: Hey, Vendel! Watcha need? Leaf ashes or fire crystals?
Vendel: no, today I'll try to rest a bit, so, just a pair of- but what the-?!
Ngora: what?
Blinky: ANGOR, DON'T STOP RUNNING
Angor: WHAT DO YOU THINK I'M DOING?!
Claire: ARRRGH, TRY TO DISTRACT IT, LET'S GET THE BULL TO THE HERO'S FORGE!!!
Ngora: WHAT IN THE ACTUAL-!!
Ngora proceds to take some cups with different kinds of powder: WAIT THERE, I'M COMING!!!
And that's why Ngora works with plants and not with animals
Made a gift for a froend!
Me and my fren defending trollmarket!

Trollhunters au where everyone in Arcadia who’s grown up there has some kind of inherent magic about them, although some have more than others.
This is kinda inspired by Your Future Hasn’t Been Written Yet by Sakon76 on ao3, in the sense that people generally have a type of magic that they’re drawn to and can become really good at, but some people can learn other types and become a Jack of all trade master wizard type thing.
Some types of magic in the fic are smith magic, techno magic, shadow magic, and winter magic. There’s more but some get into spoiler territory if u haven’t read it and are going to so…
Anyway, in this au any kind of magic you can think of probably exists here and in Arcadia, everyone is capable of at least one of them, with varying levels of power and breadth (amount of magicks they’re capable of), although most of them don’t know it.
For example, Toby is good at troll types of magic, geomancy mostly, with a hint of smith magic. Before he knows about magic he’s drawn to rocks as we can see in the show. He would probably be really talented at geomancy, but struggle to do anything or than lower level smith magic
Claire would be an example of someone more powerful. Even before she ever knows about magic, she’s weirdly aware of her surroundings, almost like she has a six sense. She’s always been able to see better in the dark. When she does learn about magic she picks it up surprisingly fast and the only reason she doesn’t branch out beyond shadow magic right away is because she doesn’t know she can, but she always wants to know more.
Everyone else would fall into similar types:
Jim would be really good at potions (cooking), but have a hard time with literally anything else. This makes be Trollhunter, needing to cleave stones, kinda suck and super stressful.
Mary, would be really good at the software portions of techno magic. She’s also good at weaving and energy, but she’s less powerful with them because she’s not as interested in them. She could probably have a similar breadth to Claire (maybe smaller), but less power because unlike Claire, she’s not interested in much more.
Eli would also be good at Techno magic, both the software and hardware and a few other things, but he’s not that powerful. Most of his abilities come from the fact that he’s genuinely just skilled with tech.
Steve and Darci are harder to figure out, but I think it would hilariously if Steve was really good with plants, but has no idea.
Like, he doesn’t even have to try to get plants to like him, and he has no idea because he’s never thought about it. His parents were not plant people and he’s not friends with plant people, before and after he learns about magic, so he’s just going around with some powerful plant magic and no knowledge about it. They land in Camelot and suddenly plants are sprouting where he walks??? There’s higher magic levels 900 years in the past, which is messing with his uncontrolled magic, but they don’t know that. I just want copious amounts of confusion.
And finally, Darci. I have no idea what kind of magic she would have. Is there such a thing as Dance magic??? Chill vibes? Wind? Who knows? Whatever it is, it’s cool and she’s good at it. Ooo maybe, like Empathy and aura reading? And wind could work with dance? Maybe? Idk, but I think her powers would be more subtle than the others.
These are only, like, the main teenagers in Tales of Arcadia that I’m pretty sure grew up in Arcadia, but this would apply to all the other kids and the adults that grew up here.
Btw, I don’t think I mentioned, the reason it’s only people who grew up in Arcadia is because of the Heartstone. It’s literally huge and radiates magic so powerful it actually affects the humans living above it.
A lovely commission for @bluheaven-adw who had this idea for our heroes to enjoy a peaceful and well-deserved break. <3
Thank you again!
Confession after like 4 years of being in the ToA fandom: I’ve always had to maintain a certain emotional distance to its content, more than I’d wished. The reason being that....well..... that for all the smart plot development it had, for all the good humor, for all the great characters, and for all of the amazing, super beautiful and poignant animation... I had kinda hoped that the trolls would be sublime Dwarfs-of-LotR-like beings, with tons of epic lore, countless riches; a proud, majestic, ancient culture and a deep connection to the earth and its ores. Instead we got...well... trash-eating, cyclopean sewer rats and a lot of physical comedy around them. I confess that I went into the show with a very different expectation and that I personally dislike what I found. The closest the troll world ever came to my personal imagination of what it “should be” was at Draal’s death in the epic crystal cave. The thing is: When Blinky originally introduced Trollmarket to the gang, it was painted as magical. I missed that same magic very much later on. I missed glamorous troll ladies in full-on sparkling pink tourmaline. I missed Toby trying to make a fortune in the surface world by selling unique rocks to museum exhibitions, and thereby raising unwanted corporate attention. Or Jim being forced to trade rare gems for some important repairs/ fixing a disaster or something, while going against Vendel’s back. I missed Strickler trying to propose to Barbara with a breathtakingly honed diamond that he could only have gotten in the troll world - making Jim suspicious of a thing or two. I missed the trolls’ hearths, their giant forges of making and remaking the world, of causing earthquakes and disasters on a spa day or during wedding ceremonies. I missed their innate connection to fire and water. The danger that would come to human teens simply from being around forces of nature all the time. I missed the trolls’ scars and their personalized molds. Their societal hierarchy or their work professions being based on whether they’re made of pumice or of titanium. I expected them to eat moss. Idk. I confess that I wanted the famed ‘stone people’ to be more than Arcadia’s convenient waste bins.
I’m happy for all the rest of what we got!!!!!! This just was different than expected. Anyone feel similar about it though?
How did the Trolls treat Jim prior to his house arrest inside Trollmarket?
Everyone heard about the mysterious shapeshifter since gossip is quick to travel fast. No one expected it was a human though. You can say Jim was a sad lost puppy to them unlike in canon. Kanijar being around kept any negativity from festering as he does respect the boy and he did save the Trollhunter.
Other than our usual troll cast, Bagdwella was the first to try and make Jim's stay a bit better. This is when she gets to encounter Greymatter once the gnomes start their usual trouble. A small headstart to building a good relation with Trollmarket's citizens.
Jim began to experiment with his aliens whether by seeing if anyone is having a problem or cause some lighthearted mischief alongside some younglings. He even entertains any whelps whether their families are new residents or just passing by. Jim was practically another whelp as I can see a good chunk of residents not having a firm grasp on a human's age range.
Even when the mandatory visits start or ends, he continues to visit and brighten everyone's days.
