The way all the 2020s have done so far have been making me categorically against every new generation of tech that comes out is insane. Like I'm from a technological boom generation, saw the first portable phones, nokias & blackberries & flipphones etc, and the first smartphones, and the first ipods & ipads & tablets in general while still having cassettes & DVD & MP3 players around so I know how all of it work, I had computer classes in high school, I did the transition between home desktop computers to laptops and back to gaming computers. But then they started to put internet in your printer & microwave, everything has ads & AI now and every update is worst than the last. I literally loved technology and they ruined it
Don't even try signing up for Artfight if you're Jewish. I posted something totally unpolitical on their Discord where I got the star in my handle and promptly got banned for genocide denial. I didn't post anything political on that server, my Art Fight profile, and nothing "discriminatory or hateful" anywhere else.
"No discriminatory behaviour" the IRONY when you ban Jews on sight.
[Image one: Screencap from an Art Fight page with several text boxes. The first text box is in red and reads, "You have been banned from Art Fight and cannot access this page." The second text box is in blue and reads, "There is a new post!" The page itself reads "Banned: You cannot access this page because you have been banned from participating in Art Fight." A gray text box reads: "Ban type: Permanent. Reason: Denial of genocide. Art Fight aims to be a safe place for all users. Hateful or discriminatory content and behavior is prohibited." Image two: Screencap of OP's Discord profile; their profile picture is a light-skinned person with long black hair, the artist is ADHDnoJutsu ( adhdnojutsu ), their linktree is adhdnojutsu, and their handle is listed as Manga Artist for Hire with a Magen David emoji at the start; OP has drawn an arrow pointing to the star and labeled it "genocide denial" in quotes, as that is literally the only possible thing on the screencap that could be interpreted as anything like the stated reason for the ban. End ID.]

I'm young enough that I shouldn't have ever used a Fax machine. I have used a Fax machine a lot in my government jobs though.
Have you ever accidentally called a Fax machine on the phone before? The modem sound screaming directly into your ear hole is very unpleasant.
At my old job at the game store, the phone, fax, and credit card reader all used the same line. So you couldn't use any of them at the same time.
I'm not even sure if I could pick a fax machine out of LINEUP
Listen, I worked at a place that had a typewriter.
Not a cool, vintage one, it was electric for some reason.
I've had to get court documents via fax machine because the court didn't use email despite it being the 2010's at the time.
The last office I worked in before my current job had two small ones plugged into the wall. They had WiFi access and were solely being used as printers but the fax machine instructions for how to send and receive were still taped to their sides.
Technically, big office printers (think Ricoh printers which are invariably cursed) often do have fax capabilities that just don't get used. Many home printers also do if set up right.
Fax machines are still out there, lurking around. Disguised as printers, mostly.
The lion does not concern herself with how badly she's butchering Hebrew prayers. She reads the prayers anyways and apologizes to G-d profusely afterwards. (And then reads it again in English.)
I'm struggling.
There once was a shepherd who did not know any prayers, so he would just yell the Hebrew alphabet to God
One day, a rabbi passed by on the way back from shul and overheard the shepherd. He yelled out, "what are you doing?" and the shepherd yelled back, "I'm praying!"
The rabbi was offended by the shepherd's prayer and said, "you're doing it all wrong, why don't you come to shul with me tomorrow so you can see how it's supposed to be done?"
The shepherd agreed and prepared himself to meet the rabbi the next morning
At shul, the shepherd did not know any of the prayers. He did not recognize the tunes and could not read the siddurim, so he stayed quiet the entire time.
The next morning, the shepherd, ashamed that he did not know how to pray correctly, did not pray at all. The next morning and the morning after that, he stayed just as quiet.
Until one day, God yelled down to him, "Why have you stopped praying??"
The shepherd responded, "because I don't know how to pray to you correctly like the rabbis in shul, so I figured it best that I don't try at all"
God said, "Even if you do not know the prayers that the rabbis in shul pray, your prayer is my favorite to hear every morning because you say it with all your heart"
So the moral of the story is, don't beat yourself up about getting it wrong, the most important thing about the blessings and prayers is that you put your heart into it and really mean it.
This was so sweet and comforting to read. Thank you. ❤️
The rule could have heavy impacts towards trans people across society.
Last week, the Trump administration quietly released a sweeping new federal rule that would use funding threats to force institutions across the country to reject transgender people. The 400-page proposed regulation would codify the administration's anti-trans executive orders into binding federal policy, imposing a blanket prohibition on federal funds going toward "gender ideology"
The proposed rule, formally titled "Regulation for Federal Financial Assistance," rewrites the government-wide framework governing all federal grants across every agency. Among its most consequential provisions, it requires that before a federal grant recipient can receive money, the award must pass a "pre-issuance review" conducted by a political appointee—not a career expert or peer reviewer—to ensure it is "consistent with applicable law, Federal agency priorities, and the national interest." The regulation explicitly instructs these appointees to screen for "denial by the recipient of the sex binary in humans or the notion that sex is a chosen or mutable characteristic." [...] An institution that acknowledges transgender people exist—through its policies, its training, its healthcare, its bathroom access, its HR procedures, its name-change processes—could be deemed to "deny the sex binary" or to “support the notion that sex is mutable” and have its federal funding blocked.
Importantly, the gender ideology prohibition has no age limitation—hospitals could be targeted not just for providing care to minors but for providing gender-affirming care to adults, because prescribing hormone therapy to a transgender patient of any age could be deemed promoting the belief that "sex is a chosen or mutable characteristic."
THIS IS OPEN TO COMMENT UNTIL JULY 13, 2026
This is all very bad and horrible, but I want to be clear that it’s worse and more sweeping than just eliminating trans research.
This torches everything. And I do mean everything.
A very abbreviated list of its ramifications include (but are not limited to):
ending funding for ALL DEI related initiatives
allowing the government to terminate grants at any point for any reason
preventing researchers from publishing, going to conferences, and being part of academic societies
requiring that topics must support the president’s agenda.
What this means, and if anything I’m under selling it, is the death of science and research in America. It allows the government to restrict any topic they please at a whims notice, putting officials who have no background in the topic in charge of deciding funding continuity. It controls what gets researched and if/how researchers are allowed to share their discoveries. There are no books to burn if the government never allows them to be written. This is fascism plain and simple.
Please, if you only ever write one public comment, this is the one to do.
Bringing back this guide to writing an effective public comment. This gives you the basics you need to know, what you need to include, a basic outline you can follow, etc.
Public comments are not a vote, it is a chance for you to say "here is an issue with this law I think you need to address" and provide justification for legal challenges if it goes forward:
"Comments raise the bar that agencies have to meet when making a rule; “if an agency fails to adequately respond to significant, relevant comments in a final rule, members of the public may seek to challenge the rule in court on that basis and claim it could be struck down.ˮ"
But also, if possible, don't stop at writing a comment. Don't stop at calling your representatives. You should ideally be talking to people in your community about this and organizing resistance on-the-ground; there is a good chance people are already doing that even if you aren't hearing about it.
Like they said- get the noise up. The administration has tried lots of ways to ban being transgender, and they've always failed. Make sure to tell community members and ask them to pass the word as well.
Don't let fear or feeling doomed stop you. If you're overwhelmed that's okay, but take a break, take a breath, talk to someone about how you're feeling, and continue.
We've beaten them before and we'll beat them again.
saw this on pinterest but i think it belongs here too
this will never not be important
i mean this in the nicest way possible but some of you need to learn how to be annoyed
people are going to annoy you and that’s not a reason to burn bridges or blow up relationships
some people will even annoy you often! some people aren’t good at social cues and will therefore be frequently annoying! still not a reason to blow everything up!

Do you think it's immoral to use chatgpt for college assignments? I think it's unfortunately unavoidable.
It is absolutely immoral, completely counterproductive to the goal of learning things, and turns out incredibly subpar work.
As for unavoidable….you understand that the vast majority of people who have ever graduated college throughout history did so without ever once using AI, right? You understand that?
You understand that the point of writing papers isn’t just to have a paper with words on it, right? You understand that the entire point is to do the mental work necessary to put your learning into organized words, such that you actually learn it? And that if you outsource that to AI you are not learning?
i think everyone who's ever been fucked over by the slow, bureaucratic, cruel, and expensive usa healthcare system should be allowed to beat one (1) hospital administrator with a pool noodle in public while the administrator tries to navigate an automated phone tree in order to make it stop

Hellzapoppin from 1941! I think it's the earliest film footage we have of the lindy hop, done here by the dance troupe the Harlem Congaroos! Lindy used to be VERY fast stuff! It's also called West Coast Swing. This entire film is VERY silly you should go watch it.
