this sounds a lot like Y from another slavic language I know which means X in mine so this almost 100% also means X
this word is completely different but I can kinda tell the meaning from the morphology
what
okay right now I'm gonna have to dissect the entirety of this language's history to figure out how the FUCK did y'all get to the point of calling X that and not something more normal
I wanted to ask for X and accidentally called someone a whore
This reminds me of that time my (Czech) family went to Poland for my uncle's wedding (because my aunt - his wife - is Polish and they decided to get married in Poland).
The wedding afterparty was in full swing, everyone was drinking and partying.... and an elderly Polish lady approached my two aunts (who were also drinking a lot and partying hard) and commented something along the lines of "jesteĆcie odporne". Which in Polish means "you're resilient" (as in they're handling the alcohol well) but in Czech it means "you're disgusting".
It took my aunts a bit to remember that it means something different in Polish. đ
'pozor' in Czech means 'watch out!', but means 'shame' in Russian
droga in czech means drug, in polish it means road
zĂĄchod in czech means toilet, zachĂłd in polish means 'west'
odchod 'to depart' in Czech means very specifically 'to depart by foot', while in Slovak it has a bit wider meaning, and buses and trains also combine with 'odchod'. To a Czech speaker this gives the funny implication that departing trains grow legs and walk out of the train station
Croatian 'mrdati' = to wiggle, means 'to have sex' in Czech
otrok in Czech means 'slave' but in Slovenian and perhaps other South slavic languages it means 'child'. Very funny when combined with bazaar, turns a perfectly fine baby bazar into a slave bazaar
My friend has a fun sentence from Slovenian - "Hitri otroci kuhali jed na Dunaji". Literally none of the words here mean what a Czech thinks they mean. No not even Dunaj. Czechs read it as 'smart slaves were disemboweling poison by the Donau river', original Slovenian meaning is 'fast children were cooking food in Vienna'
Edit: wait one more. "srpanj" in Croatian means July, "srpen" in Czech means August. Listopad in Croatian means 'October', in Czech means 'November'. rujan in Croatian means 'September', ĆĂjen in Czech means 'October'. kwiecieĆ in Polish means 'April', kviteĆ in Ukrainian also means 'April', kvÄten in Czech means 'May'. Months are fucked up.

đșđžrecall of over 3.2 million metal wire bristle grill brushes due to dislodged wire bristles causing injuries requiring surgery; +bonus tumblr PSA: this is NOT a safe category of productđșđž
mouthful of a title, and a lot more detail than usual, because some absolutely horrifying nightmare fuel shit came up while making this post. thanks for your patience. no matter where you are in the world, if you have a grill or know anyone that does, you might want to read this.
the ultrafine bristles on weber metal wire grill brushes (and fine metal wire grill brushes as a whole) silently detach from the brush, stick to the grill, and eventually get stuck in food that people put in their mouth. these bristles are often difficult or impossible to spot in grilled food before it gets eaten. when food contaminated with even one single metal bristle gets eaten, the sharp bristle(s) easily and painfully pierce (and sometimes embed themselves in) victims' mouths, throats, and/or digestive tracts.
the recalled weber metal wire grill brushes were imported by weber-stephen products LLC and were sold online and in stores at lowe's, home depot, ace hardware, target, amazon.com, and weber.com from 2011 through 2026 for $10-$17. also sold on resale sites like ebay. this information is for whatever reason not actually listed in the CPSC recall announcement itself, but according to weber's official recall website, the recalled grill brushes were also sold at tractor supply, best buy, and "other" stores.
15 years of highly recommended, respected, 'good' metal wire grill brushes being recalled here. weber is offering free nylon wire grill brush replacements if you submit a photo and then promise to dispose of your recalled metal wire grill brushes. weber is aware of at least 38 reports and reviews of wire bristles coming off of the brushes. this includes 4 reports of people who ate food containing weber wire bristles and needed surgery to remove it from their throat or digestive tract.
so, I (rune) spent a few hours reading and summarizing the past 15 years of saferproducts.gov incident reports for metal wire bristles dislodging from grill brushes as a whole, both weber and non-weber metal wire grill brushes, to learn more about this category of product and the type of injuries they cause.
metal wire grill brush injuries (even from one single bristle!) often require weeks to months of agony, a ton of imaging, multiple different hospitals, several medical specialists, and multiple unsuccessful surgeries before the wire bristles get successfully removed...if surgery is ever successful. summarized incident reports and names of other hazardous metal wire grill brushes are compiled at the bottom of this post, under the cut, due to increasingly graphic injury descriptions and enormous number of reports.
for the US: please report unsafe products and please read reports of unsafe products at saferproducts.gov, which is run by the US consumer product safety commission (CPSC). you want that website bookmarked, as well as CPSC.gov/recalls and the ever-shitty recalls.gov/recent for a compilation of other official US recall links (click through the RSS feed links, the RSS recall feed previews are dangerously outdated). there are a shitload of unsafe products responsible for years of safety incidents, injuries, and sometimes deaths that have not yet been recalled and are often still actively being sold in the united states. many US product recalls only happen because safety incidents, including those involving injury or death, get reported on saferproducts.gov specifically. there have already been hundreds if not thousands of recalls across different US regulatory agencies in 2026 alone, as of march 2nd, 2026.
whether or not your metal wire grill brush is one of the ones involved in this weber recall, regardless of your brand or model of metal wire grill brush, and regardless of where you live in the world, please consider switching away from metal wire bristle grill brushes as a whole. clean your grill with anything else. try metal coil grill brushes, nylon grill brushes, bristle-free grill brushes, scrub pads, chainmail scrubbers, grill stones, ANYTHING other than grill brushes with metal wire bristles that can detach and land you or someone you care about in the hospital.
and in fact, if you have a safer recommendation for grill cleaning, leave it in a reply or reblog. holy fucking shit, nothing is worth the injuries caused by this entire category of product.
Hazard: Small metal wire bristles can detach from the brushes, stick to the grill or food, posing an ingestion hazard and risk of serious internal injuries that could require surgery.
Remedy: Replace
Recall Date: February 26, 2026
Units: About 3.2 million
these grills brushes are made up of tiny sharp metal wires, and are used to harshly scrub and clean grills. sometimes these bristles fall off the brush and wind up stuck to the grill. those bristles eventually wind up stuck in food cooked on that grill, and then that food goes into someone's mouth. do you normally remove the bun and use a magnifying glass and knife to carefully inspect and dissect an entire fucking burger handed to you by a grillmaster at a BBQ before trying to eat it? probably not!
and what happens next fucking sucks! the thin bristles pierce the mouth and can get lodged in throats or digestive tracts, and even one single bristle can require expensive scans and surgery. a lot of US emergency rooms are not equipped to successfully remove bristles this fine and make victims schedule an appointment with a specialist, even if the earliest appointment with someone covered by insurance is weeks or months away.
and the longer it takes a victim to find a medical professional who can successfully remove even one single fucking accidentally consumed metal wire grill brush bristle, the more likely that injury will become severe or even life-threatening. sometimes victims do not realize they even ate a bristle until days later when they are in agony and a lot of damage has already been done.
if you ever think you could have maybe swallowed a metal wire grill brush bristle: GO TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM IMMEDIATELY BEFORE THE BRISTLE GETS LODGED EVEN DEEPER, GETS FURTHER DOWN YOUR DIGESTIVE TRACT, OR POSSIBLY CAUSES A MAJOR INFECTION!
Description: This recall involves the metal wire bristle grill brushes with plastic or wood handles measuring between 12 and 21 inches long, as described below. The following model numbers are included in this recall and can be found on the product packaging: 6277, 6278, 6463, 6464, 6493, and 6494. Only the model numbers listed below are part of this recall.
some emphasis mine. not all weber grill brushes are being recalled, and most definitely not all metal wire grill brushes in the US are being recalled. unfortunately, the model numbers are on the product packaging. meaning, if you (very reasonably!) threw the packaging away, you just have to try and guess when and where your grill brushes were purchased, and compare the images to see if yours is eligible for a free replacement. all recalled grill brushes have either the weber grill logo or weber logo name somewhere on the brush or handle. might be a bit faded depending on how much yours was used.
but if you have a grill, this is a good opportunity to carefully check or ideally just replace all of your fine metal wire grill brushes. if you need more convincing, check saferproducts.gov incident reports involving grill brushes, or the summaries of those reports provided at the bottom of this post under the cut.
alright here comes my (rune!'s) eternal struggle: transcribing a table of recall information to tumblr. for a much more readable format, check out the recall announcement.
I (rune!!) cannot upload all the images in this recall because it exceeds tumblr's maximum image limit on mobile, but the recalled grill brush information is in the same order as the photos at the top of this post, and the missing images are also the ones at the top of this post. these 6 recalled grill brushes are basically the long and short versions of 3 different grill brush styles: one with a plastic black handle and a red ring, one made of bamboo that also has a metal scraper, and one with an all-black plastic handle.
recalled weber plastic handle metal wire grill brushes sold between 2021 and 2026:
Model Number: 6277
Brush Description: 12 inch black plastic handle with red ring stamped with Weber grill logo
Distribution Dates: 2021-2026
Model Number: 6278
Brush Description: 18 inch black plastic handle with red ring stamped with weber grill logo
Distribution Dates: 2021-2026
the full view of 6277 is image #1 at the top of this post, 6278 is image #2. they share the same grill logo. the CPSC recall announcement resuses the 6277 close-up for the 6278, and then also, in an apparent mistake, uses the grill logo for the overall picture of the 6278. (hopefully fixed by the time you see it...?)
recalled weber bamboo handle metal wire grill brushes sold between 2011 and 2021:
Model Number: 6463
Brush Description: 12 inch bamboo handle with silver metal scraper on the back branded with the Weber logo name
Distribution Dates: 2011-2021
and the weber logo name looks like this:
Model Number: 6464
Brush Description: 18 inch bamboo handle with silver metal scraper on the back branded with Weber logo name
Distribution Dates: 2011-2021
and once again, the image above was used as the close-up for both brushes. 6463 is image #3, 6464 is image #4 at the top of this post.
recalled weber plastic handle metal wire grill brushes sold between 2013 and 2021:
Model Number: 6493
Brush Description: 21 inch black plastic handle with black ring stamped with Weber grill logo and metal binder with Weber grill logo
Distribution Dates: 2013-2021
and the close-ups of the grill logos here:
Model Number: 6494
Brush Description: 12 inch black plastic handle with black ring stamped with Weber grill logo
Distribution Dates: 2013-2021
the 6494/shorter brush only shares the first close-up, because it is too short to have a metal binder in the style of the 6493/longer brush despite being the same style of grill brush. 6493 is image #5, 6494 is image #6 at the top of this post.
Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled grill brushes and contact Weber for a cold cleaning nylon bristle grill brush replacement. Consumers will be asked to discard the recalled grill brushes.
STOP using these. and possibly all metal wire grill brushes. weber is offering replacement nylon bristle grill brushes. in kind of a dick move/possible mistake, weber's contact information and how to get a replacement grill brush are not actually listed in this recall announcement. so I (rune!!!) tracked it down, for a quick detour about how to get a free replacement nylon grill brush:
weber.com has its own recall notice page, which is linked at the top of the homepage in a bright red banner. always like to see that. the recall notice page then links to this website, weberbrushrecall.com, for the recall of the grill brushes. to register for the recall, you do the following process:
Does your grill brush have one of the Weber logos seen in the image above? [Yes/No]
Select the photo that matches you Weber grill brush and click Register. Please confirm you are selecting the correct brush size.
then it takes you to a registration page where you fill out your address and an email and/or phone number for weber to keep in contact throughout this process. it asks you if your grill brush was purchased online or in store from ace, amazon, best buy, home depot, lowe's, target, tractor supply, weber, or somewhere else. and then it asks whether your grill brush was purchased in the past 12 months, 1-2 years ago, or longer than 2 years ago. if you bought it in a store, it was probably purchased within the year ranges listed in this post and on the recall announcement. you then check a box saying you promise to destroy your grill brush after you send in a photo and receive email confirmation from weber that your recall photo was accepted and a replacement nylon grill brush is on the way.
you must not chuck your recalled grill brush before you send weber the wiry felon's mugshot, if you want to receive the free replacement grill brush.
alright, back to the recall announcement! going to do this next bit out of order for reasons you will see in a second.
Sold At: The recalled grill brushes were sold online and in stores at Lowe's, Home Depot, Ace Hardware, and Target, and online at Amazon and Weber.com from 2011 through 2026 for between $10 and $17. The products have also been found on resale sites, such as eBay.com.
...and again, as was revealed during the incidentally explored registration process for a refund for the purpose of summarizing it for this post: these brushes were also sold at tractor supply, best buy, and "other". why is this not listed in the recall announcement?
Incidents/Injuries: Weber is aware of at least 38 reports and reviews where small wire bristles detached from the grill brushes, including four reports of consumers who swallowed metal bristles and sought medical treatment to remove the bristles from their digestive tract or throat.
weber is aware of at least 38 reports and reviews of these wire bristles detaching, including 4 reports of injuries requiring surgery. this is interesting wording, that "at least" is doing a lot of heavy lifting here.
this danger is not unique to weber metal wire grill brushes. metal wire grill brushes from many different stores, websites, brands, manufacturers, importers etc have been named in unsafe product reports. wire bristles become lodged in food and then eventually in people's bodies, resulting in horrific injuries.
I (rune!!!!) went and checked saferproducts.gov for incident reports of metal bristles detaching from grill brushes. the list wound up being fairly graphic and also extremely long, so they are under the cut. so for most of you, this is where we part.
but for those of you ready to read about detailed injuries, including those from other dangerous models of metal wire grill brushes, here we fucking go. reminder: these are only successful, vetted reports that were submitted specifically to saferproducts.gov. they required a specific, detailed process to be accepted. these injuries are undoubtedly far more numerous than the number of reports.
and despite the MANY non-weber metal wire grill brushes named in these incident reports...none of the dangerous grill brushes described below have apparently been recalled, at least according to CPSC.gov, aside from the 6 weber grill brushes described above. weber's recalled metal wire grill brushes are not even the ones involved in the most numerous or gruesome injury reports summarized below the cut.
these summaries start out very brief and without many details, and then eventually I (rune!!!!!) started including more details about the injuries because...hey holy shit, I realized these details needed to be shared. at least once incident report was from food served at a restaurant. I am now of the opinion that metal wire grill brushes should either be banned or have far stricter safety regulations, everywhere in the world. these injuries get fucking nasty and I regret not including more comprehensive details earlier for all of them. sorry this is all over the place, these injury reports wound up hitting me hard. so I hope these summaries help protect at least one person who reads them. fffuuuuuuuuck

...holy shitload of incident reports, batman. this post actually had to be written twice because the character limit for a block of text was exceeded, and then it failed to save on the mobile app, and deleted hours of text. but hopefully this helps raise some awareness about how fucking dangerous metal wire grill brushes are. just one single metal wire bristle in your food can possibly bankrupt you, uproot your life, disable you for life, and maybe even end your life.
please consider using anything other than a metal wire grill brush to clean your grill. your life, health, and happiness are worth so much more than all of this.
for more information about this recall, check the CSPC recall announcement.
thanks for reading (especially if you read all the incident report summaries, holy shit!!!), stay safe, and take care!
Okay guys, so on the eve of getting rid of our fucking authoritarian leader, I will tell you how we did it, despite the governments overwhelming media presence and fucking undercover operations against the opposition.
It was actually said best by a Hungarian comic, I'm paraphrasing a bit: If your house is on fire, you can't be like 'well that's not the fireman I imagined'.
I know it's been said a thousand times before, I know everybody is raging against having to vote for a less than ideal candidate, but today has proven that it fucking works. It's the only thing that works. And if the new guy is just a step closer to what you want? That's a fucking win. That's a fucking step in the right direction.
also i would like to say that as a business student, your beef isn't with STEM. it's with the modern businessman. i'm at business school because i want to be be an accountant and help people do their taxes and balance budgets primarily, but like a solid 40% of the mandatory classes for even that are entrepreneurial bullshit. the approach to ethics is a joke. accountability is a joke. profit is prioritized above all else, and literal sweatshops are praised as 'efficient' and having "good employee/employer relations." do NOT get me started on the lip service paid to corporate social responsibility. these fuckin classes are like, if you organize a day to clean up the park youre an ethical business. dont look at everything youve done to the environment or how you've destabilized the local economy. we picked up some trash. its fine. in fact, that's above and beyond what we needed to do.
technology and progress are not your enemy. ideally, we SHOULD automate all the work we can, and then everyone would have to do less work. the issue is that for SOME reason, everyone has just accepted "you need to work to prove you deserve to live" as a basic premise, and thus "we need to create pointless jobs or people will die" is somehow considered a reasonable position. not working does not inherently lead to death. there's an intermediate step there, which is "the people who control the resources refuse to share them, because you need to earn that." this is not a natural consequence, it's enforced.
i have always hated the idea that any sort of knowledge or technology is inherently bad. we can't un-know something, nor should we try. more knowledge can only lead to more specific and accurate solutions. the problems arise when we decide human life is less valuable than profit.
Hey, if you're a fic writer and a character speaks in a different language, you don't just have to add the translation in the notes. Use the following HTML coding to add 'text on hover' to the word(s). If the reader is on a computer they can hover over the text to see the translation.
<span title="This is the text in the box!">This is the text that shows in your fic!<;/span>
Here are some examples from a fic on my AO3.
This coding here <span title="a fool, idiot (lit. emptyhead)">Eyn utreekov</span> will show this on hover.
This next example shows that you can add a lot of text. The formatting is the same as above.
PS: When doing this, there may be spacing issues, but you can edit the text through AO3's html or rich text editor. From there you can add italics (like I did), bold, etc, and fix any weird spacing issues. Just be careful not to delete the coding that you worked so hard on đ
âOne night, in the year 1713 I dreamed I had made a pact with the devil for my soul. Everything went as I wished : my new servant anticipated my every desire. Among other things, I gave him my violin to see if he could play. How great was my astonishment on hearing a sonata so wonderful and so beautiful, played with such great art and intelligence, as I had never even conceived in my boldest flights of fantasy. I felt enraptured, transported, enchanted : my breath failed me, and - I awoke. I immediately grasped my violin in order to retain, in part at least, the impression of my dream. In vain ! The music which I at this time composed is indeed the best that I ever wrote, and I still call it the âDevilâs Trillâ, but the difference between it and that which so moved me is so great that I would have destroyed my instrument and have said farewell to music forever if it had been possible for me to live without the enjoyment it affords me.â - Giuseppe Tartini, Lalandeâs Voyage d'un François en Italie (circa 1765)
Here is an article from NPR about it (May 22, 2026):
Carolina Milanesi, an independent technology analyst, said Google is trying to make its cash cow business â search â richer and more personalized, and it will make shopping easier. But there is a risk that users may have fewer choices about what to click.
"Right now it's: I ask a question, I get a bunch of answers and I feel that I'm in control as to which answer I take, or if I'm looking for something, which product I'm going to end up buying. That is going to be less so going forward," she said.
Milanesi envisions AI-enabled search and agents proposing products to consumers â perhaps even those they have requested â but with less clarity or choice around where it's coming from.
"If you're going to say: 'I want a pair of Jordans, go find them,' you're not necessarily sure what steps have been taken and whether the AI has used a source or a store that was paid for and therefore came up in the search results," she said, "or if AI actually went and did their due diligence and picked the best for me as a customer."
And here's one from Time magazine (May 20, 2026):
While Google already has âAI Mode,â the company will now power the whole search bar through its new Gemini 3.5 Flash model.Â
Instead of the classic list of blue links, Google Search will now also generate a custom page with an AI-generated summary of what youâre searching about, which will then trigger a conversation with AI Mode on the main page, allowing users to ask follow-up questionsâsimilar to the kind of layout you would see when opening ChatGPT.
And a little more from Time's article on how this may affect the websites that we are trying to search for:
When Google first started implementing AI-assisted results, news publishers warned of âcatastrophicâ impacts on the industry, much of which relies on Google search to drive users to their websites.Â
Last year, news websites saw significant traffic declines as chatbots increasingly replaced Google search as the primary way to find sites and ask questions.Â
Small businesses also noted drops in traffic to their sites from Google, which has traditionally delivered customers. Â
Lily Ray, vice president of SEO strategy & research at Amsive, a digital marketing agency, warned as early as last year that Googleâs planned changes to search are âgoing to have a devastating impact on the Internet.âÂ
âIt will severely cut into the main source of revenue for most publishers and it will disincentivize content creators who rely on organic search traffic, which is millions of websites, maybe more,â she told Technology Magazine. Â
