Okay everybody, I have started to write and now am in need of a beta reader to help with my sceems.
If you are interested shoot me a message.
Very quick synopsis of the planned plot:
(Among Us-Au)
The year is 2214
Ryland Grace (the second), the great, great, great grandson of Colt Sievers and crew are send out to studdy a new taumeoba strain that has been discovered on a small moon called AT-5 even though it is not a chosen breeder plante and accidentally pick up an imposter on the way.
While managing budding feelings for the grumpy O2 tech Simon, Grace also ends up the one leading the investigation into the two deaths that ocure on board the Hail Mary 2 within only a few days of each other.
Lucky that Rocky and Adrian are very determined to keep the indirect decendant of their best fried and saviour of earth and erid safe.
Also important info: English is not my first lenguage and I have not yet watched Iron Lung
So, I am working on a bloodymary fanfcition and the movie and fandom wiki don't say Carls family name, so I need suggestions for one or someone who read the book to tell me should one be mentioned there, because I do not want to name him Carl Karlson or something.
First of all, why have I not seen a single wingfic about these two and secondly, here are my headcanons.
Simon never having been able to spread his wings out because he grew up on a space station and therefor the tendons in them being actually kind of shortened
Simon being some kind of corvid and hating that because of their negative association and Grace telling him about how intelligent and caring they actualy are
Grace is some kind of dove with brown and white wings. (Because doves bond so much with their partners and always fin their ways back to them)
Grace helping Simon groom his wings and Simon shaking the entire time because his wings have been clipped in the past and he is afraid of someone doing that again
Grace heart braking seeing how messed up Simons wings are
Simon getting to stretch out his wings for the first time on Erid
Grace letting Simon groom his wings to prove to Simon that he can be gentle and that Grace is not afraid of him
Simons seing his feathers be shiny for thr first time as longs as he can remember
Simon secretly collecting the feathers whenever Grace looses some, he does not even know why but having something like that helps him believe that Grace is real
Grace researching rehab methods for damaged wings as Simons have definetly been broken or dislocated in the Iron Lung
Simon hiding in his wings
Simon trying to hide his wings behind his back by folding them as tightly as he can, so that noone can touch them
Grace being the first one to groom Simons wings thince his mother
Rocky being sad, that he can't really help with the grooming because his tactile sense is dulled when wearing the xenonite suit
Simon ripping out his own feathers when he feels like he is unworthy of his life with Grace and trying to punish himself
Grace being horrified at that
Grace having a bad sence of where his wings end and often times knocking things over
Simon initially trying to make himself look more intimidating upon his arrivall on the Hail Mary by opening and puffing up his wings, eventho it hurts
Maybe Simon is missing patches of feathers because of the acidic blood
Simon sleeping under Graces wing or wrapped in them
Simon loving it when Grace grooms his wings, he crys frequently because he still has problems understanding that someone would want to do this for him.
Simon praying quietly when he grooms Graces wings because to him it is more than just affectioned behaviour, it is worship
Simon using one of his fallen out feathers to pollinate plants by hand
Rocky giving himself a little wing or feather shaped carving to commemorate Grace
Rocky actually thinkings the wing grooming thing is sweet. His leaky fluffy space blobs are being adorable.
Rocky telling Simon that Grace likes grooming his wings for him and that he also likes it when Simon grooms his wings in return
I have read someone pointing out that Simon genuenly beliving Grace to be a divine being, would inherintly put something very unhealthy in regards to powerdynamics into their relationship, should they enter it while he still belives that, which I understand and agree with, not to mention it unintentionally leaning into the white-saviour-trope. And we don't even need to mention Simons mental health in that case.
Luckily in all fics that I read whith that trope Grace is rather clear about not being an angel and expresses discomfort at the notion and tries his best to make Simon understand that and in most Simon realises that that is true.
(I still love that trope. No I do not have a saviour complex and abandonment issues and because I want to provide the comfort that I lack so often thanks to being neurospicy and that is why I love hurt/comfort so much. Nooooooooo)
Never mind all of that right now.
What if Simon simply calls Grace an angel because that is the closest word he has to discribe what Grace means to him?
Grace saved him, was most likely the only truly kind face Simon has ever seen outside of potentially his mother. He spend precious resources on him and offered him everything he never thought possible, so of course Simon is insanely greatfull for that.
But what if, without really noticing that he is healing, now that he is safe, Simon starts to realise that he likes who he is becoming when he is with Grace. That he likes who he is in the space Grace offers. And that was never really even an existing concept for him when he was in Eden.
(Kind of like a traumatised fosterdog being put together with a not traumatised one in a foster home and the traumatised one realising through the other that this is a new chapter)
Being shown that kindness is a choice, and that if you never had the chance to chose kindness, how were you supposed to be kind. And Grace provides that space for Simon, by being an example but also by being pacient.
Simon calls Grace an angel because he does not know how to express all of that. He calls Grace an angel because they are protectors, they are kind, they are messengers, they are warriors and so much more. He knows that Grace is as human as he is, but to him he is an angel. Maybe not to anyone else.
And maybe he is still scared to call Grace his everything, because he is still a little bit afraid of the force of his emotions, because for all of his life, the only emotions that he ever felt that strong were anger and fear.
And now he finds himself daring to choose kindness. He finds that he is not only still alive but living. Actually living.
And that is why Grace is his angel. Not a but HIS.
(And over time he understands, how much his presence also gives Grace, after he understands what Graces presence means and gives to him in return. Because I don't think he would even be fully able to understand such a concept thanks to the world he is from and his upbringin. The idea that thay can carry eachother and both have the capacity for that)
(AN:I still have not watched either movie, but good god does bloodymary have a gripp on me. I can't even remember if any fandom ever had such a grip on me, I guess the Audhd hyperfocus is kicking. So this is probably pritty OOC)
it genuinely aggravates me when people say aliens were never in space they were always in the ocean bc the ocean is on earth so if they’re from the ocean they can’t be aliens bc they’re not extraterrestrial
Disclaimer: I am in no way saing, that either of these characters had any fault in what happened to them, I am simply looking at the audiences reaction and trying to find the reason for it.
I have now noticed on multiple ocasions that the audiences reaction to Alucards SA seemed different than to Hectors and that got me thinking about that and why it could be that way.
Please correct me if I am wrong, forgotten any details that are important or you think differently, but I think the reason was, that we as the audience had a certain level of frustration buildup towards Hector for not seeing that he was falling for the same ruse twice and repeating the same mistake, inspite of him knowing the only reason why he was left allive by Carmilla and dragged to her castle, was so he could make nightcreatures for her.
While in Alucards case, we as the audience saw that something was up with Taka and Sumi and therefor had reason to be suspicious, while he had not, at least not really. The information that they gave about themselves was true or at least so plausable that noone would have not believed them. And all the instaces that made us think that there was something in the bush, were not really witnesed by Alucard, at least nothing that could not have been easily a result of their lives befor Draculas fall and therefor not perceived as suspicious.
And even we did not see it coming, that Taka and Sumi would react/behave that way. Yes we saw the red flaggs, but were not given enough information to realise how red they were, while from the audiences point of view Lenore had "I am manipulating you" written on her forhead and still Hector who should have had every reason to not believe a word she said, trusted her.
Now, I am NOT saying that either of them had any fault whatsoever in what happened to them, ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!!!! their vulnrabilities where abused and used against them in both cases! I am saying that as an audience of a show, seing a character repeating the same mistake multiple times is quick to grow frustrated. Even more if one of the characters is less popular than the other and we where give more time to get to now them and gorw emotionally attached to them.
But if you think about it, with all we have gotten to know about Hector, how could he have not fallen for Lenore. Everything told us that especialy he was susepetible to that kind of manipulation. He was the only character in that show who possibly could fall for that kind of ruse and in that situation above all, and that is exactly why Lenore did that.
But us having gotten frustrated with him simply could not see that.
While Alucard seemingly gave his consent by participating initially his emotional state was used against him and a murder atempt definetly revokes any kind of consent that possibly could have been given at any point in time, and Hector who was a hostage and kept prisoner was not even truly in a condition where he could have given true consent, even if in his mind he maybe was, up untill Lenor used magic to enslave him.
Both of them are victimes and deserve nothing but compation (and that nothing bad ever happens to them again for fucks sake, leave my darlings be!!!)
But yeah, that is why I think people care more about Alucards SA than Hectors and even go so far as to victim blame Hector for not seeing what was going on.

AO3 should have an Annotation Mode where you can click to view all of the author's commentary and thoughts about certain parts of the work. A little comment that says "I spent five hours researching vintage radio mechanics for this and didn't even end up using it" or "this is an ancient Hebrew literary technique!" would make my day
*sends out email I've been putting off* ah finally :). ah that's a weight off my shoulders :). ah I can relax an-- *receives response to email* what the fuck. what the fuck. what the fuckkkk
