STOP bringing snacks into your FUCKING MECH. Your vitals are literally LINKED TO YOUR MECH. If you need nutrients they will be DISPENSED DIRECTLY INTO YOU. You are literally JUST MAKING CRUMBS AND A MESS.

The oldest living tree ever found was a pine named “Prometheus.” It had been alive since before the Egyptian pyramids were built. Some guy cut it down in 1964. Source
he was actually a forestry graduate student who was doing research on bristlecone pines (Pinus langaevea) and got his increment borer stuck in the tree. this tool costs almost $800, so he asked the forest service if he could cut down the tree to recover the tool. after cutting it down, it became apparent that the tree was actually the oldest living organism. ever. (around 8,000 years old). so, not just some asshole. the guy feels extremely guilty and has even broken down in tears during an interview about the accident
OH MY GOD SO LET ME TELL YOU A STORY
So after the grad student cut down the tree and discovered it was the oldest tree in the world he quit studying forestry and went to study salt flats (can’t cut down the oldest trees in the world on salt flats no siree none of that happening) and he was being interviewed about his research, but in the middle of the interview the reporter just stops and says “wait aren’t the guy that…”
And he just takes off running. Literally. Turns around and runs across the salt flats away from the interview and I feel so bad for him but I can’t help but start crying I’m laughing so hard about it imagine a guy high tailing it across salt flats away from a dude with a recorder
its so different to know it was an accident and that NO ONE was aware until after. its not like this was one ignorant guy cutting down a fucking relic.

very happy with how this turned out 😺 it's literally them
I need to rewatch this show, and force my gf to watch it too.
I love that Leverage really goes out of it’s way to show us that just because you break the ‘rules’, it doesn’t mean you’re breaking the rules. Rules and laws and society are all made up, at the end of the day, and all you really have is your own moral compass and sense of justice; is this just to you? Is it right? Should it be OK for companies to put people in insurmountable debt for the rest of their lives just because our medical care is so expensive in this modern day and age? No law or rule should change what you know in your heart is right and wrong, and I think that’s the key thing that makes someone a good person in my eyes.
#there was a time when parker wouldn’t have noticed, #not because she lacked the capacity to care, #but because she had narrowed herself, #to stay alive she cut off as many unnecessary things as possible, #watching her get them all back, #is one of the glories of this show (via @seananmcguire)
Leverage hands down has the best character development I’ve ever seen.
This scene hit me like a brick. My parents were hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt when I was 16 bc I’d had cancer the year before (my treatment ended up being free but the initial ER bills and such were not).
But somewhere along the line they just… Disappeared. My mom says they’re not being paid and they’re not in collections. It’s almost as if someone out there did…exactly what Parker did.
Ever since I saw this the first time, I’ve imagined it was Parker doing it. That she and Hardison had a free weekend and decided to take it out on a collections agency. That I was one of the lucky ones who got a little Leverage.
Okay but like yeah, that is actually a thing that happens, albeit not exactly like this. I don’t remember the exact process but basically there’s a booming industry to sell peoples debt - the business you owe money to sells it to someone else for a fraction of the money owed, wipes their hands of the whole affair, and now whoever bought your debt is riding your ass to get you to give the money to the. But it’s also entirely possible for people to just… buy up massive amounts of debt for pennies on the dollar, and then just. Forgive it. Because capitalism is a living nightmare, but the system is broken enough that it’s possible to exploit it for good sometimes.
Like, the main reason I know about this is because John Oliver did a piece on debt buying a few years ago, and ended it by revealing that he’d bought 15 million dollars worth of medical debt just so he could forgive all of it. Both to expose how broken the system was because some random fucker like him could buy millions of dollars in peoples debt with zero regulations, and also just to take the record for biggest TV giveaway in history.
A charity where you can do this, right here.
Be Parker! Be somebody else’s Leverage!
Reblogging for the website.
yes! if you want to help with the medical debt crisis in the US and have some extra money please donate to RIP Medical Debt if you can. They’re completely legit and really do what they say - you really CAN relieve an incredible amount of debt for the needy with even a small donation. I’m a monthly donor and receive a quarterly report of the debt they’ve abolished, and it truly is amazing. Based on those reports the average amount of debt abolished per person is actually I would say about $600 - which means, if you’re doing the math, that with a $6 donation to RIP Medical Debt, you can potentially pull one person out of a poverty spiral - maybe even one family. For six dollars. that’s a pretty good deal, I think.
RIP Medical Debt is now called Undue Medical Debt!
Undue Medical Debt makes it easy for donors to make an impactful difference in the lives of those struggling with medical debt.
this just needs to get out there.
Fuck hostile architecture, I want unhostile architecture. I want benches to be designed to be as easy as possible to sleep on. I want little places for pigeons to nest to be purposefully put on buildings. I want people designing public spaces to think about what they'd be like to skateboard on. I want "Please loiter" signs. I want people to be kind. I want...

Do you think Handler stays at HQ because she too lives in fear of what she's created?
she said this to me at like 3 am
omg yes
idk why, but for some reason i find photoshopped pictures of poptart boxes with fake ridiculous, outrageous flavor names to be the funniest freaking thing
like this is hysterical
had to pitch in a few i found, i have been cackling at this for like 15 minutes
I’ve seen this post floating around intermittently for years and I just realized this is the American version of the one here in Germany, in which we do the same thing with Ritter Sport:
In order from left to right: American-style hot dog, canned ravioli and warm beer, raw ground pork,* toothpaste,** pomegranate,*** and Obama-edition flame-grilled beef patty with crispy fries.
These are just scraping the top of how deep it goes.
* Mett is an actual dish which, due to reasonable food safety standards in Germany, is safe to eat and essentially pork tartare, though not recommended for those pregnant, nursing, immunocompromised, or similar medically contraindicated groups. Much of the world does not maintain the necessary level of structural food safety standards for raw pork to be safe to eat, or otherwise does not know how to prepare it safely on an individual level (the latter of which is true even in Germany) so best not to try this one at home!
** Recommended by dentists!
*** A pun. In German, “pomegranate” also means “grenade apple.”
also check out sbubby, It's not as good as it used to be but it's probably still good and it's all stuff like this.
this is GREAT two sentence horror actually
omg this is hilarious
So my gf and I are planning on playing GirlFrame, which is a mechsploitation ttrpg. Very cool. and she didn't really get why you can target the other pilots. Basically because it's a heirarchal system with a Dog and an Ace, where you get punishments for being the lowest rank and extra rewards for being the highest rank, every girl is encouraged to only act in their own interest. It is my job as the handler to make them work together, but they have no reason to do so other than to gain my favor or if they really need to. I had a point here, i forgot. I was playing skate story while explaining this all to her last night. I like infodumping to my gf. anyways send post.
I don't remember what exactly I said but as I was ranting to her about it she started to get more and more into it and eventually it just turned into me calling her a good bitch and bullying her. she liked it, I'm not just relentlessly mean to my gf we're in a very healthy and happy relationship
I love asking friends, without context, "what are you really into this week?" I'll go first. this week I'm really into mouthwash and sudoku. Last week I was into peaches.
we used to be a society on here!! reblog, don't like! I want to hear what you're into!!! I'm literally looking into the nyt game Pips!!!

Believe it or not, your internalized ableism probably DOES rub off onto others without you realizing it. I have always had extreme pain while walking ever since I could remember. My parents constantly told me it was because I never exercised enough, so I learned to just shut it down and be quiet.
I catch myself feeling weird and confused when someone else, “can’t just be quiet and suck it up too.” However, I never want to perpetuate that onto someone.
I remember how it felt to be holding back tears as it felt like my bones were going to snap. I remember how it felt when I stepped wrong and had to hold back a scream. That wasn’t fair to me, and it will never be fair to others.
Sometimes dismantling your self hate dismantles all hate.
yeah i had this same thing growing up, still not really past it but I'm trying and my girlfriend helps a lot. reminding me that yes, I do have a disability. I so commonly forget I do since I was raised like that and I'll blame myself for it like it's a personal failing. Trying to remind myself that i may not be capable of as much as other people and that's alright. Now I'm just trying to listen to my body but work has been trying to push me farther than my body can handle, I had to take painkillers to get to sleep last weekend. this turned into a little bit of a rant but I'm tired and I can't really think v. well rn.
So I had a funny dream the other night.
It involved a very gay witch.
this would probably work on me too
