Two days ago my husband said "...and he was pissed" and I said "don't say that around the kids!" so he corrected himself to "and he was liquid angry" and I've been laughing since

Occasionally you do need to just let fantasy be fantasy. "Why are the mountains around Mordor in a square, mountain ranges don't work like that" well you see there's an evil god who lives there hope this helps

What a funny story...
okay context for the non-italians. long story short: it's pretty much impossible from an engineering perspective. there are very strong and swirly currents that make it not feasible to just build a bridge where the coasts are the closest - it would have to be built in a spot where the distance between the coasts is wider, a little too much for a bridge possibly, but also, like, outside of the cities, which means it would still be quicker for people to step on the ferry than drive all the way to the bridge. the ferry is quick, cheap, also they've introduced sustainable non-polluting boats, so, literally no one in either sicily or calabria wants a useless bridge, even if it could be built safely.
on top of that... it's a seismic area. you really don't want to make engineering experiments there.
governments have tried to figure out a way to build that bridge at least from the 60s, afaik, but engineers have just come to the conclusion that nope.
also: people in sicily and calabria have reason to believe that if a project like that gets given the green light, it will end up fattening the pockets of corrupted politicians and mafia groups.
pretty straightforward right? yeah... NOPE!
the italian right has been waving the proposal of building that bridge for decades. every once in a while, when you think you're free, BAM the right-wing politician genius of the moment comes up with the law proposal to build the bridge. it used to be berlusconi, now berlusconi is dead, recently it's been salvini. they propose to build the bridge, the left says "what the fuck", and the right goes see!! the left doesn't want progress and development for the country!! they want the country to languish and die!!
(in the meanwhile taxpayers' euros go into paying commissions that need to figure out how to build the bridge, ignoring that there's been a billion commissions over almost a century that have all come to the conclusion that nope.)
(also remember what i said about corrupted politicians and mafia groups? well try to guess the reason it's the right-wing parties that keep insisting on building this fucking bridge.)
it's become a total national joke. mention the bridge on the strait to an italian, they'll laugh as they go through the 5 stages of italian political grief.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY DON ROSA!
On this day in 1951, Keno Don Hugo Rosa, known as Don Rosa, was born in Louisville, Kentucky. From a young age, he has been drawing various things, especially superhero comics related to Marvel and DC, and then moved on to drawing his favorite characters from Disney, especially Donald, Scrooge, Huey, Dewey and Louie and other characters from the Duckverse, more precisely from the Carl Barks comics universe. He also invented his own character Captain Kentucky where he published comic books under that name for a time. He will become more famous when he works for Disney comics from 1987 and when in 1992 he publishes a series of comics related to The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck. From 1990 to 2008, he worked for Egmont comics (Danish edition of Disney comics). He even wrote and drew Ducktales comics (Ducktales 1987) and scripted the Talespin episodes, believe it or not. He retired in 2008 due to health reasons, but he certainly travels around the world and draws for his fans. It is generally more popular in Europe than in America. And yes, he is very unhappy with Disney's treatment of his comics. However, he received many awards.
Although he inherited a lot from Barks, Don Rosa still created his own Duckverse universe in which he showed more sensitivity in many characters than in other authors. He also wrote and drew comics related to the Three Caballeros. In his private life, he grows chilies. He had a wife, who unfortunately died last year. May his wife rest in peace. Amen.
Certainly, Don Rosa is one of my favorite writers and artists for Donald Duck comics and I am very grateful to him for the great comics he left behind. I wish him a happy 75th birthday and a long and healthy life and I hope that I may meet him in person one day. Thank you Don Rosa for these comics and the issues you left us!
And yes, his comics are not DUCKTALES nor DUCKTALES (especially the reboot version) is as close to his comics as anyone has claimed it to be, otherwise it is not.
Happy 75th birthday Don Rosa!
Here are pictures related to Don Ross, as well as pictures of him that he has drawn so far! If you're a Don Ross fan, feel free to like and reblog this! Happy birthday Don Rosa!
THE ONE AND ONLY!!!!!
I'm afraid that I have the worldbuilder's disease and it is terminal.
Fascinating. And where did this disease come from, how is it spread, and what demographics does it affect the most?
Happy 1st birthday to this post
Two years...
For a terminal disease it sure is taking its time.
Don't worry it'll get me eventually.
Three years of terminal worldbuilder's disease
I love history
As promised, Rujini aquarium date part 2! This one was supposed to be a more dramatic/romantic piece compared to the first, apologies I legit forgot how to draw these people and they're different in most panels but alas, enjoy. And some crackpost Jinu shenanigans at the end cuz I can't not.
Greece. Egypt. Assyria. Anatolia. Long ago, the four nations lived together in harmony. Then everything changed when the Sea People attacked.

I feel like a very important part of worldbuilding for any universe with a magic system is asking yourself ‘how would people use this to do crime?’
This was one of my introductions to military history. I was 14 and haven't ever really looked back. Big fan of star forts and Vauban.
Star forts like this were constructed after gunpowder became common in warfare! The elevated position plus the angled walls were designed to make it harder to just blow a hole in the wall with a big cannon, which is what happened to a lot of pre-gunpowder fortifications.
