A strange night ( wolfstar )
Monster hunter Sirius x Werewolf Remus ( 763 words )
AN : This is the first chapter of a Wolfstar AU I just came up with. Idk if I should continue it, but if anyone is interested, just let me know. ( it’s also not been proof read so I’m sorry for any grammatical mistakes )
Midnight had struck for the twelfth time, and Sirius couldn’t bring himself to finally close his eyes.
Ever since he’d walked into his manour this evening, all he’d felt had been this strange, underlying fear that someone had been watching him. This feeling followed him even now as he lay in his bed.
So he awaited the thing, the beast, or perhaps even person, stalking his every move to at last show itself.
His eyes tried to adapt themselves to the shadows to make out any possible form lurking amongst them, but nothing. Nothing could be seen, nor heard.
It was just him, and the ragged sound of his breathing amidst the darkness.
Then suddenly, a creak.
More of those squeaky sounds followed afterwards, cracking through the eerie silence of the room. Sirius could hear each and every one of the rustles the floorboards made underneath the steps of the unknown being approaching his bed.
“Who— Who are you ?” Sirius sputtered out, the anxiety evident in his tone, despite his efforts to sound confident.
“Mother, if your spirit has decided to haunt me for the rest of eternity, I’d much rather you show yourself and insult me to my face.” He then added with a tiny bit of humour to somehow reassure himself and perhaps appease his silent stalker.
The steps paused in response to his words, and only a slight muffled sound could be heard. Was the creature stifling its laughter ?
Sirius was left perplexed by the stalker’s reaction, genuinely surprised he’d made it giggle of all things.
“I… am not your mother. Nor a ghost, at that.” A rough, almost ragged voice rang back.
“Oh great. You talk.” Sirius couldn’t help the cheeky response that left his lips.
However, he quickly lost his confidence as he realized he had no idea what the creature’s intentions were. Provoking it was probably one of his worst moves, given that he most likely couldn’t defend himself.
Gods he was an idiot for not thinking he’d need a weapon near his bed. But then again he blamed James for telling him not to be so paranoid.
He should’ve known one of the creatures he hunted would come to get its revenge. Yet here he was, defenceless in the face of one thanks to his lack of carefulness.
“You’re.. a fun one, that’s for sure.” The stalker hummed after what seemed like an eternity. “I’ve not come to harm you. I simply need your help.”
“My help ?”, Sirius croaked, “You do realize hunt beasts, which you most likely are ? And besides, if you weren’t, breaking into my house isn’t the best way to ask for it.”
The creature seemed to gauge Sirius’ reaction for a moment before answering, its voice perhaps quieter now. “I do know. It’s why I refuse to show myself to you.”
It then sighed slightly, as if to relieve its own anxiety ( although it didn’t have much to fear at the moment ). “I want you to hunt the one that turned me into a monster.”
Sirius paused at the request. Oh. It was one of those. The ones that had their lives ruined by their curse, who had to leave everything behind because other creatures’ cruelty.
“I don’t… usually work on request if it isn’t for the Guild. But, I suppose if the price is right, I could make an exception.” He murmured, his tone much steadier now as he got into more of a bargaining headspace.
“I do have funds, from.. before. I’m unsure however if they will be enough for you.” The creature mentioned, clearly worried it might not be able to pay for his services.
Sirius slightly felt like a prick at the thought of leaving someone in such misery just to make profits. “I’m not that pricey. Just— give me enough to make the necessary travels, a bit to keep on the side.” He huffed, trying to make an effort to be affordable.
“You are kind. Thank you.” It smiled through its words before leaving with one last comment. “I will be leaving envelopes with indications and money every time you need them. Goodbye.”
“Wait—” Sirius exclaimed as he realized the creature was about to leave. “Are you not even going to tell me your name or show me your face ?”
“Simply call me R. As for my face… It’s too hideous. That is all you need to know.” It replied quietly before disappearing for good into the night.
Sirius was left slightly baffled by it all as he laid back in his bed. “What a strange night…”
End for now :)
