I WOULD PAY TEN TIMES AS MUCH FOR CHOCOLATE IF IT MEANT REDUCING THE AMOUNT OF SLAVES IN THE WORLD? HOW IS THIS ANY KIND OF PROBLEM.Ā
good news, you can! the companyās called Tonyās Chocolonely and their entire purpose is to make slave-free chocolate and reform the chocolate industry.

Whole Foods carries it. If you donāt want to support an Amazon-owned company, World Market carries it. You can also buy it directly from the company.Ā
Itās the best chocolate Iāve ever hadĀ and itās 100% slave free. Tonyās Chocolonely works really hard to push for transparency within the chocolate industry and actually has and is following an action plan to eliminate slavery within cocoa production. Theyāre good people who make good chocolate.

This is super important! Slave child labor is used in many many cocoa farms from big name companies like Nestle and Dove. Here is a good link discussing it:Ā http://www.foodispower.org/slavery-chocolate/Ā .
Ā And here is an easy score card to see who the worst offenders are/who to avoid most:Ā https://www.greenamerica.org/end-child-labor-cocoa/chocolate-scorecardĀ
Hey whatās the weirdest, morally neutral parenting hack thing you do? For us our 2.5 year old refuses to take any kind of medicine so we mix her meds in sugar free root beer and call it magic root beer
i didnāt wanna eat breakfast as a kid so my mom got cocoa pebbles and called it āmagic cerealā because it made little crackling noises and turned the milk chocolate. it was great and all but i ended up only eating THAT cereal for idk 12 years. then i briefly became a āhealth freakā and abandoned cocoa pebbles and havenāt eaten them since.
people really need to stop usingĀ āharm reductionā to meanĀ āpressuring people to Stop Doing The BehavioursāĀ
harm reduction is like. when someone engages in cutting, and instead of this they now snap a rubber band on their wrist to reduce the harm.
Harm reduction started as a term for like. When youre addicted to heroin and need clean needles and get some thru community outreach or have a space to dispose of your sharps.
Its sanitizing the blade you use to cut with and not using rusty metal or broken glass. Its using drugs as a sedative instead of to die. Its whatever it takes to see you through the next day at your lowest low. Often with emphasis on community outreach and resources. Its safe doses and sharps bins and narcan.
Itās also educating people - especially helping people know the effects of what theyāre doing/taking, making sure they know the signs of an emergency and what to do in one. Itās giving people all the information and options and resources you can, so at the end of the day, they face less harm than they would have otherwise.
Because people are going to struggle and do risky things. Just saying Dont Do That isnāt going to support people with serious mental illness or substance use disorders. It isnāt going to materially change their lives. It isnāt compassionate. Itās just going to annoy them at best, and put them into an even more dangerous situation at worst (ex: shame/guilt fueling harmful behavior, trying to go cold turkey, etc.).
Fun fact: Cheetahs only attack prey that runs
jesus that is good to know.
Yup, thatās the point you just stay still and let it do whatever the fuck it wants that doesnāt involved you getting eaten.Ā
REALLY FUN FACT for big cats cheetahs are fucking docile as shit
my grandfather ran a cheetah sanctuary in south africa and heād just lie with them and sleep among them and theyād rub against him and chirp at him theyāre big fucking babies
Another Fun Fact: Cheetahs are incredibly nervous animals. One of the (many) reasonās theyāre going extinct is that cheetahs are so sensitive and nervous, some of them are literally too nervous to breed. Others will breed, but stress themselves out so much, theyāll lose their cubs. So zoos with breeding programs had to figure out how to make cheetahs comfortable enough to first of all, get laid and secondly - not spazz themselves into miscarrying. So whatād they do? They gave the cheetahās their very own Service Dogs! The dogs make them feel safe, protected and secure!
AJHHHHFDDGHH SO PRECIOUS
this post just got so much better
THIS IS OFFICIALLY MY FAVOURITE POST
this is emmett and cullen they are best friends
This is the greatest thing Iāve seen all day.
Dogs are truly angels.
so THATS why these cheetah ft dogo pics exist
the anxiety cat
Also! Cheetahs are not in fact classified as big cats, they are simply very large lesser cats, due to the fact that they purr, meow, chirp, and cannot roar. Also many cheetahs have learned to recognize wildlife photographers are friends and not foes, so they will just come up to people and be friendly occasionally as pictured at the top of the chain. Some will even leave their Cubs with photographers to look after while they hunt. So. Yeah. Cheetahs are great
this works because cheetahs are actually fairly social animals, and they look to members of their group for context on how worried they should be about any given Situation. but since cheetahs are also nervous social animals, they can work each other into an anxiety spiral pretty easily over things like ābeing in an enclosed habitatā and āthereās a guy over thereā.
so by introducing a dog as a member of the group, the cheetahs will now look to the dog for context clues on how worried they should be! and the dog Is Not Worried At All, Thanks, so the cheetahs think everything must be chill even if they were personally unsure about it, and they stop being so freaked out about literally everything.
AITA for lying to my dog about food being 'spicy?'
A while back I taught my dog what spicy foods are (by letting her sniff them and saying "Uh oh! Spicy!") and she figured out that it means it'll smell/taste bad and she immediately loses interest. It was initially an accident but it became really handy in getting her to leave food alone if it might hurt her.
Recently though I've started saying "Uh oh! Spicy!" about any food I don't want her to eat. If she's sitting and staring at me eating a regular non-spicy snack and I don't want to share, I'll tell her it's spicy so she'll stop begging for it. She believes me 100% of the time. She does have a 'leave it' command that she obeys as well, but she always acts so sad whenever I tell her to 'leave it' and it's something she wants.
I feel a little bad because she's an older dog (10y/o) and maybe I SHOULD be sharing my snacks with her, but sometimes a man's gotta enjoy his food in peace without a little creature gazing longingly at him the entire time and crying like the world's soggiest beast.
Included is a picture of her making her very best begging face so that everyone can accurately judge how evil I am for lying to her.
AITA?

If you want to read an academic article that's behind a paywall just email the author and ask politely if they will send you the article. Most academics will be thrilled that you want to read their work and will gladly send it to you.
PSA
If you like the work of an academic author, and they're still alive, buying their book can be a nice way to bump their income a little bit.
Libgen rocks, and no student really makes enough money to buy all the books for grad school or even sometimes undergrad, but buying some books can still be a good option.
