YOU'RE GONE, BOY | Kim Juhoon x Reader
Trope: elite four! Juhoon x trainer! Reader.
IN WHICH: Drake stepped down from being the Hoenn region's elite four, to focus on his home, the sea. Actor Kim Juhoon, known for his powerful water/psychic team. He has a record where not many have beaten him, with the hundreds to thousands of battles under his belt at the age of 18, he was unstoppable. But that streak isn't gonna last.
CONTAINS: Angst, cussing, fluff (ish?)
NOTE: Not related to the CATCH, CREATE, EXPLORE series.
The Pokémon league was a place of dream, power, and future. Yet what people didn't know, it could, and was also hell. Dreams could be easily shattered with one wrong move, one wrong reaction. Everything someone could dream of could be crushed, even if an attempt wasn't made yet. People have cried more than beamed exiting the league doors.
The elite four, and champion was nothing to be happy to be in. Each Pokémon that went down felt like a bullet to the heart. The elite four were practically unbeatable. It was hard to beat their experience, that's why they were even chosen there. If someone was able to finish off the four, they still had the champion to deal with. Without healing.
You knew that. Yet you went in. You beat Sidney, Glacia, and Phoebe already. Quite the difficulty, but nonetheless bearable. Honestly, you struggled more with the Mossdeep twins rather than them. Thankfully, you had a lot of healing items on hand so you were able to somewhat heal your party. With a gulp, you entered the room which contained the last member of the Elite Four. Kim Juhoon.
You've heard he was, and still is an actor– and also one of the unbeatable trainers in Hoenn similar to the status champion Steven Stone has, and even coordinator star Wallace Hikaru.
But you had no time to think of the moments you had twenty minutes ago. Right now, you were in the middle of a battle. Final two Pokémon deployed on the field, one had a disadvantage, one didn't. The one with the disadvantage? You.
“Milotic, scale shot!” Juhoon's voice echoed through the league room, as the beautiful serpent obeyed without even wasting a single second, body charging up and slamming out scales to hit the opposing Mightyena. The dark type howled in pain, baring its fangs as it took the hit.
“Mightyena, thunder fang!” you ordered sharply, sweat dropping down your forehead as the wolf-like Pokémon’s legs moved on auto pilot, chasing the serpent down as electricity emitted from its fangs.
“Milotic, Dragon Pulse!” Juhoon retaliated instantly, before the opposing move could even be hit.
“Mightyena, counter with Foul Play!” you cut in sharply, as the purple pulse of draconic power clashed with the more ominous purple if the dark type move, exploding to the dust where the moves met.
“End it now, go!” you held your arm out, palm open as your Pokémon darted with its fangs open, biting down on Milotic’s midsection, as a spark of thunder emitted, shocking it fully, resulting in the Milotic fainting. You had the Pokémon with the least health, yet you won. That critical hit saved the hell outta you.
Juhoon stared in disbelief, a lump forming in his throat as he stared at his fainted Pokémon. You, on the other hand screamed in happiness, hugging the large wolf Pokémon tight, bouncing with energy, as Mightyena let cries of happiness, wagging its tail.
“Thank you, Milotic.” his voice was calmer, taking his luxury ball out to return his beloved Pokémon for a rest.
“You did extremely well, [Reader] was it?” you paused at his words, as you and your worn out Pokémon looked up at him, closely this time.
No wonder why he was an actor. He had soft features, and a gaze that could rival anyone else's. He has that calm vibe to him, which made both you and Mightyena relax.
“Thank you, Juhoon.” you said with politeness, bowing slightly. A habit really.
“Do be warned, Champion Steven is more challenging than he's made to be seen. Even his Armaldo can be difficult to test.” Juhoon stood straight, hands behind his back in warning. He was the first to give you something akin to advice.
“Know so.” Juhoon nodded, “now. I wish you good luck against the Steel type master. May Arceus be on your side.” he smiled, as the doors behind him opened automatically.
You grinned, giving him a thumbs up. “Thanks.”
You walked through the doors, expecting another difficult battle. Your fight with Sidney in under 20 minutes, Glacia & Phoebe under 30, but Juhoon's? It took like an hour and a half. You half expected to just die the moment your first Pokémon were out. So in the champion chamber hall, flickering yellow lights glow from the sides of the hallway, you healed your party up and challenged the champion, expecting fully to go back home.
But no. Arceus really was on your side. Your Pokémon knew this was the final test to reach the top, to achieve the dreams you'd tell your parents about. Being a champion, being up there amongst the big leagues.
Every single move, wasn't just of brute force. Everything was calculated, the Pokémon, and yours’ sweat came from the heart. Steven saw the passion in your eyes, the eyes that lights up every time you hit a move, or knocked his Pokémon out. The stars were in your reach, anything else was such a blur. The thrill of the battle, the excitement for victory had you high on joy.
The blue haired champion couldn't help but smirk, his eyes trailing to the hidden observation window by the side of the champion chamber.
“Looks like the ones you've beaten are cheering for you.” Steven mused out of nowhere after your Leafeon knocked out his Aggron. Your eyes filled with hope, seeing that people actually seemed to be cheering you on.
You couldn't help but remember, that's how your parents cheered you on. Waving their hands, voices loud. Before everything changed, when Team Aqua..
“Seems so!” you grinned, while Steven sent his final Pokémon out. You had the advantage currently. Three Pokémon still under your belt, when Steven only had his ace.
“Cmon' Leafeon, let's do this.” you cheered out, as the grass type Eeveeloution yipped in response, getting ready for the next command.
“Go, Shadow ball!” you yelled out, as the opposing Metagross readied to dodge.
You were so filled with hope, you had a chance to actually win the league. Each command, each yell and each hit was like a shot to the heart. Metagross did eventually take your Leafeon out with a few usages of Psychic. But honestly, you just smirked. Now, now you could actually have a chance to bring out the big guns.
“Go, Ceruledge!” you threw your ultra ball out to the field, as the ghostly Pokémon took a stance, “we're winning this, for them.” you muttered under your breath, as the battle commenced once more.
The battle went on for twenty more minutes. Your Ceruledge was still up and fighting, but so was Steven's Metagross that had mega evolved already. One last clash, and your eyes flashed in front your eyes. You were dazed, standing there.
Everything went like a blur, your head rang as you closed your eyes trying to regain bearings. Then you realised.. you beat him. You beat Steven. You wanted to cry so much, so so much. Yet, you physically couldn't. As if you were stuck somewhere else. That's when you saw them. You looked ahead, seeing the people you haven't seen since you were twelve.
“Mama! Papa! Look! I'm a champion!” you exclaimed at your parents, grinning widely as you had a cute ribbon on your shirts, puffing your chest out. You felt so happy, and ran towards them with bursting joy. Your eyes connected with the pairs of two eyes.
“Oh our sweet baby.” your mother hummed, smiling softly and slowly reached a hand to your shoulder. “You've worked so hard.”
She finally hugged you, yet you didn't feel warmth. You felt cold.
“Yes, you are a champion. Congratulations.” your eyes went hazy again a second, as you blinked.
That wasn't your parents. That was just Steven congratulating you. Everything was in your head. You just stood there for the past few minutes, day dreaming about your parents reaching you, seeing you stand against the strongest of Hoenn.
“Thank you.” you whispered, as your Ceruledge hovered behind you, letting out a cry of joy.
You looked up, not at Steven, not at Ceruledge. But at the ceiling, the dome like glass roof that had the sun out. A tear fell. Then more. Now you could cry.
Steven, seeing your dilemma smiled softly. “It’s not a lot people get to this spot.”
“I know. It's just..” you trailed off, unable to even get the words out. “Yeah. I'm honoured.”
You didn't tell them the truth, you didn't want to. You were used to dealing with things alone, and finding comfort within the trees and nature instead.
You found yourself standing in Petelburg woods, deep in the forest with your Decidueye. The ghostly owl let a hoot in sympathy, sensing the piece missing from you. You really just missed your parents.
The fact you won the championship, the literal Hoenn league was thrilling. Your Rotom phone pinged multiple times, having texts from your friends. May, Brendan, even Wally was texting congratulatory messages.
But you didn't care. You muted your phone, and leaned on a birch tree, before letting the tears fully flow. The champion ribbon felt meaningless, as the people you promised to reach the top to were gone. You sobbed for hours, that Decidueye grew tired too and just draped itself over your lap. The big bird napped there, providing comfort that could never reach your heart.
You woke up somewhere you weren't familiar with at all. You were in a room, trophies displayed on the shelves, a clean space.. and posters of Ryuki, an Alolan rockstar neatly taped by the desk shoved in the corner. You felt confused, and where the hell was your Pokémon belt? Panicked filled you as you hastily made it off the comfortable bed.
That's gotta be kidnapping. That's just gotta be. You ran down the hallways, down the stairs of the large home. You saw two people, middle aged people. Instinct came over before kindness.
“Where are my Pokémon?!” you yelled out, absolutely concerned and worried for the well being of your Pokémon. You could do everything except, fail them.
“Calm down–” the older man tried to say, desperately trying to calm you down.
“I'm not calming down, first I wake up in some random house and my Pokémon aren't with me?! I'm not calming down till I have my Pokémon back!” you gestured, shaking your head as you grit your teeth.
“Bso’!” a familiar cry came out from the kitchen, peaking over. The disaster Pokémon had probably heard the discourse happening in the living room.
“Absol..!” you ran over instantly, steps heavy with purpose as you ungracefully dropped down to your knees, checking Absol’s fur for any injuries. “You're okay.. oh thank Arceus.”
“Your Pokémon are being fed. Don't worry yourself.” a voice spoke up from in front of you. Looking up, it was Juhoon. The Juhoon you beat in the league.
“Juhoon?” you blinked, standing up properly. “Wait.. this is your house?”
“Mhm, come. Let's talk.” he motioned, nodding his head over turning his heel around and walked to the kitchen. You caught a glimpse of your own Pokémon, playing with Juhoon's as if it was meant to be. As if they've known eachother since foreger. You followed suit as you left the home through a backdoor, with Juhoon frowning.
“Espeon sensed something up with you when you won.” Juhoon started his explanation, as the two walked through the streets of Rustboro city.
You remembered it now. The delusion your parents still stood by you, cheering you own. “Yeah, uh. I just miss my parents.”
“You don't need to tell me everything instantly.” Juhoon shrugged, eyeing your reaction. He saw sadness, and slight anger.
“I feel like I challenged the league for nothing.” now that's what shocked him. For years, people wanted to be the best, and discard everyone they've met once they've achieved it. But for someone as strong to look back at the past? It was shocking.
“But.. you're one of the strongest of Hoenn. That has to make up for something?”
“I only did this because I knew I'd have them by my side.” you sighed, the walk around suddenly feeling slow. Your feet brought you to wherever Juhoon stepped. “But now.. they're far out my reach.”
Juhoon didn't even dare ask. He stayed silent in understanding with a small sympathetic frown. He couldn't relate, he had a loving relationship with his parents so he decided to opt for silent comfort. You liked that, a lot.
The walk around the peaceful city was calm, before someone bolted out the Devon Corp. “Juhoon! Oh and [Reader] too! Great!” Steven stepped out, face full of alarm and panic.
“Champion Steven?” Juhoon asked confusedly, tilting his head as he looked up at the blue haired champion.
“Team Aqua has plans fully submerging Sootopolis into nothing.” Steven explained quicky, and sent his Skarmory out.
“Me, Wallace and Gym Leader Juan nees help. May you both assist us? We need all the help we have.” Steven urgently added on, speaking of how much the depth of the situation could affect Hoenn as a whole.
“I can get my group to help. They're strong battlers too, especially James.” Juhoon cut in, already taking his Rotom phone out.
“Mhm, and I can get my friends to help too, and tell the other gym leaders about the situation so they can assist too.” you offered as well, raising your hand.
“That would be highly appreciated. Once you're done, fly on to Sootopolis asap.” Steven hopped on his Skarmory, and flew on our to the air above.
Both you and Juhoon, panicked had typed onto your Rotom Phones, as you cursed out.
“Shit, my Pokémon are still at your house. Go on without me, I'll just go back.” you grumbled, as Juhoon nodded, sending his Noivern out to fly off to the destination where the help was needed.
You ran back to Juhoon's home as quick as possible, breath hitching as you opened the backdoor with force. “Cmon', everyone out!” you yelled to your Pokémon, as each and every one of them filed out. Ceruledge had to drag the slow Cradily out too.
Leafeon jumped up a table to grab your Pokémon belt, holding it with its mouth and darted off too.
“Atta boy Leafeon, now everyone except Decidueye, return!” you praised quickly, taking the belt and shuffling it on, taking the empty Pokéballs out, go return your party.
“Decidueye, Sootopolis, fast.” you scrambled on the large owl, as it let a hoot in response. You got on the back of the feathered Pokémon as it flapped its wings, soaring through the blue sky.
You couldn't stop thinking about it. Was Team Aqua actually going to do something that serious? Does Archie even have the balls to command such an order? You loved Hoenn– yet it could be taken away, just like how he took your parents away.
You were determined to help.
Arriving at the city, it was half submerged. The members of CORTIS, usually seen bursting out with energy, and singing was now trying not to cry, and helping citizens; whom were shaking, crying, wailing. The children screamed about their favourite spot getting destroyed by the once peaceful water, the elderly weeped over the homes their families have had over centuries get destroyed, the adults’ hearts shattered over their home city engulfed in what they were taught to be gentle was harsh.
Steven, and Wallace could be seen quarrelling with admins—gym leaders panicking and battling an endless wave of grunts on unstable grounds as everything slowly rises up slowly, defying gravity. Droplets of rain pelted down on everyone, drenching them in the cool water as the wind picked up. Mini tsunamis spawned out of nowhere. Your eyes scanned the area, looking around you saw the main issue.
Kyogre was being controlled. Properly this time.
Archie held the blue orb like a weapon, currently it honestly was. That was the same look on his face when he first met your parents.
The look of pure cruelty.
“Decidueye, go!” you yelled through the thunder and rain, as the bird nodded, flying close to the rising water as its wings emitted a green, cutting through Kyogre’s torso. The legendary wailed a cry out, as Archie shot his head up in alarm.
“Oh if it isn't [Reader]! Congrats on the champion title, matey!” the pirate wannabe hollered, as he sent his Sharpedo out wordlessly.
“Look, why don't you run away, so you won't be under the water like the city yeah?” he grinned sharply, all teeth, chain necklace dangling in effect of the high speed winds.
“You're gonna destroy Hoenn! What the hell is the thought process here?!” you barked out, as Kyogre and Sharpedo shit out Hydro Pumps towards the both of you. The yells of the conversation were drowned out by each pelt of the stormy weather.
Your Decidueye was highly trained, gliding through each attempt of getting hit, and twirling in the air to shake off water that weighed heavy on its perfect feathers.
“Everything, must return to water!” Archie cried out, “do it!”
“Wait.. do what?” you furrowed your eyebrows, as your breath hitched. It was charging up for Origin Pulse. Your head snapped and turned to make sure you were safe to do something drastic. You were positioned high up from everyone else on the higher cliffs of Sootopolis—the water below you violently crashed within land that somehow wasn't dipped in its terror.
“Decidueye, return!” you quickly yelled out, hands flying to grab your Pokémon’s pokéball. A risky move, yet the only option. There was no way your Pokémon was out flying that.
Decidueye squaked in fearful confusion, as the red beam indicated he was returned. Your body dropped into the water, the violent waves sending you flying everywhere, your hands didn't bother trying to swim. Thrashed around the angry waves, air bubbles exited your mouth in sheer force.
Your eyes closed shut, mouth closed as your hands fiddled with your Pokémon belt. Once getting it, you tried getting your head up the water. It was a battle of life and death, your legs flailing helplessly as your body slammed against rocks from below, you couldn't even let a cry of pain out; scared of the water filling your system.
Your mind was engulfed with worry for your Pokémon as you desperately tried to kick yourself up, yet the water was too chaotic for you to properly rise. Your body felt heavy, lungs on the brink of collapsing as bubbles emitted from your mouth, when you attempted to scream.
Once you poked your head out the water, you let the waves push you up, bouncing as you threw your belt hard to land that wasn't hit by the waves yet. You desperately tried to replenish the oxygen you lost, lungs working overtime.
The belt hit the back of Martin's knee. The energy box of Juhoon's group. He looked down in confusion, before his breath hitched. His eyes spotted you, trying to reach for a rock for stability, but was engulfed by the torrential waves.
“Yo, yo! [Reader]’s in the water!!” the tall man called out to the others.
Juhoon immediately shoved a random kid in Keonho's arms, and sent his Milotic out. His already sent out Pokémons, Blastoise and Greninja seemed to understand what he was doing.
The two aquatic Pokémon helped carry the citizens around, as Juhoon got on the scaled Pokémon, holding tight as they both dipped in. Sure, it should've been Keonho who dipped in; but he was more occupied with the citizens.
“[Reader]!” he desperately called out, even under the water– where it was muffled; as the water engulfed you completely.
You couldn't think of anything, the water was peaceful honestly. The sounds of chaos were silenced, your mind was a daze again.
Before you could fully faint, an air bubble suddenly engulfed you. Oxygen slowly filled your lungs again, as you breathed in-and-out heavily.
You looked around the water, confused on who saved you. Your eyes were greeted by a Primarina, looking sorry for you.
“I'm sorry, my dear.” your eyes shot behind the Primarina, revealing your mother, wearing a helmet for oxygen, yet you could hear her still.
“You fucking bastard!” you hissed out, tears engulfing your eyes in pure unbridled anger. That wasn't your mother. “Don't call me dear, you psycho!” staggering toward, blood gushed through your sides, teeth grit.
“Was leaving me alone to join this fuckass wannabe pirates worth it?!” your voice raised, cracking ever so slightly.
“I didn't want to. Your father blackmaileblackmailed me into it.”
You grew quiet, confused. Still angry. “Explain.”
“When we were young, we struggled a lot financially. Your father wasn't the smartest man on the block.” your mother shakily said, gripping on Primarina tighter, as she motioned for the water Pokémon to move. The bubble was moving, due to Primarina pushing it.
“But he was offered a job as an admin by Archie. It paid heavy. He took the job, and forced me to join too. He said he'd kill you.” she confessed, frowning. “I couldn't let that. I can fail everything, just not you and my Pokémon.”
You went quiet, sucking her words in with a heavy heart. Your body went heavy as your heart felt like it was imploding. “You didn't tell me..” was all you could say.
“How could I? You're my child, [Reader.]” she muttered in response, looking down at Primarina’s beautiful skin.
“Yes, I'm your child. You could've told me.” you fought back, voice strained. “I missed you.”
“I missed you more, sweetheart.” your mother echoed in return, trying to act the brave front.
You both reached shore somewhere safer, away from the chaos. “I know you'd want to help, but you need to breathe first."
“.. yeah,” was all you said in response, coughing any water you've swallowed out as you desperately trying to regain bearings. You almost just died, you couldn't even cry. You were more focused on trying to stop your heart from exploding from pressure.
“[Reader]!” a voice suddenly hailed from the far distance, surrounded by the calmer waves.
narrowing your eyes, you genuinely “.. Juhoon?” once more you coughed, flabbergasted.
“Martin saw you just get swept away, then I see someone taking you, obviously I came after!” his Milotic swam up, as the two made it on the land form you and your mother stood upon.
You felt touched he came after you, as a smile unconsciously graced your lips. “Thank you.”
“Of course.” he'd say, nodding.
“Are my Pokémon safe and okay?” you worriedly asked Juhoon, looking up at him.
“Yeah, Martin got your belt.” Juhoon smiled in reassurance, taking two pokéballs out his own belt.
“You can't go back without Pokémon.” he spoke out, taking your hands and putting the pokéballs on them.
“Which Pokémon are these?” you asked with intrigue, as your mother silently observed.
“Espeon, and Noivern.” he answered.
“Oh, I see.” you murmured, extending your arms out, sending the two borrowed mons out.
The large dragon Pokémon, and the small psychic Eeveeloution spawned out their holding, peering over you.
“Espeon, Noivern. I'm handing you both to the hands of [Reader] here.” Juhoon stepped forward, putting a hand on your shoulder.
You felt your cheeks flush temporarily, but you couldn't let feelings get over you right now. Hoenn was at stake.
“[Reader], I trust you.” Juhoon vowed, turning his back gracefully to ride his Milotic once more, to return to the battle field of a place.
You turned to your mother swiftly, who just nodded seriously; sensing a hidden command. “I'l try distracting the other grunts with other tasks. After all I'm a higher up.”
“Thank you, mother.” you murmured, grabbing the Espeon carefully, who mewed in response as Noivern lowered itself down to the ground. You got on the large dragon, patting on it's back as its wings flapped up, ascending to the air.
The flight over was fast, and smooth; the closer you got to the scene– the heavier the rain dropped, and the stronger the waves crashed. Everyone seemed to be evacuated, so that was a worry off your chest.
“Noivern, use..” you paused, you actually had no idea what Noivern’s move set was, and your Rotom phone was already destroyed due to your model not being waterproof.
“Okay, nevermind. Espeon, use Psyvem!” you swapped tactics, commanding Epseon instead. You were more familiar with psychic types more than dragon types. You pointed at a group of grunts that Juhoon was currently battling, as it nodded.
Espeon cried out, obeying your command as a psybeam clashed with the opposing Pokémon.
The grunts yelped, looking up at you, looking over them on Juhoon's Noivern, holding Espeon so gently. Yet your eyes explained a different story.
“Now, Gardevior!” Juhoon took the chance, barking his own order out. He usually wasn't harsh, he was known for his gentleness but he could be loud if he wanted.
The embrace Pokémon motioned with its hands into a circle, charging up, and unleashing a deadly pinkish beam. Oh how Moonblast was terrifying.
“Martin, get [Reader]’s pokébelt here!” Juhoon called out, as the spiky haired group leader perked up.
“Go buddy!” Martin handed your pokébelt to his partner Jolteon, who took it in its mouth and zipped off, dropping the belt at your feet, and quickly using extreme speed to return to Martin's side and fight more grunts.
“Where's Steven?” you asked Juhoon, eyes furrowed as you picked your pokébelt out, sending Absol out.
“No clue.” Juhoon shook his head, sighing as he scanned the disastrous surroundings. “He could be down with Wallace at Origin Cave."
“Huh? But.. it's already under the water.” you blinked, looking over at the city, once co existing with the waves, now drowned. A sad sight, really.
“Yeah, I know. But with Wallace's water expertise, and Steven being rich, they probably dived down with fancy suits.” Juhoon flicked his finger in explanation.
“I saw Archie earlier.” you cut in, suddenly telling the story of how you even got in the water. “He has the blue orb.”
Juhoon cursed, running a hand through his hair in frustration. His usual soft features were scrunched with stress, eyes narrowed.
“He's cocky. Too cocky.” you emphasised on the part he was too cocky. Juhoon seemed to get your idea.
But what the two didn't seem to notice, was that [Reader] was still bleeding. And sooner or later?
