On Our Backs 2002 Calendar, December, shot by Michele Serchuk
it's only recently I learned that the 'mog' part of 'mogging' stands for 'male of group' (shortened from 'alpha male of group'). so the definition of 'mogging' as like, being deemed superior to someone else in some way or another is using manhood as synonymous with relational superiority.
this was obvious subtext anyway (the whole ideology in which the term emerges is a male supremacist one) but learning it's so explicit and unambiguous was kind of surprising. doubly so since this term is already starting the process of integrating into general usage outside this subculture, first as "ironic," then as decontextualized ("it's just outshining someone!"), and eventually probably as sincere.
casual reminder that it is probably best to not adopt the misogynistic concept of conveying hierarchical superiority in interpersonal contexts as "funny internet slang."
and I've said this before but if you are negotiating specific acts in a sexual/kinky situation, there is very little confusion because the meaning is typically clear from context. if someone says they're a "rope top" I am not going to assume they want to penetrate someone with rope; likewise they are not going to call themself a "rope dom" because that is stupid and may add unintentional implications (I would read this maybe as "someone who uses tying specifically as an element of domination" whereas "rope top" would simply mean "person doing the tying," which could have additional d/s elements but also could be "person in your bedroom tying you up following instructions from a book while you both giggle").

Thank you for your partecipation.
sometimes people experiencing psychosis and/or mania will come up to you on the street and talk in confusing or upsetting ways. your job is to either have a regular human-to-human conversation with that person or politely leave. your job is not to call 911. do not call 911. you might kill that person if you call 911.
I don't even have the energy to screenshot and respond to your tags- what the actual fuck is wrong with you? "the cops are scared and rightfully so" "mental health calls are the scariest for cops" OH so this isn't about the safety of psychotic & manic people this is about piggy feelings?
and no, actually, this is not USA specific and no, actually, people from other countries should not ignore this post. police violence and sanism weren't invented in the US and they are certainly not unique to here. if you (or anyone) thinks that this bullshit doesn't happen elsewhere then you are not listening.
cops r Some Guy with a Gun
do we want Some Guy with a Gun in this situation? answer is usually "NO"
This is legitimately useful reframing. A while ago I started replacing the word "cop" in my vocabulary with "a man with a gun." It really puts things into perspective.
This homeless person is making me uncomfortable. Should I call [a man with a gun]?
My neighbor is having a loud party. Should I get [a man with a gun] involved?
There are some teenagers skateboarding. Do you think [a man with a gun] would get rid of them for me?
It makes it very clear what you're saying. I can call a man with a gun to threaten or hurt someone mildly inconveniencing me. You're not calling the cops, you're calling A MAN WITH A GUN into a situation that does not warrant a firearm handled by a volatile lunatic who will not be held accountable for his actions.

up past bedtime but they look cute take a picture
sad news, my son Crispin Shopify III saw a picture of me when i was breastfeeding him as a baby. the psychiatrists all agreed that exposure to this act which is potentially incestuous and sexual was equivalent to infinite permanent sexual trauma, and so we've decided to euthanize him and just start again from the beginning. hopefully i wont fuck it up again this time. god bless.
every time a trans man who does not want to be called a twink gets called a twink I will personally go out into the world and rend 1 parked car to shreds with my teeth. cut it out
walk with me for a moment. let's think for a sec. I'm not upset but I do want people to understand. do you think assigning a label associated with feminine features, hairlessness, skinniness/lack of muscle tone, and high pitched voices is something that most trans men would feel comfortable being associated with? why or why not?
of COURSE there are trans men who don't mind it, or trans men who actively enjoy being called a twink. but I am not hairless by choice. I WANT fat and muscles and body hair and a deep voice. and a lot of trans men that get called twinks DO HAVE THESE THINGS, yet they get called "twink" anyway. why do you think that might be?
it's okay if you've done this in the past. maybe just check in before you call your friend or acquaintance something with so many specific, potentially disheartening associations!
I wonder if the inverse occurs with trans women getting called "butch" too. because there are many wonderful butch trans women!!! but if you call trans women "butches" for traits like short hair or body hair despite otherwise feminine presentation, maybe think about why that is? is she really a butch? or is that just her body? just ask first!
nonbinary people too. are they really "masc presenting" or is that just their body? are they really "fem presenting" or is that just their body? let's all try to be a bit more cognisant of the language we use to describe the trans people in our lives, yeah? [: it's worth thinking about. don't worry yourself into a hole about it, of course! but it's something to check every now and then.
9th doctor era was simply The Best One im sorry. shaved head leather jacket doc martins telling people to kill themselves. sweetie pea retail worker universal union organizer who became god for him. their stray cat horny little boytoy bottom who becomes an unkillable eldritch horror because of their love. did i mention the first guys a dilf and the other two have daddy issues.
does anyone have like Actual history of top/bottom as terms bc like. the bondage book I have from 2001 refers to the person being bound as the bottom so I don't think it's just a matter of Kids These Days not knowing what words to use
the only semi-informative page I can find is on...encyclopedia.com? and I read their entire bibliography and didn't find a source for any of their claims so.
feverishly searching through 200-page dissertations on the leather community shdhcbdnndbdndb
ok found a paper on s/m culture from 1984 (paywalled but available elsewhere) saying that dominant partners can be referred to as tops and submissive partners can be referred to as bottoms so i think the "top and bottom only refer to who's doing the penetrating, there is no other way to use these terms" crowd may be clowning themselves a little
from their "definitions" section:
Dominance is an appearance of rule over one partner by another. The dominant partner is variously called sadist, dominant, dominator, dominatrix, top, master, mistress, or just "S." The counterpart to dominance is submission-an appearance of obedience to a partner. The submissive partner is variously called masochist, submissive, bottom, slave, or just "M."
I'm not immune to nostalgia for 2010s liberalism a la "this used to be the sjw website" but honestly ...... as much as the overton window has shifted into hell. What with the fascism. It did always kinda suck though didn't it
We Are having such an insane wave of antifeminism in otherwise lefty queer progressive type spaces but it's easy to forget what we used to have was, like. Pussy hats
That being said we did have Black people here before tumblr exploded their blogs. Women, even. And we had sex workers, too. Tumblr's political climate getting Worse can be pretty clearly traced to nuking all the Black women (2016) and sex workers (2018) and trans women (Right Now)
