re L and morality i do think he actually has a very very stringent view of right and wrong he's just also not too caught up on actually adhering to that. so compared to light he's not nearly as vulnerable to rationalizing - his morality is quite black and white and fixed, he just isn't attached to an image of himself as a Good Person. contrast this with light whose image of himself has primacy over his sense of right and wrong, such that his sense of what is good or bad is flexible depending on what his assessment says about himself as a person

this becomes really prominent after soichiro's death where he starts letting go a bit of his sense that he's a good person and cynically tells matsuda that good and evil are just narratives. I think L would wholly disagree with this — he has a very clear stable sense of what good and evil are but he's comfortable with the idea of sometimes doing evil things. I think a lot of people read L as amoral bc of this but I don't think that's strictly true — he's more of a stick in the mud than light is philosophically its just not a big deal to him when it comes to his own actions
