This was our 1st pancake breakfast without my Mom. I missed her so much! She and I have gone every year since I was a little girl. February is Cholangiocarcinoma Month. 💚 My mom was diagnosed with this extremely rare, aggressive and deadly cancer in February of 2021. Gallbladder and bile duct cancers are generally even more deadly than pancreatic cancer — and only account for less than 12,000 cases a year in the U.S. The only symptoms my Mom had were a very slight not quite painful sensation in her abdomen and then jaundice. Dark urine, itching, pale feces + weight loss are other symptoms. Please listen to your body and trust your instincts. If something feels off, get it checked out. She was very fortunate to qualify for Whipple surgery and stunned her surgeon Dr. Hardacre with her amazing results. She had virtually no side effects. Unfortunately, we found out her cancer was back in October of this year, but it appeared to be growing slowly. Then on 1/17 a CT scan to rule out a bowel obstruction revealed that the cancer was now in the head of her pancreas and peritoneum. Neither of these cancers were visible 2 weeks prior. Had the best single malt Irish whiskey last night along with some delicious bites thanks to @knappoguewhiskey and @blackpigcle. . @knappoguewhiskey is made with malted barley. "Malted" means that the barley has been germinated and then had its growth halted by heat. It's then dried in ovens without the use of peat. This means that there isn't any heavy smoky flavor and it's really smooth. . The 12 year is under $40 which is a great value! It mixed well in cocktails but was also perfect straight up. . We were served three kick ass apps, all so good I couldn't pick a favorite. 🔸️Crab on a rice crisp with caviar 🔸️Pork belly with beet glaze + pickled apple 🔸️Celery root cakes with pear butter and charred leek mascarpone Every bite was perfection.
