the concept of "needing" to buy merch to "support" some wealthy celebrity is so alien to me.... like why not just buy a piece of merch if you like it and want to own it rather than making it into some kind of moral issue. this is kind of about the meghan markle crazies (just saw a post on reddit where someone said their girlfriend spent $600 of their rent money on two cases of her shitty wine and neither of them even drink alcohol) but also like as a swiftie i frequently see people talk about buying her merch and variants in ways that seem so bizarre to me. blondie doesn't need my money!! she doesn't need YOUR money!! yes i will continue giving her A LITTLE BIT of my money now and then but only if i actually like what she's selling and will wear it!! idk man i just think "we need to support our fave!!" is such a weird way of operating, and i say this as someone who owns plenty of merch for artists i like....

After the Charli xcx Sky Ferreira drama, I’ve been listening to Sky’s music again, and Eyes of the World (the track from Wuthering Heights Sky is featured on) has major elements from Downhill Lullaby, Don’t Forget, and Leash, all Sky singles. Which makes sense because Sky is credited as a writer on the song, but I can easily some of the other songs on the album being a Sky Ferreira song through and through.

I don’t know what went down between these two, and it hardly matters what anyone else has to say except the people involved, but I do think this entire ruckus raises important questions of ownership when it comes to art, especially in the music industry. All the public discourse surrounding Sky has mainly been “oh there she goes again” or “you can’t trust her she’s an addict”, which is honestly a terrible way of perceiving this conflict, discrediting someone’s character instead of their claims.

Some people are saying this is promo? Which could be true, either for Sky’s new album or Withering Heights. Either way, I’d like to see a new album from Sky soon, I’m sure it would be good enough to make the weird pitting two artists against each other discourse irrelevant.

Most annoying thing to remember is that you're litterally just a homosapien. You're just a very smart animal. If you feel like shit, imagine you're an exotic pet for some alien species and do what they'd do to keep you healthy. You gotta be well cared for. Animal abuse is a crime for a reason

"Greg has been flailing around and panicking, his breathing is way faster than it should be" Greg is overwhelmed. Take Greg out of the situation and give him time to calm down. Perhaps somewhere cozy with tea and a movie

"Greg won't do what he needs to do" Train him. Humans do great with positive reinforcement, give him little treats when he's doing good

"Greg he's been super anxious and tired, he can't seem to enjoy his days" Humans needs to move around. Give Greg something to exercise with. Things like stretching, weight lifting, walking, or even dancing will help

"Even though I've taken really good care of Greg, he still has been having issues" Greg is ill, take him to the doctor. You might need a specialist (therapist, optometrist, oncologist, etc)

I know it feels patronizing, and I know it feels embarrassing or that you're "just giving into the clichés", but you are literally just a creature. You need to sleep/eat on time, you need enrichment, and you need to take care of your social needs. Humans are complicated animals, but they are also beautiful and all deserve proper care. This obviously isn't a perfect analogy, nothing is, but if you saw your friend taking care of their pet the way you take care of yourself, would you be concerned?

Require it to be labeled. that's it. require every instance of AI output to be clearly and obviously labeled that it is AI. Every decision made with AI has to be disclosed in plain phrasing, every email, every paper, every image and video must be clearly and obviously watermarked. Make removing the label/identifier a procecutable offence.

Now everyone who doesn't want it can avoid it. Now everyone using it with intent as a bad actor has to jump through extra hoops (and is on the hook for additional charges when caught). Now every single person who has had their insurance claim or credit application or resume rejected or denied because of AI can point to it and demand a reconsideration. Make. Every. Single. Instance. Of AI use mandated to be legally disclosed. That's it!
