Insights from the 2.01 script that stood out to me:
Cooper tempting Lucy by appealing to her curiosity, just as Moldaver did in 1.08. I love the characterization of Lucy as being insatiably curious and what that will mean for her relationship with Cooper going forward as well as how she navigates the wasteland. I just know Lucy has A MILLION questions for Cooper and she won't be able to leave well enough alone. She has to go after him and won't be satisfied until she gets what she wants.
"...but this is still Lucy, so she has to try to find a peaceful path forward."
Lucy's moral resilience and steadfastness in who she is, despite the cruelty around her.
Cooper's flashbacks are set three years before the bombs drop. That's very interesting for the timeline. A lot can happen in three years... (also a little continuity issue with Janey being shown as a similar age in both the flashbacks and in the cold open of 1.01 when the bombs drop—she should have been older.)
[The Ghoul] "RECOGNIZING THE OBJECT"
Apparently Cooper recognizes the black boxes?! And is "putting it together." Therefore, it would seem he knows about the experiments, likely because of House. Or maybe from Barb? I'm interested to see this play out in the next season.
Attended a rattlesnake conference yesterday and one of the presenters was talking about public attitudes towards snakes, specifically how showing them in a non-aggressive context helps to create more positive attitudes, and. Y'all. I NEED to show you the image he used as an example
Look at him. Look at this smiley newborn sidewinder sitting in a bottle cap. He is so small and so happy he is EXACTLY the right size to sit comfortably in a bottle cap
@taradiddled
I hope the presentation featured a lot of snakes in fancy hats.
It always surprises me when I see some queer folks romanticising the ussr, proudly wearing ussr symbolic or stalin's portraits in their bio. Like 'fuck yeah I'm this radical communist, baby'. No, you're not. You're a fool, used by russian propaganda. Cos guess what often comes hand in hand with romanticising ussr? Yeah - complete ignorance and denial of ussr crimes. But also, as a pleasant bonus, it comes with romanticising russia and complete ignorens and denial of russia's war crimes against numerous of it's neighbor countries. Including so-called federations (cos it's not just russia it's russian federation). Should I tell you how Ichkeria (Chechnya) because a part of russian federation?
'But... but ussr meant the unity of nations! The end of racism! The end of class dividing! The end of capitalism!' You might say. No, my dear. All nations were equal in ussr, but russians were more equal than the others, if you know what I mean. They were special. They often were presented as more pure, more noble, more kind, more intelligent. You often might hear how with such ecstatic voices they said 'russian man'. Like they're saint just because they're russian. All others though... Ukrainians, for example, were considered lazy, cunning and stupid. Jews... well. God forbid, you're Jewish in ussr. And you're most certainly gone for good if you're native and non white looking lad. There were special names for all middle eastern nations in ussr. Even if you were about to forget your origin, your culture and your face and became a comrade, devoted communist - You'd still be worse than russian. Because 'russian man' (ecstatic voice here)...
Now the end of capitalism part. It didn't work, okay. If there's a way to make more human way of economy, so everyone would feel fulfilled without the need to survive - it's not communism. Even communist countries nowadays shifted to the market economy because communism didn't work. My humble opinion nobody asked about - both capitalism and communism sucks. Both these ways are inhuman.
And the cherry on the top - LGBTQA+ communities! So yeah whatever lenin was blah blah at the beginning of his sunrise to allure more people into his cult - it was never done. Like all cults (and lenin build a cult. If you look closely at whole communism history you'd see it's one, huge cult with all cult like attributes) it started with promises of liberation, better life and free food for everyone and ended up in slavery. So all your 'gay communist' communities with stalin and lenin portraits, and ussr symbols are pure clownship. A circus. Being gay in ussr was a crime. It was considered a disease, a deviation nobody tolerated. There's no lgbt+ movies, books or whatever from ussr. You know who brought you lgbt+ movies, books and art? Not ussr, not communism, but simple people, activists who put their lives on it. So if you're so pro LGBT+ do us all a favor - put in your bio faces of real activists who fought for your rights, not ussr/stalin/lenin shit who'd executed you if you dared to born in ussr.
"Capitalism and the US suck, so therefore communism and the USSR have to be good because they are the opposite" is a dumb fallacy, I've been saying this for years
Also "unity of nations" and "anti-fascism" my ass, my parents were taught that the n-word was the appropriate word to use when describing black people. Not at home, in school. My mom was born in the 70s and she still learned race theory in school, but always followed up with "oooh but they are our brothers". Sure, Jan. If you analyze literally any bit of Soviet propaganda, you realize very quickly that it just portrayed other nations and races as equal on the surface, but in reality non-white, non-russian people were always seen as lesser. The "little, dumb brother", if you will.
How about we start applying critical thinking not just to right-wing propaganda, but to Soviet era propaganda as well? Because it seems to me a lot of people completepy shut off their brains when it comes to the latter.

I think you can absolutely still have hope while acknowledging we are in multiple forms of collapse. You can be hopeful you’ll get a job. You can be hopeful solutions will arise. You can be hopeful you’ll make friends. You can be hopeful that there are people who care for the world amidst the world being beat and bruised.
You’re allowed to care even though lots of things are going bad. Some things can’t be fixed or saved. But it’s okay to hold onto hope for something good to happen tomorrow. Good things are always going to pop up like flowers in war zones.
“The world is not on fire, there are just lots of fires.” Don’t lose hope that some fires can be put out. So much is still easy. Build a safe zone within the flames, and persist putting them out. Accepting we are in a bad place does not equal rolling over to let it get worse. No matter how bad things will get, you can still put out flames in different spaces.
You can give yourself the freedom of acknowledging life right now is in a state of unrest and we don’t know when the chapter will close, while also being happy we are here with other people and things that make it worth it. Because it is worth it. All hard things are worth it.
Allow yourself gentle mercies that will keep you alive.
You have to let people love you. You have to let people get to know you. You have to let people help you. Being so completely selfless that you try to erase yourself off the face of the planet and never ask for anything and reject everybody's offers of support makes you very hard to love! Unfortunately. Emptying yourself out of everything that makes you, you is not actually what your loved ones want from you, generally. They want to make you happy! They will be so so sad if you don't give them the chance. It's not all selfish. I promise.

MĀRAMA (2026) - Taratoa Stappard
A Māori, anti-colonial, and gothic horror film? This sounds AMAZING and I need Mārama to be released yesterday.
Far from home and haunted by visions, a Māori woman uncovers gruesome secrets inside an English manor. A bold, unsettling gothic tale of identity, memory, and colonial reckoning. (tiff)
They be chillin'
Because SOMEHOW people need to be reminded of things from literally ten years ago:
"Free the nipple" never meant "free to not wear a bra" or "free to breastfeed." Those were adjacent conversations that of course "free the nipple" supporters would boost, but that was NEVER the core of free the nipple.
The core of free the nipple was always that the breasts of people perceived as women ("female-presenting nipples" to use some Tumblr speak) are in no way different than the breasts of people perceived as men. And that since the chests of people perceived as men are not sexualized and are allowed to be exposed, so too should the breasts of people perceived as women. If men can be topless, so can women. If it's inappropriate for women to show their chests, neither should men. It isn't sexual assault for a woman to walk around barechested, because it isn't sexual assault for a man to do so either, and breasts are NOT sexual organs.
Claiming breasts are inherently sexual organs is factually and morally wrong, it is sexist and controlling, it is a tool of oppression, and it defines normal body parts (and bodily functions) as sex which leads to inherent sexualization of people with those parts. It leads to 12 year olds with large breasts being accused of seducing 40 year old men or trying to distract and corrupt their classmates.
"Free the nipple" doesn't mean "free the nipple in a god-fearing way." It means FREE THE NIPPLE, full stop, end of sentence. It means to free the nipple of the faulty social constructs that cast it as a sexualized, malicious force of seduction instead of a normal body part that should be free of expectations of shame or "modesty."
Breasts and nipples aren't shameful, sexual, immoral, porn-adjacent, kinks, a distraction, or things to be feared. They are a part of your body just like your elbows and ankles, and being afraid of them, thinking they will corrupt some innocent person or that being exposed to them is trauma akin to sexual assault, is the entire fucking problem.
Free the nipple, not just for breastfeeding, not just from bras, but from the fucked up social constructs that cast them as malicious instead of innocent. Stop trying to sanitize "free the nipple" for puritanical, conservative audiences who already hate you and the rest of us. You aren't helping anyone.
Free the nipple means FREE THE NIPPLE.
