Early morning foggy Gdansk, Poland.
the fact that at the council of elrond glorfindel is like “just throw the ring into the ocean” is so funny to me after reading the silmarillion just because it feels like the subtext is him being like “yeah let’s try maglor’s patented and tested method: Just Yeet The Accursed Fucking Thing Into The Water”
#in fairness they do do literally the other fëanorion approved method of magical item disposal #glorfindel: we could do like maglor and throw it in the ocean? #elrond: no we’re doing like maedhros and jumping into a volcano via @lesbianlanval
*at the council of Elrond*
Elrond: Alright, everyone listen up. We elves have 4 methods of dealing with Accursed Fucking Objects™, as demonstrated by my four parents.
Number 1, the Elwing Method or Mom Method. This is to hide the accursed fucking thing away and keep it safe and close. This is highly not reccommended if the object can take over its user like the ring can, and Sauron will be searching for it, so this method is out of the question.
Number 2, the Earendil Method or the Dad #1 Method. This is, send the accursed fucking thing across the sea or to some higher power. According to Mithrandir, the Valar will not take it and Tom Bombadil wants nothing to do with it, so this is also out of the question.
Number 3 is the Maglor Method, or Dad #2 Method. This is to yeet the accursed fucking thing into the ocean. In this case, it is not a good idea as Ulmo will be very upset and we will still have to contend with Sauron.
The last method is the Maedhros Method or the Dad #3 Method. This method is to yeet yourself into a volcano while holding the accursed fucking thing, and also the method we will be using. You will not have to yeet yourself into the volcano, only the ring, don’t worry, Frodo.
Those…those really are the four methods aren’t they?
@procrastinationonvacation how dare you hide this in the tags
Listen, Boromir knows 1 (one) ancient elven story and damn it, he’s going to ride that horse until it dies.
“We chose the term “asexual” to describe ourselves because both “celibate” and “anti-sexual” have connotations we wished to avoid: the first implies that one has sacrificed sexuality for some higher good, the second that sexuality is degrading or somehow inherently bad. “Asexual”, as we use it, does not mean “without sex” but “relating sexually to no one”. This does not, of course, exclude masturbation but implies that if one has sexual feelings they do not require another person for their expression. Asexuality is, simply, self-contained sexuality.”
— The Asexual Manifesto, Lisa Orlando and Barbara Getz, 1972
Note the date, people:
That’s 1972
29 years before AVEN was started online,
and 47 years before the present.
And that’s only the date that Manifesto was written, so asexuals as members of a community must have existed at least some time before that.
So, no: we are not just Tumblr trenders. Get out of here with that.
supporting my asexual friends and foes by rebbloging this
It’s 50 years this month since the first version of the Asexual Manifesto was written. Aces have been writing about our experiences under this name for at least half a century. We are not an internet fad.
54 years as of 2026 and we are still here!

Hey so an insane new dinosaur got announced??
This is Haolong dongi, a new species of iguanodontian ornithopod found covered in what is basically,,, hedgehog quills??
The fossil is a stunningly preserved skeleton from China that includes evidence of hard armour scales on the tail (like in the much smaller Kulindadromeus), and a coat of spines along its neck and back! The name appropriately means "spiky dragon".
Not only is a spiny iguanodont wild on its own (this individual is over 2 metres long and is a juvenile, other ornithopods with quill-like structures are much smaller), these spines also appear to be an entirely new skin structure? They're apparently not feathers or scales, but a secret third thing.
The publication is available to read here!

I feel like it would be a funny idea as a polish person to read a fantasy book in czech. Like ooo secret fairy language i almost understand and have to guess around and decode how mysterious. Mysterious creatures they are, those beer-loving atheist fairies.
Recent experimental archaeology at sites across Scandinavia and the British Isles reveals surprising evidence about Viking armor: rather than relying solely on chainmail or iron helmets, many warriors wore heavy layers of woolen cloth, often soaked in seawater and dried repeatedly, which created surprisingly robust armor.
Historical reconstructions confirmed that these salt-hardened wool garments could effectively absorb and deflect arrows and slashing weapons. The seawater soaking process hardened fibers into a tough, lightweight shield, far easier to produce and more affordable than metal armor.
These woolen armors have been described in Norse sagas, though historians previously considered them mere poetic exaggerations. Modern tests, however, indicate genuine practicality. This discovery challenges the typical image of Vikings, highlighting their ingenious resourcefulness in armor crafting. Lightweight, weather-resistant, and readily available, wool became the unsung defensive hero of many Viking battles.

I don't know how to feel about booktok. On one hand I'm happy that women(i mean people in general, but let's say women for popular beliefs and stereotype's sake) are engaging and enjoying with all sorts of genres and particularly openly accepting erotica as something they enjoy but on the other hand i really don't like this generalised notion that all women only read romance or erotica. No one reduces a man's reading tastes and hobbies to one thing alone but why can't women enjoy different genres? It's kind of annoying that even women themselves are making reels and stuff pretty much insinuating that if you see a woman with a book it's probably smut. And so many men are also backing off of booktok and bookstagram to gain a female following and pretty much making a joke, chuckling to themselves like 'women☕! all they read is smut'. I don't believe that smut is a bad thing or that women shouldn't read it but we can like a whole variety of things. Why do people necessarily need to go on the extreme spectrums of things?
Give it up to Cobra Bubbles regaining his composure and going back to business with Nani after having Stitch randomly chuck a heavy ass book at his face like that.
He probably was fuming by the time he got into his car after his shades became a casualty of the attack.
"Thus far you have been adrift in the sheltered harbor of my patience" is the most amazing line what the fluff. We don't just forget how clever the screenplay was comedy wise and profound emotionally, it often did both at once my goodness

When I was a kid, my mother used to make a point of teaching me and my brother outside of schooling. She came from an incredibly progressive family, and has always been a big believer that ignorance always leads to a lot of the evil we see in the world
Basically, we’d do…what I guess you call additional study, after school? Which might sound tedious or bad, but we loved it, even my brother who didn’t enjoy school or academics and had a serious learning disability.
We used to use some old encyclopaedias we thrifted, but nowadays you could use Wiki or something similar. We’d open the book, choose a random topic, and spend the next month or so learning about it.
My mother would often have it so we had a few different things we were learning about in month: a place/culture, a religion, a historical event, a person, etc. My brother and I had those cheap, A4 spiral books, and we’d go to the public library and research, write down little notes, draw diagrams. We’d do activities like paint maps of new places or new animals we’d learned about.
I’ve been getting back into this again, and I cannot stress enough how enriching it is. It’s easier now with the internet available, but I still have an A4 book I jot little notes in. It’s alleviated a lot of boredom and restlessness. I can highly recommend.
