but wait it gets better
“Do you have any money”
“Y-yeah”
“Can I piss on you?”
reporter: i think the most controversial part that people were talking about - there’s a part of it where you’re talking about things trickling down and you have like rich people … peeing on poor people
ed asner: how disgusting. it should be reversed
What a funny way to say “cops blew up neighborhood”
It’s been really hilarious to watch the LAPD try to dodge any responsibility for this while the media tries desperately to help them by publishing the most confusing fucking headlines but what really happened is that the cops found and confiscated thousands of pounds of “illegal” fireworks in LA and then decided to take 10 pounds of that, call the press, and make a show of using their new expensive toy, the “total containment” truck that is supposed to be able to take explosions of up to 15 pounds.
So they took the 10 pounds of explosives and their toy truck to a poor Black neighborhood, got reporters there, stuck the explosives inside, and set them off intentionally instead of just defusing them like they did with the other 4,990 pounds of fireworks.
For some reason, likely because something went wrong with their truck which I bet cost the city a shit ton of money, the containment completely failed and the explosion destroyed cars, homes, and injured 17-19 people (I’ve seen different reports with different numbers), a couple of whom were in critical condition but it sounds like everyone survived.
The LAPD then had the audacity to tweet that they didn’t know what caused the explosion when it was them who caused the explosion, intentionally, and we know because they called the media so that everybody could see them do it.
In summary, the LAPD wanted to show off/justify their ridiculous budget but their expensive toy was a dud and so they ended up bombing a poor Black neighborhood (because they would never risk this in a white neighborhood) and don’t want to admit it.
is 10lbs of explosives a lot? I thought fireworks were relatively underpowered, that scene looks crazy
10bs of consumer grade fireworks isn’t a lot if you’re setting them off one by one. But if they were irresponsible enough to store them all close together while a few were igniting, the heat from the first few would be enough to immediately ignite several pounds of gunpowder all at once.

ONE OF THE SEXIEST CLIP ON THE INTERNET
Someone: What are you thinking about?
Me, internally: Whenever John puts a new magazine into the Kimber 1911 he does a press check to make sure it didn’t jam, because Kimbers are notorious for jamming on the first bullet of a magazine. He doesn’t do that with any of the other guns. Also, he flicks out the old magazine to make sure it’s not stuck – something that never happens in movies but often in reality. This is some brilliant film making an love to detail.
Me, out loud: Not much.
Wait a minute… you’re telling me that they made a movie with an accurate portrayal of guns? Is that… allowed?
just learned that magnolias are so old that they’re pollinated by beetles because they existed before bees
They existed *before beetles*
Why is this sad? Why am I sad?

Literally such a funny concept
today I learned that no one knows who really created Digimon and the person who’s credited with it may not be a real person
this is fucking me up bc “we thought humans created it in the 90s but we’re discovering that it maybe created itself” is both a textbook horror plot and the canon of the digital world in like every iteration of the franchise
Tracey Lee Cocco, a background actress for Star Trek: TNG. She never delivered dialogue, but someone counted, and she was in more Star Trek episodes than William Shatner was. Jonathan Frakes supposedly gave her character the name of “Lt. Jae” in an on the spot ad lib.
Whoever Lt. Jae was, she was clearly a well rounded crewman with a broad skill set. She was seen doing dozens of different jobs, from conn to technical work, and she clearly was extremely friendly with the otherwise aloof Picard and Riker.
Every word in this headline is funnier than the one before it.
a worthy rival
you mean to tell me i suffered through 2020 and no one thought to show me this???
a few weeks ago i was playing smash ultimate and my brother was like “you play with final smash on?” and i was like, yeah, my dude, i play the ridiculous cartoon character fighting game where byleth and captain olimar can brawl to the death in green hill zone and funnily enough i dont turn off the magic floating ball that lets them do the biggest silly bullshit. im playing this game in the kitchen
“you play with ITEMS???” like YES its literally the silliest game possible by design, if i wasnt supposed to play as isabelle and spend the entire time assembling a giant gun to blast bowser off the side of palutena’s temple it wouldn’t be a fucking option
why would you buy a game where you can make Donkey Kong beat Solid Snake to death with a flower on the back of a giant turtle and then…not do that
Accurate
One of the funniest things in the world to me is that comedy podcaster/video game journalist Justin Mcelroy will occasionally get emails intended for Crime/Politics Vancouver reporter Justin Mcelroy
an update
This post always makes me happy, because I have to follow Vancouver Reporter Justin McElroy’s work a lot for my job, and let me tell you, the man is a delight.
He wrote and sang a song about all the municipalities in BC while wearing his, frankly, obscene CBC shirt.
He’s now the CBC’s municipal reporter for the region, and he goes out of his way to actually visit the smallest, most backwater towns and talk about their charming local culture. He’ll livetweet city council meetings and toboggan races with exactly as much dry humor as both situations require.
Thank you for appreciating this local nerd. We’re lucky to have him.
