theyāre finally talking about pattyās binge eating disorder and food addiction, and it is heavy. the writers are portraying it scarily well too...this isnāt something you can just get over by controlling portions. as someone who has tried that many a times to the point of just not eating cuz i know if i did i wonāt stop...they got it right.
hopefully the season goes on to show patty getting the help she needs because without regular therapy to dissect and become aware of her emotional problems, she would still be consumed by an unhealthy relationship with food. they should flesh this story out and bring awareness because a quick blurb wonāt cut it.

They key to getting more characters like this is supporting the ones that exist!
Iām going to meet the love of my life in the traditional way. By getting arrested and having my mugshot featured in a Hot Felons account, launching my modeling career and catching the eye of the 35 year old child of a billionaire
reasons i love jon snow:
the first chapter he appears in he rescues puppies
the first chapter he narrates he gets drunk and cries
i mean talk about iconic
I am in the 1% of the population with this, but I really do not enjoy summer. I love winter, like⦠if you are cold, you can put on a hoodie, you can grab a blanket and snuggleā¦. Like⦠when youāre hot, what do you do? Rip your skin off?
heatwave!
For anyone living in Europe: the first heatwave of the season is forecast for tomorrow, and will likely stretch until Friday. Please stay safe.
Open your windows at night BUT close everything, including blinds and curtains, during the day
If you need it, buy a fan, a cold blanket or a cooler
Drink a lot
Also drink mostly water, without ice
If you can, avoid getting out in the sun between 11am and 6pm
If you need to go outside, wear sunscreen and a hat
Also loose clothes and natural, breathable fabrics
Think of your pets!Ā
Make sure they have access to water and shade, bring them inside the house if possible, donāt leave them in a car alone
Check on your grandma and other elderly relatives!Ā
Old people are at risk during hot weather, so remind them to drink and stay inside with their blinds closed
If you or people you know are experiencing the following symptoms
breathlessness
chest pain
confusion
intense thirst
weakness
dizziness
cramps that get worse or donāt go away
call an ambulance.Ā
Love the annual culling of Europeans because it gets over 70 degrees Fahrenheit
you have to realize we have extreme humidity. the thermometer might say 30C, but in reality, its 35C and youāre almost unable to breathe
So does like, the entire US east coast and south-east lmao.
If youād take your head out of your arse for five seconds youād realise that you have air conditioning nearly anywhere including private homes, and weā¦donāt. People are dying from this. But sure,Ā ālmaoā. Stay classy.
thereās this thing called not being used to or prepared for it, asshole.
anyway stay safe! bring sunscreen and water if you go out
that map looks wrong, too. itās been 36C in Rome.
3 people have already died, this is a legitimate issue you sociopath
especially since most of the people who die are either elderly or children
ok but Iām curious why people donāt just order an AC. if you canāt get one in Europe for some reason have one shipped from the US? They arenāt that expensive and if itās as bad as it sounds itās more than worth it
because thats something youād have to physically install in your house for basically a weeks worth of use maybe?
people have stand fans normally if anything
Theyāre ~$150 and all you do is open your window and stick it in. Takes maybe half an hour tops. Is that really too much effort?
Do you understand that a lot of countries donātā¦have this kind of window? And window ACs make no sense for them?
Literally no one has windows like this in France, this is legit the one way they never really open. And Iām sure itās the same for most euro countries.
Also⦠installing an AC on a very old house that was built centuries ago is not that easy as it wasnāt made for it. A lot of people all over Europe live in places that are older than the USA ffs, sometimes - in my country at least - itās forbidden to even alter a building so long as itās old enough to be deemed historical. You will need to get a permit for such a thing, if you even get it.
Not to mention that those things are expensive and most people donāt have the money to spend on installing them when it wonāt be useful 90% of the time as our climate rarely got that hot up until now (global warming might permanely change that though). Our old stones are usually enough during summer as they were designed to trap the cold at a time where ACs sure as shit didnāt exist.
So shut the fuck up with your us-centrism and sit down.
Americans shouldnāt have the right to speak. It would do a great favour to the rest of the world.
Oh my god shut the fuck up you literally have a problem with AC. Your buildings are fucking freezing because you canāt handle even the most insignificant inconvenience.
Just. Shut. The. Fuck. Up.
The heatwave is going strong so please hydrate and take care!
Please hydrate and you inconsiderate Americans above just shut up for once in your life.
If you canāt pay for a fan, cooler or something similar (because the good ones who are not burning when itās too hot they are fricking expensive) then hang wet clothes in your rooms, it cooles down the temperatures.
Drink! Stay hydrated. Water! If you want to taste something, put lemons, ginger, mint, apples, strawberries etc in it. Doesnāt matter what you like, but drink!
If you are like me and you feel like you cant breathe without fresh air, then it is a good idea to wet your curtains. The hot air from outside is cooled down because of it.
Drink! Warm(not hot) tea is good as well. Sweating helps the body to cool down. Doesnāt matter what kind of tea, but drink!
For you and your pets: cool/wet towels to lay down on or put then around your head and feet. Yes, feet!
Drink.
Wash your hands with lukewarm water.
Drink.
Dont shower really cold, it wont help in the long run. If you shower really cold and come out of the bathroom, the hot air will feel even worse than before. Lukewarm is your best friend.
Drink water. Seriously. Stay hydrated. And if youāve the feeling that you dont want to drink something anymore, eat your water, like: watermelons, cucumbers, strawberries, tomatoes, salads, peaches, oranges, etc. It helps so, so much. But dont drink water with extra sugar in it (like cola, limos, etc). Youāll need more water after that.
Put on some suncream even if youāre not in the direct sunlight or mostly inside. You skin will thank you in a few years.
Dont do sports in the middle of the day. Early morning, late evening/early night is the best time. And if you do sport⦠do you guess it? Yeah, drink enough water.
Another thing about drinking: in germany we say that you should drink up to 2-3 liters a day on normal temperatures, depending on your weight, height, work outs, job, etc. But on warm days up to threefold. If you are not sure if youāre drinking enough, check the color of your pee. Is it a light yellow, itās perfect. If its darker, you really have to drink more water. If its transparent on the other hand, you can drink a little less. And if itās always transparent you should consult a doctor and check about diabetes.
Another thing for your pets: if you have a feeling that the heat is too much for them, dont put ice cold water on them. They could die of a shock. Again: lukewarm water is your beeeeest friend! And you can get cooling mats on amazon for them. If they are behaving totally different than normally, check their tongues. Are they dark red?please go to a vet immediately. They could die otherwise.
And about you plants: water dem between 6pm-22pm. Not before because water reflect sunlight and you could accidentally burn them to crisps. (Iām still sorry, Paolo, my little palm tree)
So, stay safe :)
some americans at it again being assholes. stay safe everyone!
I love how they said āoh its only 150$, why wouldnāt Europeans just buy it?ā Maybe its because eastern european countries are fucking poor and 150$ is like 559 PLN, which is a half of most of my peopleās salary and they just canāt fucking afford it
Also, that how windows work in Europe, its impossible to put AC in here
Why ya'lls windows stupid
Look at this person, who read all of this, who had every chance to understand that our houses, including windows, just are not made for these temperatures or American-style AC, because it never before was a fucking issue. This person, who, after having the chance of understanding all this, arrived at the question:Ā āWhy are your windows stupid (and not like ours)?ā
I keep thinking thereās hope. Then shit like this happens.
Itās meant to be a humorous statement. We dont generally have windows like that in the states. They seem incredibly inconvenient. So I ask again. Why is y'alls windows stupid?
People are dying from the heat. Last time we had a record heat summer, it was 70,000. But you do you and enjoy your jokes and superior windows, fuckface.
here we go againā¦
Wow, such edge. Wowowow!Ā
Shut the fuck up, you sociopathic trolls. Maybe think about the fact that your nation is the biggest polluter in the world and pipe the fuck down because this shit is majorly yāallās fault. So the least you could do is sit the fuck down and shut up.Ā
another hot take: a lot of societyās definition of femininity is defined by attraction to men, and conversely, societyās concept of masculinity is defined by a lack of attraction to men.Ā
i think this explains a few things - like how a lot of societyās hate for lesbians is based on lack of attraction to men while societyās hate for gay men is based on the presence of that attraction, obviously, but also i think it helps explain why bisexual men are invalidated as beingĀ ājust gayā (due to perceived gender nonconformity) and why bisexual women are invalidated is beingĀ ājust straightā (due to perceived gender conformity).Ā & i think thereās overlap with bi womenās attraction to women being perceived as a lack of attraction to men. (this isnāt to say that i think bi people are more or less oppressed than gay people, just that it stems from subtly different points)
i think this is also why gay/bi liberation can never succeed without trans liberation, because the root of homophobia is in a fear and hatred of that which is perceived as incorrectly performing gender. to act as though homophobia exists in a vacuum independent of transphobia is to ignore the root cause of homophobia
& itās also why the trend of gay and bi people trying to be as gender-conforming as possible toĀ āfit inā doesnāt help the community overall but instead shifts the target onto people who donāt fit into those boxes. and trans people can be guilty of this too, like with truscum/transmeds who prefer to fit themselves into the existing framework and pointing the finger at others, rather than denying the entire system
Me: i look good in this outfit
The voice of luigi pirandello in my head: ok but people will never see you the way you see yourself in this outfit because they already have an idea of a version of you you have no control over and that you can't change no matter what clothes you're wearing. Also, do you genuinely think you look good in these clothes or are you wearing these clothes because you want to present a version of yourself that is appealing to others but that does not reflect your true self?
this movie is so fucking creepy jesus fuck
Itās by Tim Burton, what did you honestly expect?
Actually, itās Henry Selick, who was the director of The Nightmare Before Christmas. The book was written by Neil Gaiman, though, and is farā¦farā¦.worse.
Sorry, Iām about to geek the hell out.
The movie is captivating, but the book is twenty kinds of terrifying, even now, ten years after I first read it. As disturbing as the movie may have been to some, the things Selick added really serve to cushion just how horrific the story really is.
First of all, the character of Wybie does not exist in the book. Coraline is facing all of this nearly alone, with her only help coming from the sly comments of the cat, a warning from the circus mice, and the stone given to her by her neighbor, presented with no comment but that it āmakes the unseen seen.ā
Second, the Other Parents are never quite as warm (and, dare I say, normal) as they are in the gifs above. Theyāre described as having paper-white skin and the Other Motherās hair is said to move on its own, and her long, red, claw-like nails donāt ease any uncertainty that she is absolutely, positively up to no good. The first time Coraline meets them, they (and the rest of the Others) seem to be playing roles (for whatever reason, Coraline does not seem to pick up on this), like they all know what to say and what to do and are simply waiting for Coraline to make her move in their terrifying play world. This is shown to be partly true when the Other Parents tell her they know sheāll be back soon after she refuses the buttons - this time, to stay.
Third, the Other Mother commits atrocities that really should not have been in a book for anyone not fully grown up. She physically deforms the world around Coraline to slow her progress in their game beyond any mild traps the movie portrays, and, instead of turning the Other Father into the wandering pumpkin-thing seen in the film, she simply ceases to use him and throws his body away in the cellar, leaving him to rot with whatever bit of sentience he has left. She begins to lose her touch, as Coraline gains the upper hand. Her world doesnāt just become a nightmare - it falls apart completely. No creepy but oddly cool bug furniture here, just the house that now appears to be a childās drawing. Whatever the Other Mother is (a beldame, but something tells me sheās much more ancient and powerful than that), she does not give half a hump about what she has to do to ensnare Coraline. Destroy the supporting characters of her twisted creation? Done. Allow herself to be dismembered to ruin Coralineās life in the normal world? Not even gonna bat an eyelash.
On a final, personal note, imagine eight year-old me, ignored by my parents, absorbed in the story and identifying with Coraline from the start. Imagine me finishing this bloodcurdling book and immediately thinking of my basement, where there is still a locked door that my grandmother swears up and down is nothing more than a storage room, but has not once in my (or my motherās) lifetime unlocked.
Can you see why this book still scares me?
Fun fact I learned from seeing neil gaiman speak: when he first wanted the book published, his editor said it was too scary. He suggested she read it to her young daughter, and then decide. So she did, and her daughter wasnāt afraid, and it was published. Years later, Gaiman was sitting next to that daughter at an event and told her this story, and she said āoh I was terrified I just didnāt want to tell my momā.
Coraline WAS too scary to be published, but exists anyway because a girl lied to her mother.
Black Mirrorās Rachel, Jack and Ashley Too episode makes me feel like Iāve watched some Robin Daggers story š
