Get rid of your fucking Ring cameras holy shit. That was one of the most chilling ads I’ve ever seen
😰😰😰😰😰
For anyone confused about why this "sweet ad" is actually evil:
ring is passing the surveillance they collect to ice
ring is using these ID features to search for/identify people that ice wants to deport/kidnap/disappear, & using it to spy on Americans in general.
This ad is the company's gross & sneaky attempt to appeal to humans' kindness [ I'll be helping people find their pets!" ]
They are trying to trick more people into buying this tool that will be used as surveillance on people living in the USA
AND~!!!
also probably trying to trick people into turning on features/settings that will make it easier for them to pass information to ice and other hostile governmental authorities
about to go see the new markiplier movie
LA gangs got him
My least favorite things about anti- UBI discourse is always the techbros whining that "nobody is going to work anymore! People will just watch Netflix all day!" and I have 2 responses:
1) Who the fuck cares. Who the fuck cares what people do with their time! That's kind of the fucking point!
2) People aren't going to stop laboring. Housework (look, it's right there in the word!) will still need to be done. So will maintenance on our homes and personal spaces. Children will still need carers, as will the elderly and disabled. There are millions of examples of ~work~ that we do all the time, uncompensated, that won't suddenly stop because we aren't forced to sell our labor to provide corporation's profits.
I'm not surprised that what is traditionally women's work is invisible to these dipshits, but it never fails to anger me.
Anyway. Join the IWW.
Field studies have been conducted in several countries now, and the result is always the same - people will just flop about for a couple of months to recover from the burnout most people who have a job live with, and then they look for something to do. Some get a job with reduced hours, and some start doing charitable stuff like volunteering in soup kitchens and teaching others to do whatever their particular skill is. They socialize more, they are happier, and on average, people will work more, not less.
But the thing is, employers suddenly have to think about how to make their jobs appealing enough for someone to come and do them! It's hard to find someone to work for you for long hours under horrible conditions, if they can just choose not to; which shows you how voluntary our current system actually is.
🎶People won't stop working! If so, fuck it!🎵
1. I once called a helpline close to Christmas and at the end of the call was told "call back any time you need to, even on Christmas day." When I said that I didn't want to make anyone work on Christmas, I was reminded that the helpline was purely voluntary and there would 100% be people volunteering their unpaid time on Christmas day.
2. While employed I did next to nothing on my off hours and occasionally came home too exhausted or upset to even work on any of my hobbies.
I am now in university with an assignment deadline that was due over the winter break, which I initially thought was unfair and effectively left me with only two weeks of me time which I thought would not be enough to actually get some rest.
One week into said fortnight and I'm bored out of my mind, making plans almost every day because just sitting at home playing video games or drawing isn't enough for me anymore, I have to go out and get things done.
Even I, a disabled guy who historically has become burned out in every part-time job I've had and am still uncertain if I'd ever survive a full time job, am willing to get out there and work when I have nothing to do and enough money to live on (more or less).
Pilots of UBI have consistently shown that the only people who tend to work less when they have guaranteed basic income are a) students and b) new parents. Everyone else works more or less the same amount of hours as they usually would, because as others have said already, people like having things to do! People like working! What they do not like is having their work exploited, which is what UBI will allow them to avoid; if their boss treats them like shit, they can just leave. They can pick and choose what jobs they go into and how many hours they work at those jobs.
Employers will be obliged to court potential employees and offer benefits to tempt people in, rather than workers having to crawl on their bellies and beg for whatever scraps we can get just to avoid starvation and homelessness and cling, white-knuckled, onto any job we can get, no matter how shitty it is. So naturally they hate it and don't want us to have it, lmao. They want us over a barrel, and every time you argue against UBI, you're doing their work for them. 💜
this is, as the kids say, frying me (a glasses wearer)
Additional update to this
Can't decide whether it's funnier to say "my hungry ass could never work at a" and then say something that implies you're eating something truly grotesque or something that just, makes no sense
"my hungry ass could never be a brain surgeon" awful. 10/10
"my hungry ass could never be a truck driver" ????? 10/10
EATYIGNIN TIJOK;L'HE????
You're right, that would be shocking.
Let go of the idea that diy will inherently look shit. All your clothes are handmade you just don't see the people doing it.
One of the best additions that gets my point across better :)
There's a group that makes clothing with ink stained hands to show each time the fabric was touched with human hands to make the garment. The purpose of the piece is to bring attention to the hidden labor of sewists in the garment industry

the funny thing is. I originally typed out "fifth rule of fandom is everything goes back to gilgamesh & enkidu" but then I thought 'no, I can't trust that people will be familiar with the epic of gilgamesh'
I should have known. nerd ass website.

So if for some goddamn reason you still have tiktok? Maybe delete it
This shit is dystopian as fuck
Delete it as soon as you can do not fucking use the app at all
Yeah, so, "TikTok is officially under the control of a cadre of pro-Trump billionaires including Larry Ellison."

My husband’s job primarily employs adult men but there is one (1) teenage girl and my husband said originally he worried she might be a bit of an outcast but instead every man on the crew was like “huh guess I am a dad/older brother now.”
She was in a car crash on the way to work one morning and called my husband to let him know she’d be late and he was like wtf guess I’m gonna be late too because I’m coming to pick you up and then he told his team and they were like I think you mean WE are coming.
Imagine you are a teenage girl probably rushing to get to work and you crash your probably new car and feel absolutely miserable and now you’ll be late to work but then suddenly in the distance a car full of all the adult men you work with just pulls up and is like “we came all the way here to pick you up” the mental image right now is fr.
Apparently she tried to call her dad but it was 3am and he was obviously sleeping so she called my husband and he not only came to find her but fished her glasses out of the hood of the car (she’d dropped them while looking inside), drove her to the hospital, and told her to take the day off. She insisted on coming back to work so he used his lunch break to watch TV with her to make sure she didn’t doze off (concussion risk).
You’ve heard of the Mom friend but my husband is very much the Dad friend. He said when he answered the phone she said “hey please don’t be mad” and he’s never felt such powerful Fatherhood energy in his life.
Girl: *calls for aid*
Every single dad packed into the car:
This is possibly my favorite response to this post
This girls father: Thanks for helping my daughter out guys
Your husband and all his coworkers:

I came across the word "swaggereth" in a book from 1622 last night and felt like it should be shared with the world.
"Hee swaggereth, as though the whole Towne were his owne."

Except, critically, at bedtime.
Ravings and urges get miscoded over time. Let’s say you’re thirsty, and you live in a strawberry field. Strawberries contain some water and a bunch of sugar so, over time, you may start to crave strawberries when you are thirsty because you get a reward and some relief in shorter time from the need starting than the trek to the stream. This can happen for every need: sleep, food, whatever.
Trevor Noah has a great tip, that when he craves ice cream at night he breaks it down into parts: I want something cold, I want something sweet. He drinks a glass of cold water then waits to see if he still has the ice cream craving. Usually he doesn’t.
So listening to your body isn’t “follow every urge” but “decompose the urge to discover the underlying need.”
If you always feel like getting cozy in bed you may be: cold, dehydrated, and/or malnourished (maybe a need for high calories that are bioaccessible…not processed).
If you do not feel tired at bedtime you may: need to eat dinner earlier because your body is still digesting, need to exercise or go outside more during the day, get the fuck off your screen for an hour so your brain can enter sleep mode.
Hope this helps someone.
P.S. notice i said nothing about neurodivergence. Not that it’s not a likelihood but the over-pathologization of behaviors prevents us from taking simple actions to improve our wellbeing. Also, these tips are pretty accessible and applicable to most brain variations.
y'all need to relearn the word erratic and stop using schizophrenic/bipolar/psychotic as a replacement
y'all need to relearn the word particular and stop using ocd as a replacement
People need to relearn the word "egocentric" and stop using narcissist/narc as a replacement.
People need to relearn the word "impulse" and stop using "intrusive thought" as a replacement
People need to relearn the words "annoyed" & "insulted", even "extremely inconvenienced", and stop saying "triggered" as a replacement.
I really don’t know what crowd I expected to be in the theatre for carol at 1:20 in the afternoon on a friday but it was probably 85% old people, old het couples and halfway through the movie this old lady in front of me turned to the old dude next to her and just said “harold they’re lesbians”
Honoring 10 years of “harold they’re lesbians.” Many happy returns to all who celebrate.
The best piece of advice I ever got was not meant as advice, but as an edict. If I was going to threaten people as a joke, it had to be so far out of proportion with what happened that it would be obvious I was joking. This changed how I expressed frustration with others. It then changed how I expressed frustration with myself.
Not “I’m going to hit you” but “I am going to buy a tuna sub from the gas station and hide it under the seat of your car”
Not “I’m going to kill myself” but “I am going to walk into the desert and let the scarabs take me”
The other side then happened. When I mess something up, instead of saying it’s bad and perpetuating negative thoughts, swing hard the other way.
Not “this art is terrible” but “this shall be framed and mounted on the wall in my museum exhibition as testament to the suffering I had to overcome”
Have been doing this since high school. It was my drama teacher who asked me to please stop scaring the actors. The other half of the edict was that I had to say it in a polite tone, and end it with either please or thank you.
Life changing. 10/10 Mr Muëller. Highly reccomend.
