So, during the White trailer, when Weiss does her ...'ultimate attack' thing on the armour, these are the symbols that appear on Myrtenaster. I'd kinda always assumed it said Myrtenaster because it looked like the right amount of letters, but I couldn't figure out the word that appeared first. Does anyone know what is says?
After some backwards reasoning through Scrabble hint websites, my best guess is Verist - One who subscribes to verism, which could mean:
(art, literature) Presenting common, everyday subjects, specifically eschewing the heroic or legendary.
(art) Synonym of verismo (“19th-century art movement”) - An artistic movement, from 19th-century Italian literature and opera, in which rural and everyday people and themes were treated in an often melodramatic manner
the theory that rigid representation of truth and reality is essential to art and literature, and therefore the ugly and vulgar must be included.
...which, like, I guess kinda fits with early RWBY intents with her character - tying Weiss to opera movements and having to face ugly truths (like her bigotry towards Faunus), but... it also feels like a bit of a reach, so if anyone can find a better answer, I'd love to hear it!
Sienna's emblem pulled a chameleon on tumblr dashboard. I had to click it to see it.
the pain of transparent images wheeze. but actually, why is her emblem white? her colour is orange.
literally two seconds, crwby. two seconds.
The colour Sienna may be orange, but looking at her design, I’m not sure CRWBY actually knows that. She’s all red, which is especially frustrating because even with MSpaint and two minutes, it takes so little orange to make orange pop against red and black
how do you feel about tai because i feel like crwby try to write him to be a good dad but genuinely dont know how? i genuinely dont know what theyre going for with tai?
i love aus focussing on qrow and tai co-parenting the girls because fanfic writers are, as a whole, better than crwby at writing.
First off anon thank you for this ask I’ve been hyper focusing on Deltarune again and this ask gives me the perfect opportunity to talk about it again (it’ll make sense I promise lolZ)
You know what I really like this idea a lot and it works so much better to balance out Tai disappearing emotionally for a bit and making him still a loving parent and it is such a simple and tiny fix vs having to overhaul so much.
I genuinely think they were going for what @loyal-to-the-end suggests. They just really don’t seem to have stuck the landing. Because I always assumed that Tai’s shutdown have been relatively short, because of how good Ruby and Yang’s relationship with him was. Before Burning The Candle, we have Ruby complaining that Yang is nagging her in a way that sounds “like Dad” and afterwards in Volume 2 both seem happy about his letter yet unsurprised that he’s going off somewhere; a single parent who has to work, which can definitely unintentionally make things tough for the kids and especially the eldest, but it’s also an understandable situation with no one really at fault per say. Then in Volume 3 & 4, he does seem like a good dad, there’s nothing to suggest otherwise.
It’s only once we get to Volume 5 and Yang’s speech in Alone Together that things seem off. But that’s also something that feels easy to brush away - as I definitely had without even realizing it until now - as how Yang felt alone more than her actually having raised Ruby. Especially because she says ‘Ruby couldn't even talk yet’ so Ruby was pretty young at the time (if Ruby’s can’t talk yet, she’s 2-ish making Yang 4); further emphasizing that it was probably a short period of time, but at a very formative age. Yet Yang having internalized that behavior's from Taiyang’s shutdown - no matter how long or brief - would make sense, especially coupled with the trauma of losing her mother; of course she’d be protective of Ruby, not want to let her out of her sight, and (with a child’s logic) take her along when running out of the house on a dangerous wild goose chase. Yang needing some sense of agency/control over the situation and projecting that onto keeping Ruby safe.
However, RWBY does none of the heavy lifting to explain that. It’s just the assumption I had been making with the pieces given. Any other assumption would be equally as valid and I guess I can now see why others had assumed he was a bad/absent dad. But, as is the case with the vast majority of RWBY, it would have been laughably easy to fix/clarify ALL of that with one of two small changes, or even both.
The first would be in Volume 4, have Taiyang talk to Yang about how she’s feeling and mention his own (continued) struggle with depression. I mean, Yang’s V4 arc is lackluster in so many ways, but that’s another story. I don’t think we need a definite ‘he shut down for this much time’, but just something to imply it was only a little while, may Yang feeling frustrated that she’s not making more progress yet that HE recovered by now so why can’t she? (Probably makes the most sense post putting on the prosthetic, having a flashback and feeling like this is a setback?) Maybe Taiyang bringing up that he still has bad days, that recovery isn’t a straight path, things that helped him recover, etc. It makes more sense for Yang to know that about Tai, but people aren’t the best at helping themselves, so him having to prompt her still make sense.
Secondly, changing Yang’s V5 dialogue from:
I don't think you know what it's like to be left. You have a giant family, recitals to perform at, dinners to attend. I didn't have any of that. My mom left me. Ruby's mom left too. Tai was always busy with school and Ruby couldn't even talk yet. I had to pick up the pieces. I had to keep things together. Alone.
To:
I don't think you know what it's like to be left. You have a giant family, recitals to perform at, dinners to attend. I didn't have any of that. My mom left me. Ruby’s mom left too. Qrow’s always flitted in and out of our lives, always had another mission to go on. I knew it was important, but I never knew if he’d come back, or- if he’d finally stay. Dad was... I know he tried his best. I know, alright? I’m not stupid. I’m not ...selfish. I know he made as much time for us as he could. He was the one who taught me to fight, to-- but he- it’s just, felt like he was so busy with school or missions or-- everything! And Ruby’s my baby sister. She needed me. I couldn’t let her feel like-- I had to pick up the pieces. I had to keep things together. Alone.
Why yes, Yang does make a lot of excuses for Tai in this version. However, they are very defensive excuses that demonstrates Yang has struggled with this for a while. That she wanted more attention, knew why Tai was busy and felt guilty (selfish/stupid) for wanting more of his time anyway: a normal emotional response that you know isn’t 100% logical, but you can’t help feeling and aren’t wrong for feeling. This way it puts much more emphasis on Yang’s emotional response, emphasizing that she felt responsible rather than necessarily was responsible for Ruby.
Also, just whilst I was there I wanted to mention Qrow coming and going from her life too, because it’s weird how much RWBY pretends that he is only Ruby’s uncle.
Some colour explorations with my favourite boys
I wanted to try adding more grey to James, since he’s meant to be Ironwood. I think 12 ended up working best; the blue on the shoulders helps tie the look together more/looks more balanced to me and the palest grey avoided overselling the blue. I like the grey centre conceptually, but I don’t think a solid grey works properly there - maybe if the pattern from Due Process was repeated across the fabric instead? Regardless, I really miss the little bits of yellow in James’ Beacon & Volume 4 designs.
Paint refusing to fill tool on Qrow aside, I’m much more satisfied where his colours ended up - 10 is my favourite, but I think a few of these would work. With Qrow the aim was to get rid of the unnecessary brown and emphasise his red over the grey, no matter how much I like the boys matching. I like 10 because it’s more red than the brown of his other screenshot but less bright than the cape option. Also, having the red central helps avoid losing his silhouette in the cape. I think 10 works a bit more than 12, because the burgundy/purple that was originally in the centre helps pull out the blue of his trousers whilst also pushing the red/making his eyes pop more.
What do you guys think? Which is your favourite? Any ideas how I could have improved these?
this was brought up to my friends but I'm weighing on it anyway. for a show that deems color as important, why is maria so... dull???
first off, mexico is known for our flashy colors and our festive culture. we're known for our holidays and celebrations and traditions for a reason.
second, maria is based off of dia de los muertos. this holiday isn't dark and dreary and depressing. the whole point of it is to celebrate life and death, to invite our loved ones to visit. this is the way people dress on this holiday:
so why isn't maria in loud colors? hell, why isn't she associated to marigolds, one of our staple flowers of this holiday? even if she keeps the faded blue, why not have marigolds be a bright contrast to her dark outfit??
again, for a show that claims color is important, why are half our characters so dull and desaturated? and why especially maria?
it just feels like laziness to me. it feels like they couldn't put in the effort to do a tiny bit of research on this holiday that they made as her allusion. it's not hard to google dia de los muertos and see what it's really about beyond sugar skulls.
Okay, definitely a VERY rough draft (not even 10 minutes in Paint 3D, ‘cause tablet decided to go on strike valid) but, here is an attempt:
... no comment on my ‘marigolds’, circles are hard (which is also why I abandoned the young Maria’s top skirt, but regardless I think that would warrant a simpler pattern and/or to be the blues from her sleeve patterns to avoid too much clutter/being too loud, especially given it’s a purely action scene, but idk).
Otherwise, all I did was colour picking the blue from her collar/underdress(?). because gold on the bottom frill made her look too bottom heavy. Tho looking at it now, I should probably have also gone over her corset(?) lacing with the gold too, to pull the colour through her design.
I didn’t want to add too much colour to older Maria, because when she talks about how she gave up, it feels like she would have lost some of the vibrancy (her blues are greyer than young Maria already), but I still wanted the gold on the underside/second layer of skirt/whatever the solid stripe under the ruffles is supposed to be.
In stage blocking (whether theatre, film, or tv), moving around a desk is 101 baby's 1st dramatic tension trick; it's about power dynamics & authority. We're in James' office: his desk separates him from RWBY as trust breaks down. Excellent. Salem does her party trick & James backs away. Solid. Against the windows to keep authority over RWBY whilst losing ground to Salem, right? Nope. Out from behind the desk into the open, evoking physical vulnerability, where Ruby could reach him emotionally!
Hey anon! I honestly did not know that but that is very fascinating to learn about! I actually decided to rewatch the scene and it's very interesting to watch! Because we know the writers decide every motion and where to place every character for each scene so analyzing how they decide to place and move the characters around the scene can tell a lot about what the writers are thinking with that in mind. I put it below the cut because it gets kind of long. But interestingly I noticed that once James steps out from behind the desk he never goes back behind the desk, he remains out from behind it in a way remaining physically vulnerable and it’s actually Ruby that goes behind the desk.
Yup, yup. It’s one of the basic building blocks in theatre, because every drama classroom has easy access to tables and little else, because not only does it create a physical barrier, desks are one of the easiest status symbols: a headmaster’s desk is their position of power, even more so if you are also a general sending out orders.
The example my drama teacher always used was imagine an argument between character A and B. Character A raises their voice, Character B retreats backward. Okay, B is clearly afraid. However, Character A raises their voice, Character B retreats behind a table. Character B is afraid enough to create a physical obstacle to stop A from reaching them. It’s not always that extreme or blatant, but that’s the most basic form of how stage blocking establishes power dynamics.
So, RWBY Headmasters and the use of tables/desks around them a rough and dirty guide, because even with the cut this got far too long and I do not have the patience to double check every episode for stage blocking so we’re just working with the ones that I can remember ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ .

They/Them
ironstrange + tv tropes
— Neil Gaiman, The Books of Magic
Hello. I jist finished all, I mean all, your IronStrange works. I so love them! Can I make a little request? Just a little prompt. What if Tony doesn't know about Stephen's astral projecting and they just started dating. He was thinking of startling him but Stephen didn't respond so he started panicking and thought something wrong is happening. I dunno. I just think that will be so cute and I immediately thought of your writing style. It's okay tho if you're not up to it. Thank you for all your amazing works! 💚
As with last time; I don’t usually take requests but it’s been a while since the last one came in so i decided what the heck - also I run on flattery and you’ve fed me. 💕💕💕
I’m not sure if this is what you had in mind but I hope it’s enjoyable either way. Also - because why not - I imagine this as the same universe as the previous request. A sequel, if you will.
Stepping through the doors of the sanctum, more often than not, still had him swallowing back anxiety - if not outright panic.
It wasn't the opening of the door that freaked him out - he usually pretended it was just a mechanism, opening to the recognition of his face. What bothered him still was the shift in the air as he approached - the sentience of the old building as it sensed him, reaching out onto the pavement and enveloping him like phagocytosis, checking his presence before it allowed its doors to open. It only got worse the moment he stepped inside, the force wrapping around him and compressing his skin. He still tried to ignore it as best as he could, could feel his body tense against the pressure as it tried to push back.
Despite having been friends with Strange for months - and currently dating him for almost five weeks - he still wasn't fond of magic.
He trusted Stephen, trusted his soft but trembling hands, the smile around his eyes, and the twirl of his hair - trusted his authority over the mystical world. What he didn't trust was the mystical world itself.
Stephen, who knew this, usually came down to greet him the moment he arrived - whether or not his presence had been previously announced - which is why Tony found it odd that he wasn't there now. It was date night, after all.
The heels of his shoes - which were only slightly above average height and that, along with the padded souls on the inside, gave him an extra inch that no one needed to know about - against the wooden floors echoed around the empty foyer. The sound bounced off the old walls and ricocheted back towards him, putting the hair on his arms on end.
I think the Avengers cinematic series lost it’s appeal pretty much the same second I realized the directors were never going to make the team be friends
I like Tony because he’s chaos incarnate, acting on every impulse. Most of them turn out good, some of them not so good. He sees his past for what it was, and maybe he refuses to forgive himself. Same. Maybe he hates his upbringing. Same. Maybe he wants more than anything to atone. Same.
I like Stephen because he’s careful, meticulous, thinking through everything. This usually serves him, but sometimes it bites back. He sees the future and all it’s possibilities. They keep him up and invade his dreams. Same. Maybe he wants to keep people safe as an extension of his original calling. Same. Maybe he feels like he owes it to the world after all his selfishness. Same.
They’re so aware of their flaws, but also not. They confront them but they don’t. Not head on. They mitigate the worst affects of their character defects. Try to keep from hurting others but never care for keeping themselves safe.
Maybe I get that. Maybe I want them to just find happiness in each other.
just learned stephen only eats alien food in the comics
