When I was a little boy, girls used to just do random cartwheels for no reason. Then one day, they stopped. Now that I am a man, no women randomly do cartwheels. I ran across "white women naming their pets after asian foods" discourse and I do not want to jump in and argue with a bunch of room temperature IQs but I need to get the thoughts out or I'm gonna burst.

In english, pet names tend to be 1-2 syllables, typically with the stress on the first syllable. They tend to fall into a handful of thematic categories, and "food item" is one of the major categories (alongside "adjectives" and "pop culture reference"). Which is why you'll also see a lot of pets named tater, dumpling, gouda, taco, biscuit, poutine, muffin, butters, cupcake, pepper, peanut, nacho, noodle, pumpkin, etc.

A lot of asian foods that are popular in the west (miso/tofu/kimchi/sushi/sake/boba) therefore sound good as pet names. Yeah it's a little bit trendy. Asian food in general is trendy in the US right now (can't speak to other countries). During the 2010s bacon craze, there were a lot of pets named Bacon.

It's literally not that deep. Check out this list of dog names from 1460. This is barely recognizable as english, and the names trend a little longer, but I gently draw your attention to "Garlik," "Salmon," and "Lamprey."

Any time people make a big fuss about something as harmless as naming pets after food and single out women, it becomes fairly clear that they're less concerned about racism and more looking for an excuse to shame women.

hey so filming people without their consent is weird. you know that right? filming people you don't know and they aren't aware of what you're doing is creepy. posting strangers online is fucking weird. we're too comfortable with doing it now for shits and giggles, chasing some sort of viral hit instead of reckoning with the fact that you posted someone who did not consent to their body and face being publically used.

we're being pushed these Meta Glasses as if mass surveillance of strangers is fun and normal! it's weird!!! there are already reports that people are using these to film women without them knowing and sharing it to communities who get off on this shit. who else knows who people are filming. these glasses with cameras are not obvious and that is dangerous.
