everyone i've talked to about this has been completely unaware so: if you didn't know already, there's going to be a solar eclipse, with totality or coverage of 90% or more in some places, over a lot of europe, on august 12th 2026. in the uk it will start just after 6pm, and the maximum will be at 7:13pm.

As someone who used to play a little bit of fiddle before illness forced me to mostly move to less rigorous ways of making music, the song is deeper than you'd think. See, the Devil's performance has a lot more fancy tricks in it. It's a display of technique. It's the contest entry of a show-off, first and foremost. And while Johnny has plenty of pride, arguably more than is good for him, he goes up against the Devil with a selection of classic tunes, things that he probably learned from his Papaw on a back porch while other relatives and friends accompanied on guitar or banjo or washtub bass. Johnny is celebrating tradition here. He's celebrating family. He is celebrating, dare I say it, Georgia—the ordinary people of Georgia, the poor people of Georgia, the folks who may not have had much, but sometimes music and family are what you need. The Devil loves the sound of his own fiddle, but Johnny loves fiddling.

There is a thread that runs through certain American stories where someone with a high degree of technical knowledge but no real passion or warmth gets their ass whupped by someone whose pure love for their craft shines through. "You've Gotta Have Heart," as the song says—weirdly enough, that's from a story about the Devil screwing up as well. So, yes, "The Devil Went Down To Georgia," is a very American story, and it's a very Southern story (music is Important, y'all) but it also follows a long tradition of the Devil getting beaten like a punk because he underestimated the hell out of some random human. It's a lot of things.

Simple Review

If you guys haven't listened to this yet, you should.

This album is so fun- it's like a mix of 80s pop dance songs mixed with unexpected metal breakdowns, but in the best way possible.

I really don't know how to properly write reviews, but I'll just say that this is like a breath of fresh air compared to every other thing I've heard this year so far. It's very unique and catchy, and I'm a bit obsessed.

My favorite songs are Romanticize, The Warning, You Like It Best When It Hurts, and Every House We Built. 🖤

I give it 4.5 out of 5 stars.

I don’t think people truly understand the scope of the damage Sony is about to do to physical media. They literally invented the compact disc. They are the reason why Blu-ray as a format won the HD wars over HD-DVD. They have gargantuan influence over manufacturing disc-based media. If Sony as a company stops making physical media for their next gen gaming consoles, this is going to affect movies and music as well. If you buy CDs, DVDs, or Blu-rays, those are next on the chopping block.
