@doctor-wizard
so this might be the funniest text i've ever gotten about my partner
I wonder how much property damage I could cause by playing the "backing up" sound effect sporadically while in start-and-stop rush hour
@randomitemdrop ?
Item: electric guitar imprisoning the soul of somebodyâs grandpa; typically this process makes the instrument more powerful but crucially it only works when the soul knew how to play said instrument well, which this particular gentleman did not
*tamp tamp*
ah i see youve noticed me tamping down the soft earth
for no reason whatsoever hereâs a reminder that if you consider yourself a leftist/punk/abolitionist/anarchist/radical in any sort of way and get called into jury duty, you are to become the most square person on earth during the jury questionnaire!!!
donât be that guy who says fuck the police in the jury questionnaire! that just gets you sent home! if you want to generate change, interact with the case and use your jury vote for good! ESPECIALLY if itâs a high profile case!
Remember, when you're on the jury, a good "that cop's story didn't add up" will sway a lot more Chads and Karens than "fuck the police."
Had jury duty, can confirm!
An innocent man is home with his family instead of spending his kids' whole childhoods in jail for "resisting arrest" when none of the cops could agree on why he was being arrested in the first place. (But it definitely had nothing to do with him being a Black man in a nice car, honest! đ)
And it still took like two hours of delibration after we'd heard all the evidence because one lady was so gung ho about believing everything the cops said, even when not a single goddamn one could agree with their own testimony, let alone their colleagues'.
Pointing out all the inconsistencies and admitted misconduct and letting people slowly come to their own conclusions as the trial played out was fucking hard, I won't lie. I can be patient, but it doesn't come naturally to me.
But. Yelling about how this was obviously a bs case would have shut everyone down and made them stop listening. Asking questions and letting people discuss how the cops tried to make xyz sound suspicious but it was totally normal, or about how if things played out the way the cops said then logically events should have proceeded in a totally different direction, and positing different theories that actually lined up with the evidence presented?
That got people thinking, and everyone realized that for a variety of reasons we all had reasonable doubts that the defendent had committed any of the crimes of which he was accused.
Being able to raise reasonable doubt among a jury of one's peers saves lives. If you get the chance, take it.
"Jury Room / The Holdout" (1959) by Norman Rockwell. One of my favorites of his. Particularly the gendered dynamic he depicts here.
you solve the mystery of what to have for dinner one night and you think "hell yeah case closed forever" WRONG there is a dinner mystery the next night too
speaking of chekov's gun though, what was the trypophobia about. i can't figure that one out. why does Jax have trypophobia, and why does the show call attention to it in three different scenes across two episodes?
the best i can do is that the abstractions look like they might trigger it. covered in a bunch of evenly-spaced eyes as they are, it sorta makes sense someone might develop trypophobia if they have particularly negative associations with them. hence, Ribbit and Kaufmo abstracting may have caused Jax to develop trypophobia.
that's the best i can do. that is a Reading. but it doesn't taste right. it doesn't quite feel right to me. it's a bit too shaky. i feel like there's more.
Adding onto this, I think the conversation about Jax having trypophobia being in the episode where we get the infamous "There's nothing more to me! So PLEASE... just stop looking" line is VERY intentional.
As much as she would hate to admit it, Jax is a person, and people have weird hangups and inconsistencies. In this instance, Jax's phobia supersedes the jokey/trickster/cartoon persona she uses to distance herself from the emotions she doesn't want to process.
Getting reflexively squicked out by something innocuous is such a quintessentially HUMAN thing to do, it calls bullshit against all the anime villain rambling she's going to do in the latter half of the episode.

Humans are pretty prone to mimicking noises. like even subconsciously. sometimes we even unintentionally pick up entirely different accents. and you literally can't tell me you've never meowed or woofed or chirped back at a cat/dog/bird at least once in your life (unless you are physically/audibly unable to do so).
So Grace 1000% starts picking up and mimicking Eridian noises.
One day, Rocky will be working on something, only to freeze as he hears Grace behind him suddenly exclaim in fluent Eridian "SHIT!"
Turns out Eridian swear words are usually expressed in the same decibel that humans can whistle in.
We ain't leaving this in the comments

A German regional court has ruled that Google is directly liable for the content of its AI search overviews. According to the court, previou
Letâs fucking go
This is HUGE.
1. The court holds Google responsible for statements made by its AI, considering them Google's statements (search engines have limited liability for results in their engine as they're the words of other sites/companies/people), meaning when their AI lies/hallucinates they're liable for the defamation/harm resulting from those statements.
2. Google's defense that customers are generally aware of the lack of reliability and are responsible for fact checking was dismissed. As the court pointed out, that would "significantly diminish" AI Search's stated purpose and it can't be distinguished from Google's business practices/statements as a search tool.
3. Studies have found about 91% of Google's everyday AI responses are accurate, leaving millions of searches per HOUR with potential liability for falsehoods. 56% of correct responses weren't supported by the sources the AI listed. Both of which mean Google is now liable for a LOT more AI "errors."
4. Google was held liable for 80% of court costs in this case and this precedent is expected to reverberate around the world. This is a massive shift from the 3rd-party search provider role Google has previously played and it comes right as they've tied ALL searches to their AI search.
TL;DR Google reeeeeally stepped in it this time.

Gotta tell you guys something wild in the Chinese fan sphere
So some fanartist drew a âsexyâ (read: booby) version of a (cartoon) character who is traditionally very non-sexualised. Fans of the character got mad about it because itâs kind of groundbreaking how that character is written and portrayed and this art totally ignores the entire point of the character. They demanded the art be deleted. In response to that other people said, well what the fanartist did may be distateful but they have every right to draw what theyâre into. The two sides fight for days and each starts a harassment campaign and even report their âopponentsââ accounts.
So far so typical. But things eventually come to a head and they decide that this will be settled by votes - not through a poll. Through donations to a childrenâs education charity via each sideâs portal. Whoever can get the highest amount of donation wins.
And that is how this charity received over 1 million in donations in three days lol. Oh btw the âfreedom of expressionâ side won by a landslide (960k to 40k)
From now on this is how all petty fandom disputes should be settled.
