okay, so here’s an update on how my marathon training is going, or not going i guess, i feel like crying, i think i’m gonna start crying right this fucking second because it’s all so unfair. ughh i’m so fucking dramatic
I think nothing’s lost yet, since i’ve been training for 4 weeks and still have 22 weeks till my race, but i really feel like crying, because yesterday, i was carying groceries and sudenly the bag rips and guess which one it is? yes, it’s the one with 2 2Litres bottles of water, and they both fall right on my ankle before hitting the ground, so i’m pretty sure i sprained my ankle, i iced it and bandaged it
but i’ll need some rest, which means skipping some runs ,maybe a week, maybe a little more, ‘cause i don’t wanna risk injuring myself more, this is the worst thing ever, but thank god it happened now and not like, 4weeks before my race, because that would’ve sucked.
i know it’s gonna pass and everything will be okay, and i’ll be back on track before i know it and i’ll go see a doctor as soon as possible because i don’t wanna gamble rn, i mean if i weren’t training for a marathon i’d just let it be but i need my feet rn so seeing a doctor it is.
and since this is the first post about my marathon training journey since i decided to do it. i’ll talk a little bit about how it’s been going till now and i’ll review everything and stuff.
so, first things first: running shoes, i bought these nike shoes. i already have a pair of asics shoes that i might post a picture of.
i don’t know their name and idc i just know they’re pretty, not that expensive and comfortable, yaay me, no splinters, i mean i do my best to prevent splinters, i moisturize my feet every night, and before going on a run i lubricate my feet with non petrolium jelly based lubricant and wear two pairs of socks to keep friction on my feet to a minimum.
now, onto nutrution, i don’t know if i already said that or not but i was a low-carber for a little more than 8 months last year, and even after i stopped my carb restriction, i just didn’t eat that many carbs, i mean the only carbs i’d eat were from fruint and veggies, and i’d stop eating fruit at 4pm. but everybody knows that runners are carbers, so i started incorporating more carbs into my diet, and i’m still adjusting, and by that i mean that once my brain got the, carbs are okay message, i just eat all kinds of carbs, bad and good, so sometimes (every other day) i’d eat like french fries, or cookies or ice cream or potato chips or crap like that, not in huge amounts, but i still eat them, so im working on that and on telling myself that just because runners are carbers doesn’t mean that runners eat processed and deep friend junk, so i’ll keep you (myself, this is more ike a journal entry than a post in blog) updated on that.
I found that if i eat less than 45 min before a run i feel sluggish and like there’s something dragging me back idk how to explain it but it’s like i’m carrying a huge backpack or something like that with me, it slows me down and i don’t like it. also, if i drink lots of water (more than 1litre) half an hour to 40 minutes before running i feel very thirsty and dehydrated very quickly. so i try to drink 2 cups every 30 minutes 2hours before my run. my fav pre-jog breakfast is barley with cinnamon, figs and raisins and my fav snack is hazelnut/peanut butter banana cinnamon toast both of them accompanied by a cup of coffee and 2 cups of water.
i ran a total of 31.2 miles these past 4 weeks, i know that it’s nothing impressive but that’s still 31.2 miles more than last month so i’m damn proud of myself. im taking my training relatively slow so i don’t crash and burn and it’s working very well, and the sense of achievement i get whenever i finish a run is like nothing else i’ve ever felt, i see now why people get addicted.
Oh, and also, endomondo is a pretty great app for mileage tracking and the gps works perfectly and it never bugged on me and it doesn’t take up much space, so im pretty satisfied with it.
as you can see im just getting started, so all and every advice/tip/hack concerning proper nutrition, foot care, running gear or anything really is more than welcome
i guess this is all for now and if i there’s anything else i’d like to add i’ll make another post.
