Ilyukhina, Yáo, and Grace live and everything is amazing and they live on Erid with Rocky and take turns teaching the pebbles.

AU where Grace while yes still being the first to interact with astrophage doesn't speak up at all to Stratt and ends up back in the classroom. He still enjoys teaching but his students are bringing up the star a hell of a lot more and its eating away at Grace. A small part of him still wanted to help study it but he doesn't have the guts to call Stratt back after his break down infront of all those people and Stratt included. So he doesnt, he hears about the hail mary mission from the news, gets a new set of students the next few years who are all equally just as curious about astrophage as the last. When the news breaks out that the main science specialist and his replacement died a week before launch and how they brought on a new one, Grace knows somthing is wrong. He KNOWS that the new scientists won't have enough time to learn about astrophage but again he does nothing and says nothing. The mission is sent off and the world starts to get colder. Do the others survive in space? Who knows. Did they even learn enough about astrophage let alone breed enough for the mission now that Grace wasn't helping? How could we know? Grace is just a teacher to a classroom of students slowly loosing its attendance.

And Rocky? If the same thing happens where Yáo, Ilyukhina and whoever else was taken in place of Dubois and Shapiro where all to die in their induced coma then Rocky probably dies in space alone after hundreds of years with only his ship and the Hail mary that made it to Tau Ceti but only with three corpses and four empty Beatles who never saw use.

I'm now just imagining Ilyukhina and Yáo's ghosts watching Ryland throughout the whole of the Hail Mary mission.

I think it would be funny and angsty and sweet to see the whole story from their perspectives as ghosts watching the whole adventure.

I feel like we forget Rocky VOLUNTEERED for the suicide mission despite having a mate and a fullfiling life on Erid and because of that is even more of an Outlier of Eridians than Grace is of humans. We're judging Eridians based on their equivalent of Olesya "I want to do a lethal injection with a little bit of heroin" Ilyukhina.

call me too woke but parts of the fandom automatically making (mostly when its the human designs of) rocky really masculine and adrian really feminine with zero androgyny or genderqueer or anything feels icky

Eridian!BloodMary and Human!Adrian & Rocky

Where Rocky × Grace is almost the same thing, except Grace is an Eridian who doesn't have a mate and whines a lot about his peebles. [ Grace still went against his will | Rocky went because of the heavy heavy heavy threats against Adrian]

But Adrian is a human who loses their husband after Stratt send Rocky without their real consent. In despair, Adrian joins an alternative mission that is going to Tau Ceti. This alternative mission is funded by Eden, a private company owned by a group of billionaires. If Hail Mary carries three astronauts, Rosary has it eighteen people.

The plan of Rosary is the same of the Hail Mary, a group of people that are going to pu in a coma until Tau Ceti and then try to discover how to kill Astrophage.

Adrian doesn't know if he will ever see their husband again, but knowing that they died because of the same mission brings him a little peace.

In Hail Mary, only Rocky survives, and he doesn't nothing.

In Rosary, eleven people die in the coma, four finally wake up, and Adrian and two people don't wake up at the right time.

When Adrian wakes up, the rest of the crew explains things for them:

First, the only pilot alive is now Captain Ava.

Second, because of a miscalculation, they are not in Tau Ceti but in a far galaxy that they called "Rapture" because all stars died because of Astrophage.

Third, the only thing ""alive""/visible in this system is a moon that has a "Blood Ocean" that scientists believe to be a high concentration of Astrophage. And happily they tell Adrian that they are going to send someone down there.

Adrian got really scared that maybe they are gonna be the subject, but the scientists said that they found the perfect subject, and as a biology scientist, Adrian is gonna love!

They take Adrian to a cell and then show him a rock...

" Our subject is a Dark Rock with metal chunks "

The Crew Laught a lot, and Adrian just looked confused

" Simon, wake up, stupid fucking rock " Judas, a old engineer, use some kinda of mechanism inside the cell to poke the rock.

So the Rock "Simon" finally moved while emitted harmonical whines that looked painful. The creature looked hurt and afraid.

" It needs an Amonia atmosphere to live, and by our experiments, it can survive to 140 degrees, so the concentrate Astrophage will not hurt them so bad..."

What?

"It may look stupid, but this species may be very intelligent. We found this little guy in a spaceship alone, its species may be great in engineering, but they didn't know enough to survive space"

Adrian feels this deep connection with Simon, so while the scientists build a Iron Lung ,Adrian is trying to translate what Simon says and give him resources to escape from Rosary.

The first time Simon is sent to the "Blood Ocean," he gets extremely sick, and the scientists get super happy in doing experiments with him

Adrian gets really really really afraid because talking with Simon is very clear that exposure to those levels of Astrophage is extremely dangerous and can cause mental damage.

Simon was hearing voices and having hallucinations, and his shell has kinda burnt.

Adrian gets really scared, then plans on freeing Simon.

BUT

They get caught, and the crew send both of them to the blood Moon. Simon is so afraid for his human because he knows the submarine is fucking broke and leaking so much. Concentrate Astrophage is extremely toxic to all living creatures, but human skin is more sensitive.

Simon absoves most of the leaks to save Adrian and the same time, he screams for help in the make shift radio he made with metal scraps that Adrian gave him.

His cries is heard by Grace, who uses the Hail Mary to save them both <3

Simon had lost one of his legs and has several Astrophage poison.

Adrian has a lot of burns from Amonia and from the blood.

But both are alive, and Adrian can finally see their husband

And Rosary? I genuinely think Ava discover a way to use the ocean as fuel, and after dropping Adrian, the Rosary just goes to another system.

Sundaydriver both being autistic is very important to me!!!

- When Driver and Lars first met, Driver was unaware of his touch aversion and just thought he wasn’t a touchy person.. and when Driver one day had attempted to put a hand on his shoulder or hold his hand Driver learnt the hard way about it (Lars flinched so hard and nearly fell over because he didn’t see it coming)

- out of the two of them Driver is the quieter one, and Lars doesn’t mind at all!! When Gus and Karin see Lars LEADING their conversations they were so stunned.. Lars usually feels very awkward in conversations because he feels like he’s being misunderstood a lot, but with Driver he doesn’t feel that way after awhile

- Driver has a rotation of songs he likes to listen to in the car, the same 10-20 and it rarely changes.. he doesn’t like abrupt changes so when he adds a new song to the rotation it’s quite an event lol, Lars will sometimes give him song suggestions that he thinks driver would like!! (that’s usually how a new song gets added)

- Lars doesn’t like changing activities very suddenly, so when they go somewhere they’ll sit in the car for a song or two before actually going there

- Driver doesn’t like other people holding his jacket and/or gloves, (mostly the jacket) and almost always has it on his person!! But when he sees how attached Lars is to his blanket, he trusts Lars to treat his jacket with the same respect! So if he needs someone to hold it for whatever reason, it’s always Lars

- Driver and Lars work on Lars’s touch aversion together, the gloves make it easier :) when Lars is at a point where he isn’t in pain anymore (and more importantly, enjoys certain physical touches) Driver will sometimes get Lars to wear his gloves so he can kiss his knuckles

- Driver is quite sensitive to certain smells, he will only buy particular kinds of soaps, Lars makes sure to always get the right kind!! Driver is EXTRA particular about how his jacket is washed, only he does that (by hand)

- Lars doesn’t like driving, he used to only drive when it was necessary and it would overwhelm him sometimes :( Driver obviously drives him everywhere once he finds out, even if Lars didn’t mind it Driver would prefer to drive him places anyways

That’s all I have for now.. I may come up with just general headcanons for these two as well!!

**Spoilers for Project Hail Mary**

I like to think that once Earth receives the beetles and fixes the sun, they then send another beetle to Erid full of seeds, food, spices, and other care package stuff for Grace.

At that point, they won't know he's still alive, as far as they know, he probably starved to death by then. But Stratt insists they send it anyway. If nothing else, it can be a gift for their newly discovered neighbors, the Eridians. Afterall, what's more friendly than sharing food?

The Eridian scientists study the contents of the care package. It's full of shelf-stable human food that they do their best to clone/replicate for Grace. There are also some seeds that store well for the years of travel they experienced. Radish, lettuce, tomato, beans, etc. (Potatoes would be a great callback to "The Martian")

The Eridians are absolutely delighted to observe Grace grow a little garden of Earth plants. Rocky, Adrian, and any of their kids big enough to fit in xenonite EVA suits help him pollinate plants with little paintbrush-like tools. Grace keeps a few plants in pots so he can easily move them around and show them to his students.
