Goblin : 10th Anniversary Trip
we’ve gone from the yee haw agenda to the ye olde thot programme
Ah yes, those slutty slutty Landsknecht shorts:
The bare-legged / hot-pants look was fairly common, since the whole point about being a Landsknecht (or Reislaufer, their Swiss equivalent) was to look outrageous.
Most period illustrations of Landsknechts are black-and-white woodcuts…
…though in 1905 a book called „Geschichte des Kostüms“ - History of Costume - assembled a bunch of black-and-whites and added colour.
If they look excessively gaudy, they’re not, because these next prints were coloured in-period by an artist called Erhard Schön, and it’s fair to assume he was representing what he saw.
In short - or in shorts - those reenactor costumes are spot on. :->
Something mentioned nowhere in this post that I have just learned from googling: these guys were not Ye Olde Medieval Dandies. They were 15th-16th century mercenaries. Pretty hardcore, too. They were exempt from sumptuary laws (ie the rules that said you couldn’t wear certain colours or cloth or styles) and apparently their response to that was technicolour thotpants.
I was complaining earlier about costuming in both “historical” settings and in fantasy/scifi. This is exactly what I mean when I say a knowledge of actual history would enrich the conceptual creative palette for things like “hardcore mercenary outfits.”
Caroline Rhea as Hilda Spellman | Sabrina the Teenage Witch (1996–2003)
i think "turning into a pumpkin" is my new favorite way to articulate the state of things when I am at a function and very overstimulated and it feels like my brain is melting. it's like no i can't be a person anymore i have to leave i'm turning into the pumpkin. the time is up yeah i gotta go. yeah see u later. pumpkin time.
i don't know how to say this without being all 'kids these days' BUT kids do seem more sheltered nowadays regarding reading. all the kids' chapter books are called something like 'sir poops-a-lot and the massive fart' and people are absolutely vehement that a teenager can't read wicked because of its (nonexistent) smut and on threads right now people are seriously having a debate about whether 12 year olds can read ya books. when i was in year seven reading flowers in the attic was a rite of passage and now people are afraid of preteens knowing about the existence of sex.
The way the language has gotten so much more simplistic in middle grade books is insane to me. My friend and I were reading the first chapter of Goose Girl and I realized it would be edited to hell to make it short attention span friendly.
Nevermind the shit in Animorphs and Warrior Cats! It’s good for kids to read about difficult topics. Being a kid is difficult. Difficult things happen to you whether or not you’re allowed to read about it.
In one of the Percy Jackson myth books, which are Greek myths narrated by Percy, the book discusses how Poseidon raped Demeter. Percy basically looks directly into the camera and says “if something like this happens to you, please tell someone.”
What are kids with high reading levels supposed to read other than adult books? I read Interview with a Vampire at like 11 and it didn’t traumatize me. I just went “oh wow yikes. With his mother?!! okay moving on”
month starting on a monday we have no excuse guys lets get to work and lock the fuck in
yk its actually very chic and avant garde to start on tuesday the second
many claim theres nothing more subversive and revolutionary than starting on wednesday the third
there are simply no words in the english language that can describe starting on thursday the fourth. thats how iconic it is
choosing to start on friday the fifth. i just think its very inspiring
Gutted to learn that the incredible Anthony Head passed away. I need everyone to see thos incredible edit of him

Insensitivity reader to make sure that your characters are ignorant assholes in the ways that make the most sense for the characterization you're trying to achieve
Just get the biggest douchebag in your writing group to tell you what he would have done.
ok no but we really need this service. I read a horror novel whose protagonist was a gay british aristocrat studying classics at oxford and going to Tibet in 1900. And the first roughly third of the book was assuring the audience he was from a woke christian denomination but didn't believe in god and thought that was silly and also his lower class manservant/ boyfriend/ childhood best friend was the top and so he never thought to try and order his BF around. So he's like, woke in a 21st century way. Not racist, not misogynistic, thinks that the classics are so droll for not being more about asia, isn't doing really unethical sex tourism in the east like a LOT of gay aristocrats did in the empire. 1900. it is 1900. He's woke in 1900. the book is about some freaky shit going down in Tibet in 1900 with a british aristo and he's woke. aaaahhhhh!!!!! It's like that post with Eric Cartman giving his fucking pronouns as he/they
