The same God who wanted Mary to be a mother wanted Joan to be a soldier.
I honestly never get sick of younger people discovering the capacity for evil exists in all humans and then doing backflips to assign "inherently good" and "inherently evil" values to different groups of people as a result.
To that, I say: humans are more than capable of bastardry across the board, pass me the popcorn while I watch these guys melt down wrestling with that fact.
We ought to put that on a t-shirt
"Do you understand your capacity for evil?"
avpd feels like everyone else is allowed to be a person but not you
Every time something I say gets a negative reaction I remove it from the mental container of "things I can say". Which means eventually I will reach zero sayable words. And then I win, roll credits
now that tRaUmA is NoRmAlIzEd — if you are a survivor of trauma-flavored trauma (the kind that almost no one survives ), here are some quick tips for making and maintaining friendships with Americans under the age of 65!
speaking factually true statements about yourself existing in the past : FORBIDDEN
speaking factually true statements about your current quality of life : FORBIDDEN
listening to hours of venting about interpersonal conflict among family members : MANDATORY
fuuuuck i just realized that the future idealized version of myself cant exist without current me being the catalyst for change and doing hard things. has anybody heard about this
the wrong people in this world are unlearning shame
psa: 'hey guys remember to be nice to people and try to be sensitive if you can :)'
gentle soul with debilitating anxiety: 'oh no do they mean me am i a jerk? is this me???? should i have apologized to that waiter for pouring soup in my lap? ahghghghghghhg i'm so bad at social cues'
the most obtuse and self-righteous person on the planet: 'you are intruding on my god-given right to harass strangers for no reason because you don't have trauma (broke a bone in third grade) like i do'
this is so late renaissance early mannerism. the controversial male nudity? the lighting and value on the figure of emphasis?? him bathed in light and placed ABOVE while the police are clad in dark and BELOW?? Uh HES HITTING THE CONTRAPPOSTO??
The gang is all here
couple dynamic where one character is a bitch and the other one is also a bitch and it's good they found each other because they would drive any other person alive to madness
you can never escape a weird little freak that loves you
this was meant to be romantic but now i’m realizing it reads more like. a threat
the thing with "intent doesn't matter, impact does" is you're not going to convince me it's reasonable to act like someone who bumped you rounding the corner deliberately shoved you.
An apology is in order but it's a different kind. You know that.
Fyodor Dostoevsky, Notes from Underground
It's incredible, really, how wanting to know what happened in the past can be an even stronger hook in a story than wanting to know what happens next. The urge to understand why things are the way they are, even knowing that it can't be changed, is so powerful
