i just thought of people pearl absolutely admire and would feel guilty failing over. i love PET postal but there's also this distance in this group that comes from pearl timezones preventing them from hanging out and doing stuff together, which solidifies their roles for me in this au... she would love to get to know them and save stars together but she couldn't, even though both etho and tango have high opinions of her. having friends in different timezones than you is kind of like a dead wife

People are always giving the advice of "don't worryyy nobody is going to perceive the little details about you that you're stressing over" meanwhile artists are over here legitimately anxious because we are trained to study someone in such a way to see those details. It's perfectly reasonable to think someone would notice things about us because we pay attention to the world

I mean, yeah, valid! but but but I also want to add on the fact that lotr AGGRESSIVELY rejects the “grimdark” and “gritty” settings that is so prevalent in fantasy (and also in general) right now, because I physically can not shut up about it

It is hope and love and compassion that saves each character individually, and because of that, the world. Frodo fails in the end, but his acts of compassion from earlier in the story save the day. And even as the world is saved, it is acknowledged that Frodo failed—without judgement, without blame. He fails, and he is still loved.

And like what can happen in the real world, he is still irrevocably changed by his trauma. But there is still hope—he has to leave, but he leaves with the promise of healing, and the promise that his ever-faithful Sam will follow.

Aragorn, Boromir, Frodo, Sam; each and every one of the characters are driven by their love of the people around them and their hope for the future. They cling to that love and hope throughout their trials, and that bears them through.

Of course people are watching it for comfort!!!! Lotr is eternally consistent in its promise, which Sam articulates so clearly in The Two Towers: “Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines, it’ll shine out the clearer.”

Things are dark and awful and terrible, but it will not be that way forever. That is the promise of LOTR. A promise of hope, and the reminder that it is love and compassion—for our friends, for our families, for the strangers we’ve never even met—that will save us in the end.

I just want to add, it’s not just that The Lord of the Rings rejects grimdark and gritty fantasy - The Lord of the Rings is the original. Grimdark is what you get when you reject the bright half of the eucatastrophe.

I think my favorite interpretation of this is that Judaism just independently formed on Erid. Would probably lead to a lot of uncomfortable questions back on Earth.

Lets open some of those questions, I want to hear peoples headcannons:

Do they pray towards/center Jerusalem in their version of Judaism, or do they have their own holy site like the Samaritans? If the former, how did that end up happening?

What exactly are the implications of seeing the sounds and hearing the sights at Har Sinai for a species which uses echolocation to "see"?

Circumcision???

Given that eating is taboo in Eridian society, is the Pesach Seder (which you are commanded to eat at, no way around it) just a really awkward time for everyone or does the ceremony look different?

Without a moon or way to see it, how does the Jewish calendar work on Erid?

Does God just go around to every planet with sentient life and pick a group to be His contractors to fulfill His will in that world or are Earth and Erid special in that regard?

OKAY. So. Obviously I'm most fascinated by Eridian kashrut. Even if we lean more movie canon, it's still. An issue. Like, okay they have their own food, their own animals I'm sure theoretically they have food that'd be kosher. I haven't read the book, is their food metal? That seems like it's one of those "not technically food so it's not treif." Matzah... they must have a grain on Erid. That they can process. That's similar enough to either wheat, barley, rye, oats, or spelt. Idk. Can you matzah metal?

We do know that somehow there's water on Erid, we don't know what form, but they are water-based lifeforms, so, potentially mikvah?

I think there's a lot of etching, but also does that go against tattoo halacha? Idk, when I first saw this I immediately thought that he has tefillin lines etched around whichever arm Eridian Rabbis decided was the proper one. And I guess head tefillin. I didn't think about the days you're not supposed to wear tefillin, but I'm a woman that doesn't do it so uhh. Ignores it.

Torah and siddurim and sefarim that have raised letters or some form of braille...

Does Erid not have a moon??? Uh. Hm, probably their own Jerusalem, I think. I think it's still Earth Judaism but Eridians get really confused about some of the language that concerns the body, specifically human language. I think the echolocation seeing is fine.

This is silly but why would theoretical Eridian Judaism have the same holidays as Earth Judaism? Many Jewish holidays are based on agriculture calendars or “they tried to kill us we survived now let’s eat” so does Eridian antisemitism exist?

I assume G-d would adapt the covenant to fit the species of each planet so it’s all slightly different in terms of what is/isn’t kosher or Halacha so it suits their environment and yeah, the same goes for the holidays.

But also it would be really funny if Rocky wanted to convert after discovering Judaism because how would that work (even if Grace was Jewish?)
