It is with heavy heart that I write my first article of 2016 about the passing of one of my all-time favorite artists, David Bowie. It is very sobering to wake up on the morning of your 30th birthday only to find out that a legend and personal hero's life ended the same day a new era of my life begins. I've spent the whole day listening to my favorite hits by the man of many faces and then his final album★ (Blackstar), released mere days ago on Bowie's 69th birthday, and was left in awe of the legacy of this fearless chameleon and artist.

Sorry I forgot to post last week folks. Lots of great stuff happening this week!

Straight Outta Compton is like the best music biopic ever, and Mistress America is really funny! Mistress America star Greta Gerwig and director Noam Baumbach will be doing Q&As at Sunshine Cinema this weekend!

Free outdoor movie season is almost over. Watch Guardians of the Galaxy, The Incredibles, Interstellar, Paddington, and more outside while you can.

Lots of delicious food and drink events happening all over town as well, include an all-peach pop up dinner, a pig roast, a homebrew competition, and Time Out’s Battle of the Burger.

Plus live music from lots of up-and-coming indie bands!

Lots of fun stuff happening this week, including a more affordable and neighborhood-y Grand Street Restaurant Week. Lots of free movie and sneak peeks of cool new indie films, and live music from Hot Chip, Wolf Alice, Big K.R.I.T., Angel Haze, and more!

Also Jason Segel and Jesse Eisenberg are great in The End of the Tour, based on Rolling Stone writer David Lipsky’s interview with David Foster Wallace after the release of his epic novel Inifinite Jest.

Restaurant Week started Monday and goes until Friday, August 14th, and Ant-Man is really fun!

Amy Schumer’s movie Trainwreck is equal parts hilarious and heartfelt with many cameos from athletes as well as up-and-coming comedians. And Daniel Radcliffe. Go see it!

Lincoln Center is celebrating all things Judd Apatow this weekend. Then on Monday, Apatow will be in conversation with Girls star and creator Lena Dunham, and then on Tuesday, he and Amy Schumer will attend the premiere of their latest film Trainwreck, all at Lincoln Center! Apatow has made dick jokes classy as hell.

In other free things, there’s free concerts from Waxahatchee, the Punch Brothers, the New Pornographers, the Chi-Lites, George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic and many more, plus like free movies almost every single day!

SO many great bands playing Northside Festival this week! I’ve recommended some of the few free and non-sold out shows.

Jurassic World is fun if you don’t think about it too much and just embrace Chris Pratt and dinosaurs for all they’re worth. Me and Earl and the Dying Girl, though, is one of the best coming of age stories I’ve ever seen. Both open this weekend.

Plus lots of movies, great comedy, LOTS of food events, and free shows all over town!

Spy is the funniest movie I’ve seen this year and Testament of Youth is one of the saddest movies I’ve seen this year. Both open this weekend.
