my favourite Heated Rivalry specific micro-trope in fanfiction is when Shane or Ilya casually dropping the fact of just how long they've been in a relationship.

I especially enjoy when it's a situation where people can't really ask followup questions so they're just left shocked.

And I wish there was a tag for it so I could read all the fics where they do that. but i guess I'll just have to read all the fics. so much hard work

Not enough has been said about Hudson's acting in the scene in Ep. 6 between Shane and Yuna. The way Shane says, basically, "I tried really hard to be straight, and it didn't work, and I'm sorry." It just kills me. Wrapped up in that moment is the experience of every child of every parent ever..."you have these expectations of me, and I can't meet them, no matter how hard I try, and will you still love me if I am ME and not who you thought I would be?" And Hudson's acting is absolutely perfect. The exquisite vulnerability of that moment is everything I love about this show and these amazing actors.
